CNN Contributor Says President Obama Perverted the Word of Jesus

Image
Ever wonder if right wingers ever actually read the Bible? I’m pretty sure they don’t. To the Right Winger, Jesus was a white, war mongering, corporation loving, profiteering, poor hating Christian. In reality, Jesus was none of these things. That’s why when President Obama invoked the teachings of Jesus during the National Prayer Breakfast, I was ecstatic. The President is not only a Christian, he’s a Christian who has actually read the Bible. The President invoked the teachings of Jesus in his call to raise taxes in an effort to help those in poverty. And it wasn’t long before the Right Wing whined about it.

Now this one is a first that I have never heard before. Someone needs to change their meds. Very absurd.
Obummer may have read the Bible but he has learned nothing. The passage is not about taxes, Obummer is wrong about this also. Idiot.

    • In this CNN contributors post he wrote that President Obama "has gone to war with Christians' consciences", I would say this man needs to find his Christian conscience. He sounds like a man who has had his paper jesus stolen.

    • The current right wing has to re-write everything it uses as gospel including the Bible, because there isn't a piece of literature that fits their new batshit crazy, evil intolerance in its original form. Oh wait, other than an Ayn Rand book.

    • I'm sooo tired of American media 'prostituting' Jesus for political gain. Have they no shame? They want to act as though God is in favor of their political party. Acting? Acting? Acting? Using God in the process. Shame, shame, shame!

Reminds me of one of my favorite Eagles songs, Frail Grasp on the Big Pitcure from the album "Long Road Out Of Eden":
      Shortened Lyrics by the Eagles;

      Well, ain't it a shame
      That our short little memories
      Never seem to learn
      The message of history
We keep makin' the same mistakes
Over and over and over and over again
      And then we wonder why
We're in the shape we're in

And we pray to our Lord
      Who we know is American
      He reigns from on high
He speaks to us through middlemen
      And he shepherds his flock
We sing out and we praise His name
      He supports us in war
      He presides over football games
      And the right will prevail
All our troubles shall be resolved
We have faith in the Lord
Unless there's money or sex involved

Frail grasp on the big picture
Nobody's calling them for roughing up the pitcher (?)
It's a frail grasp on the big picture
      Heaven help us

Frail grasp on the big picture
All waiting for that miracle elixir
Frail grasp on the big picture
      I don't wonder anymore

    • I've thought for a while that CNN has gone over to the dark side. I never watch anything on that station except Anderson Cooper, who at least knows how to question these nutballs.

    • I'm an agnostic, but if anyone perverts the word of Jesus it's the right wing. They use Jesus (like that means anything) to take away a woman's right to choose, rail against health care, don't tax the rich, etc. Besides, Jesus shouldn't play into anything. Keep religion out of politics. I like facts and common sense myself. And isn't it just about being a good person and being decent to others? Of course we should help the less fortunate. It's called having a soul.

LEEN! HI! (oops sorry about the yelling) can't point out everything I agree with what you said, but YES, YEAH, FACTS RULE, Establish a Science Council like Krypton had before the planet exploded. Question, "are they called right-wingers because they THINK they are ALWAYS right and never wrong?" "Are we called LEFTISTS because after they are dead WRONG we are the only ones LEFT who are TOTALLY in the right?"

    • PRAYING AT THE SUPERBOWL

I thought this was an interesting summary (on PBS website) of how Roman politicians played the game of worship. Anything look familiar?

"Roman religion involved cult worship. Approval from the gods did not depend on a person’s behavior, but on accurate observance of religious rituals. Each god needed an image – usually a statue or relief in stone or bronze – and an altar or temple at which to offer prayers and sacrifices.

      Quid pro quo

Requests and prayers were presented to gods as a trade: if the god did what was requested (the nuncupatio), then the worshipper promised to do a particular thing in return (the solutio). This trade was binding. To persuade the gods to favor the requests, a worshipper might make offerings of food or wine, or would carry out a ritual sacrifice of an animal before eating it.

The Romans believed that their gods or spirits were actively involved in their daily lives. As a result, sacred meals were held in their name during certain religious festivals. It was believed that the god actually took part in the meal: a place was set for him at the table, invitations were issued in his name, and a portion of the food served was set aside for him to enjoy.

      Public worship

The public side of religion was more organized and more formal than the private. At home, the paterfamilias – head of the family – performed religious rituals for the household. Beyond the home, gods were worshipped by the state, which employed colleges of highly trained priests and priestesses."

    • Yup this is the world we live in. Arguing over whether the magical invisible political tool in the sky agrees with Democrats or Republicans. Anyone in power who claims to know the will of god is pulling a con. What an absurd world in which we live!

    • Right wing Christians actually have more in common with the Old Testament than the New Testament (with themselves substituted for "The Chosen People"). This is kind or ironic. I'm not going to elaborate because if you're familiar with the Bible you're already thinking "DUH".

    • There are two verbal preambles to every right wing rant. They are: Jesus said, and The Founding Fathers said. If you hear either of these from a re_Pig, you know the words following it will be a blatant lie.

    • Everyone seems to pervert the word of Jesus, but evangelicals and republicans seem to have perfected the art. If Jesus really is the son of God, these cynical assholes are going to have quite the time explaining themselves on judgement day.

    • I am so sick of the evangelists who only interpret the bible to suit their needs. Believe it or not when I was wee one and attended Sunday School, I was specifically taught that Jesus loves everyone. (Red, or yellow, black, or white, their the same in his sight, was a song I learned). I was also taught that he helped the poor, the handicapped, the ones that the public had turned their back's on and that it was our duty to do the same.

What has happen to religion? When did it become big business that are only out for themselves? No wonder I became agnostic when I got older. I hate the hypocrisy.

The 'right' cannot stand that Obama used the bible to prove his case. They will continue to claim that God is vengeful and should be feared and that they can portray Jesus as anything but loving is unbelievable.

It went into full force when George W. started Faith Based Funding, at the start of the Iraq war. He gained the trust of religious leaders and used them like puppets to remain silent before the war. It may not have occurred, but I think our spiritual leaders should have stood up against the Iraq war. Iraq had not killed one American and they were not openly threatening us, yet the Iraqi people had to live through American 'Shock and Awe', live on American TV.

Two planes taking down three buildings, rocked my world. What must 'Shock and Awe' and the war, done to ordinary Iraqi's. Men, women and children were all affected by the war. Our spiritual leaders stayed silent. I was screaming, where the heck were they. They were planning how to gain donations from George W.'s new 'Faith Based Funding'.

They have been spun (mislead) into thinking wrong is right, because the republicans 'use' God in their politics. Just saying it, doesn't mean it's true. Facts matter. The truth matters more. I wish our religious leaders would accept nothing less than the truth!

Trust is earned, not bought. It's an "Assault on Reason".
