Colorado Republican faces questions after claiming immunity during a DUI stop

Colorado state Rep. Laura Bradford (R) was pulled over last week in Denver on the suspicion that she was driving under the influence. During the stop, she admitted to drinking and failed a field sobriety test, but cops claim they were unable to arrest her. Under an obscure state law, elected officials making their way between “legislative events” have immunity from prosecution.
Bradford told police when she was pulled over at 10:00 pm that she was leaving a legislative event and had to be back at the state capital in the morning, which was enough to trigger the law — a law of which Bradford now claims to have been unaware. Denver police, however, say that Bradford refused to waive her immunity under the law when asked, since it would have resulted in her being taken into custody for a breath or blood test.
She’s been suspended from her committee chair position and the House Speaker is looking into other punishments. Meanwhile, Senate Democrats are calling for the law to be amended.

Let's see - since when is an after work happy hour now considered a legislative 'event' that would qualify as serving the public for what she was elected to do? I'll have to remember that one! Sorry occiffer, I was just coming from a legislative event where I was required to throw back a bottle of vodka - now get out of my way, I've gotta be to work tomorrow! I'm guessing that won't fly with the Phoenix PD!

How many times do we have to point out that these Republicans are absolutely certain that the law does not apply to them. Now I expect a response from a Conservative pointing out that she was following an obscure law. The fact that she was driving drunk and is trying to get away with it will not make any difference to Republican supporters.

They *should* force her to resign, if she will not have the decency to do so on her own. Party affiliation has nothing to do with it. She was NOT even traveling from one legislative event to another. By her own words, she was headed home, and was expected at work - an actual legislative event, I suppose - the next morning. When did going "home" become a legislative event?
Not only that, are we to somehow be "ok" with elected officials getting drunk while they are doing the business "of the people?" Aren't legislative events *suppose* to be "business of the people?"
And she would not even name which "legislative event" she got plastered at.
She should resign. Period.

I thought they said there were reports of that, KB. I wasn't sure that was verified, is why I didn't comment on that, too. But if they know where she got drunk, and are certain, it gets even more insane. Then she is claiming anytime she goes to a bar and gets drunk, it's a legislative event, it seems.
