Well, superPACs will be used to the full capacity by the republicans.Obama must fight fire with fire, otherwise a lot of people will be brainwashed by the GOp's machine. It's logical that we must follow the mud started by the Supreme court nazi republican judges like Scalia who approved all this bullshit. It is not Obama's fault!!.

I cannot blame the man for this move! He will be getting hammered by the likes of Super PACs from Karl Rove and the Koch boys and so he needs to be prepared. He cannot stop their existence but it would be a very bad decision not to utilize them at this point in time.

The NYT weighed in on the issue this morning:
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/08/opinion/another-2012-campaign-for-sale.html?_r...
"The announcement fully implicates the president, his campaign and his administration in the pollution of the political system unleashed by Citizens United and related court decisions."

Obama is getting it. The Republicans do not follow the rules!
My local News paper censors what I post on their website.
No bad words nothing like the Republicans say. I just say facts, info for better wages. Even the chamber of commerce censors me for posting this link!
( http://www.businessforafairminimumwage.org ) on their YouTube site.If they do me like that, they will do it also to him!

You are absolutely correct about the censoring of factual information by some websites. They will not let you post positive information about President Obama. It is extremely obvious what they are doing.
Yes indeed, he will need an enormous war chest to counteract all of the outright lies that is being told by the GOP candidates and the Right Wing media, about him. - 4 months ago

He has not changed his opinion of them, he's just not deciding to tie his hands behind his back during the election. With all of the billionaires who are going to be funding against him, it would make sense to open up some avenues of his own. of course, the big difference here is that all associated super pacs for the Democratic party will have disclosure of who funds and how much, which is not a trivial difference in ethics for those interested.

All the people on the right that are complaining that this is hypocrisy have to face the fact that he has had to do this in order level the playing field somewhat. However, his Super Pac will still probably not raise as much money as the right has. Karl Rove's Super Pac alone has already raise over a 1/2 billion dollars by having billionaires donate $10 million each so far. Romney's Super Pac has all wall street bankers supporting him with millions of dollars each. So talk about trying to buy an election. In my opinion the oligarch win if the GOP win.

Corrected my amount. I should have said they have raised a half billion so far. That is still astronomical for private interest involved in politics. And $10 million for some of these billionaires is like $10.00 to us, just a drop in the bucket.

I wasn't trying to pick a fight with anyone. I was saying that the 'right-wing' complaining about this IS hypocrisy. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. This is just my opinion. By the way, are the Democrats to just roll over and allow the 'right-wing' to buy the election? I say at this point you have to fight fire with fire. From what I have read, Obama only did this because Democrats were begging him to allow the Super Pacs, as they are getting clobbered with unfair ads in their districts by Rove and Koch brother groups, who will do and say anything to turn the voters against them. If you tell a lie often enough, more people will believe it. As long as Citizens United is the law of the land you have to able to counteract the lies about environmental issues, union/worker rights, women rights, and, voter rights.

How in hell does the GOP candidate try to move to the middle during the general election will be interesting. Thought experiment: Say you're running for re-election and you want to fight Big Money's corruption of our country. But now there's Citizen's United (which you disagree with) but it's the law of the land. You know that you will be roundly criticized by people of your own party if you use that system. But you have to use it so you can win. Give it up? Let the Super Pacs amass an obscene amount of money to possibly win? Or use the law of the land so you can win and make some more changes?

It is invalid to conclude that this is OK because the Republicans do it. The truth is there is one party, the party of the elite. The real differences between Republicans and Democrats have disappeared and the main function of the 2 party system is about dividing the public against itself. As the people unwittingly argue that their servant of the elite is somehow better than the other party's servant of the elite one thing is guaranteed. The agenda of the elite will be served. This will continue as long as the people remain ignorant.

The fact of the matter is that you have to fight with the same weapons that your adversaries use if you expect to have a snowballs chance in hell of winning.
It's called a "level playing field" and unless liberals and progressives are willing to subject our country to the rule of the likes of a Newt Gingrich or a Mitt Romney (and their ability to appoint the next handful of Supreme Court Justices), then we'd better be willing to roll our sleeves up and get our hands just as dirty as is necessary to beat them.
It's called "reality", like it or not, and if we expect to get rid of SuperPacs in the future, we can never allow the Republicans to prevail under any circumstances.

I agree with Russ Feingold on this. This is the low road. You most certainly cannot say you now stand up for the poor, the sick, the environment. Using the fact that Republicans sink to this level because they think money and mudslinging win as an excuse to sink to their level is not smart. It actually looks desperate. I am thoroughly disgusted with both sides and actually wish Russ Feingold has challenged Obama for the nomination. He would most surely get my vote as would Bernie Sanders. If we are to ever change this country for the better and get the dirty money out of it this was the Democrats' time to shine and prove something, and once again they blew it.

Personally, I would like to see someone like Russ Feingold, Bernie Sanders, or Elisabeth Warren as President, but we are at war now, and it is with each other and it's not going to stop until a decisive victory is won by either side. To allow the victor to be the current incarnation of the right wing is absolutely unthinkable.
Today's right wing has pushed this country into becoming one of the worst violators of human rights in the world and we really need look no further than the vote on the FAA funding bill, which threw unionization under the bus. I have no words for the disappointment I feel in Senator Boxer, who voted for it.
Slowly, but surely, the right wing, funded by a pair of brothers whose fortune was founded on doing business with Joseph Stalin, is working to take away things like the right of unionization, curtail our right to vote in a crippling fashion, and supported the worst politicians we have ever seen. They have been terrifyingly successful so far.
We have turned into a country that has now, and continues on a daily basis, to violate every, single one of the twenty six tenets of universal human rights, ratified at its founding by the United Nations, and to this day, unsigned by the United States.
We are becoming everything this country was founded as a defense against and we are doing it rapidly.
Sadly, theory is often one thing, and practice another. Our SCOTUS has shredded our Constitution and the Citizens United decision was the last straw.
The only way to do away with it is to craft legislation to do so, and have in place a Congress that will pass it.
i weep for this country, for all the unspeakable suffering the right wing has caused not only our citizens but the whole world.
No one can do anything to stop this murderous path if they are out of office.
I'm sad President Obama had to make this choice, but defeat is not an option under any circumstances.

Well there isn't much that anyone can do about it with a republican Congress. I choose the battles I have a realistic chance of winning , not the one's that are a fait accompli. As long as Obama is in the White House he's made a signing statement that he will not use it on any American citizen. If any of the Republicans are elected they'll be bombing Iran on their first day in office and carting anyone they wish off to camps. Just one more reason to keep Obama right where he is. The other reason , and the main reason I always vote for Democratic presidents , is the Supreme Court. The thought of one more reactionary on that court deciding what happens for the next generation is reason enough to never, ever vote republican. I understand your reasoning vis a vis the Democratic party. My brother embraces a similar philosophy. Of course I am disappointed by what Republicans do, but I am equally disappointed by Democrats when they pursue the same policies as the Republicans.

I still do not blame Obama. His veto would have been overriden as he explained, which is why he made the signing statement.

He could have vetoed it out of principle and demonstrated the wrongness of the thinking behind the bill to the world. Instead he signed it. Now, thanks to this bipartisan effort, all future presidents will have this power--even the ones that have an R after their name.

Symolism means nothing since it would have become law anyway. Re-elect Obama and a veto proof Senate and a Democratic House and overturn it.
