I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when Jourdan received his letter from the Colonel and was crafting his reply... Priceless!!!

Here's a link to the full text of Jourdan's letter to his former master in all of its articulate glory. I doubt the Colonel would have had the gall to carry on the correspondence after suffering such a just and thorough smackdown... BOO-YEAH!!!!

13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution
-The 13th Amendment to the Constitution declared that "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
Formally abolishing slavery in the United States, the 13th Amendment was passed by the Congress on January 31, 1865, and ratified by the states on December 6, 1865.

Lincoln didn't believe in coincidence either...as he was smoking his "pipe" maybe he came to the insight of cause and affect. Great quote

Hummmm. A very ignorant and sad time in the history of the USA. My only hope is we as a people stop all the inhumanity still going on today. :(

As a person who has ancestors who were scarred by the shackle and whip this letter was wonderful. People may be bowed but not broken. Nice post +^d

Did some make you sit through "The Help"....?
I think it's pretty safe to assume we could all agree the slaves got fucked over pretty bad even if the best of circumstances....
It is kinda interesting to hear a former slaves direct take on it...
