Arizona's vicious war on workers

Not content to let Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Ohio’s John Kasich get all the fame (and recall elections, and ballot referenda) for their attempts to curtail union workers’ rights, a new crop of GOP governors and state legislators have jumped into the fray and proposed their own anti-union bills in recent weeks.
Along with South Carolina’s Nikki Haley and Indiana’s Mitch Daniels, Arizona’s Jan Brewer, not content with making her state the least friendly to immigrants and people of color, has decided to get in on the union-busting action as well, introducing a bill that makes Walker’s and Kasich’s attacks on public workers look mild.
Brewer, the Republican left in charge of the state after President Obama tapped Janet Napolitano to be his secretary of Homeland Security, has been planning anti-union moves since last spring with the backing of the Goldwater Institute. (Named for Barry Goldwater, the think tank pushes for “freedom” and “prosperity” — as long as it’s not the freedom or prosperity of state workers.)

F$ck YEAH!!! We're one step close to being like FoxConn located in Communist China. Where people get sent to prison for 12 years if they try to unionize. -think about the irony of that for a moment.

For the life of me I cannot understand, outside of jealousy and envy, why ANY working class man or woman would be opposed to the bargaining strength that a union provides them, why they would rather place their fate in the hands of corporate heads who see then as little more than insects. Yet these some people who work for a living will go out and vote to put people in office who's sole purpose is to further stack the cards against them...It just baffles me.

Even China had laws giving workers right to join a union and bargain for rights. Not that it actually lets them, but at least they have left the appearance of unionism in place.

Jan Brewer Recall Possible As Arizona Collective Bargaining Has Democrats, Unions Planning Protests
"Many of the bills have been connected to the American Legislative Exchange Council, a conservative organization which has been providing model legislation to state legislatives nationwide. "We're fighting ALEC and the Goldwater Institute," Friend said of Arizona's battle. "The Goldwater Institute has filled the hearing room with Tea Party folks."
One idea receiving consideration is a recall campaign against Brewer similar to the one currently underway against Walker in Wisconsin. This is not the first time the idea of a Brewer recall has been floated. The group Citizens for a Better Arizona, which led the recall of former Senate President Russell Pearce (R) last year, also indicated a possible move to recall Brewer in November.
A recall against Brewer would be tough, with 432,000 signatures needed to get the measure on the ballot. Only one Arizona governor -- Republican Evan Mecham in 1988 -- has faced a recall. Mecham's recall was canceled after successful impeachment measures by the state legislature.
Friend said there are a variety of reasons a recall campaign could be launched."

This country needs immigrants, true the illegal immigrants hurt some of the legal immigrants coming here searching for the same jobs but the entire failed system leading so many illegals to come here illegally is our countries own stupid fault. We need to make it easier for legal immigration. Our problem is we see any immigrants at all as a problem! The only thing these laws in Arizona and Alabama are doing is legalizing racism. These people work some of the hardest shittiest job and never complain and this is how we repay them? Try doing landscaping as a job. I dare you. I did do it for about 3 months in the summer one time and it killed me.
If we don't believe in being a nation of immigrants with diverse backgrounds anymore then we need to file down the wording on the Statue of Liberty. We don't want to give the wrong impression with the whole 'give us your tired, sick, poor' etc. And if we don't believe in that anymore then we might as well get rid of everyone who isn't Amerindians.

This troglodyte was probably educated in Georgia and got her masters from the university of walk and don't walk. Her constituancy seems to have the same background. How else could she be ushered into a political office. I suspect that if someone researched her past they would find that her I.Q. matches the amount of teeth that she has in her head. That would be 32, or not one at all. These forms of life should be bannished from Society.

I agree....but never ever assume these people are stupid.....they are not. They have planned all of this very carefully..... They plan to kill or marginalize every one not rich in the country. Nothing they are doing looks like a mistake.....kill, kill, kill, bomb, bomb, bomb, arrest arrest arrest.....steal taxes steal taxes steal taxes. Planned and executed.

this is the big push, all of these governors over reaching their agendas because they see Obama as a two term president. These governors probably believe this is their last chance for a long while to trample workers rights.I believe OWS is having more of an impact than even we believe.

When then Governor Napolitano resigned before the end of her term it threw AZ into a bit of disarray. AZ has no Lt. Gov. The State Constitution calls for the Secretary of State to assume the Governorship. That is how AZ got Brewer.
Bummer that Napolitano, who has been horrendous as DHS director, abandoned the people of AZ. Napolitano goes on to reverse the stances she held as Governor (r.e federal responsibility for protecting the border) and leaves the people that elected her with Brewer.
