There is a labor shortage in Canada. Although Canada has a 7.5% unemployment rate, the need for skilled employees is becoming a major concern. It is believed that the once these jobs are filled then the other less skilled jobs that are causing Canada's unemployment rate will begin to do better also. Canada also has a shortage of labor in the health care and health care support, computer tech, computer programing and software, social sciences, teaching and management fields. Quebec will have 1.3 million job openings by 2016. Canada is also experiencing a very high rate of retirement. The Canadian government is calling for more immigration. All of these links can give anyone in the United States something to think about.

there may be a shortage of people willing to work for minimum wage, that's about it. Millions of jobs waiting for immigrants to fill is pure propaganda and would only drastically lower the costs of labour.

I have no illusions about the generally higher quality of life our neighbors up north enjoy now, but I'm still very uneasy with the recent rush to migrate I've seen. I know a good number of people who have taken this route or are considering it in search of better employment and social conditions up there. I was one of them myself for a while. So some of this talk about us us citizens disdaining the idea of migration because our country is inherently better isn't totally true. Contrary to the idealized opinions of some of my northward bound friends, I see some real troubling developments in canada's politics and economic outlook that turn me off from the idea. Nothing against canadians, but if emigration ever becomes a serious consideration for me, I'll be looking to pull a game of thrones and go south as south goes. For all its glaring social problems, brazil is looking better for english speakers by the day.

Oh no doubt, no doubt at all. I'm torn between doing that myself and trying to look past it to what can be done to improve the situation. I wouldn't try just to knock canada without acknowledging that for every problem I point to there, the us would seem to display it in spades. My point was more that there is no lasting solution to any of our internal problems other than confronting them. It might not be desirable for everybody, given how disconcerting recent developments have been, but as much as I love canada and its people it doesn't offer a cure all to the average american's woes.

While I believe Canada certainly has her issues I do believe that she is a great country. So I say this.... Here is an open invitation to all the liberal centrist people in the US. Come to Canada and we'll hang out. leave that toxic pool to the GOP then they can finally have their free market utopia and devour each other. You'll also help tip the absurdly small balance of power in favor of the left and we can send Harper and his like to hang with the GOP.

From those sources you refered me to, Real Econ TV, and BrassCheck TV,
I wonder if Canada has Economic Hit Men as there are here in the USA. I have
a feeling they don't. I got an update from them today. They talk of Banksters
using hit men to make other countries a " deal they can't refuse " on the threat
of destabilization & overthrow of their legitimate Government. The loans are
deliberately engineered to be fraudulent because they're designed in a way
that the Banksters know in advance they can never be repaid. They are
instead intended to enable the multi national Corporations the Banksters
represent, move in, and perform the supposed services on a maximized
profit margin benefiting only the Corporation to the detriment of the country
they invade, so that the Corporation can dominate them, being subjected to
debt slavery. It's Monsanto's classic pattern of their invasion of India by means
of stealing Indian farmers' lands, and causing mass suicides. As my educational
history involves Psychology & Law, and as I've had a unique opportunity to
study criminology since 1968, I'm not surprised at these Organized Crime style
tactics. It's always been said if you want to be rich, own a successful Bank.
But if you want to be uberrich, invest in ownership of a central Bank like the Fed.
As Monsanto has weaponized food, the Banksters behind Monsanto have
weaponized money by debt basing it on a Ponzi Scheme. This ultimately has
to have a pervasive effect in the labor markets of all countries with a central
bank since the Government looks to them to manage their countries' economies. - 4 months ago

Juvenile. I have been living in this country since the 50s. He does not walk like a teabagger. He does not talk like a teabagger. As a matter of fact we do not have a teabagger movement of any kind in this country that I am aware of. He does not invoke the name of Christ. Our Conservatives are not attacking women's health rights. They are not trying to dismantle universal health care. Tell me some of the things our Conservatives have said or done that makes them so much like the Tea Party Republicans. And this conversation is about the jobs we need to fill.

have thought for years, since the realization our votes don't elect, to move North. Loved living in NH and always wanted to live in wide open spaces...it is a long way to go though to cook or serve a meal which is what I love to do. It has never paid my bills...perhaps in Canada it would. Interesting post Jim.

There are a few open jobs here in Calgary Alberta in the field... some colleges are hiring and starting wage isn't terrible depending on your experience. You'll probably wait just as long to see a doctor and he'll probably be from a different country but at least it's free and as an added bonus you'll get to experience the soul crushing decline of a country I'm sure you'll come to love. Don't you remember when he wanted to change the truth in advertising laws in2008 and the uproar from the Canadian citizens shut him down in a heartbeat. do you think that would have stopped an American Conservative? Every time we get one of these conversations going we all, me too, turn it into Conservative vs, Liberal. Does anybody want a job.

Do you mean like the difference between fiscal Conservatives and tax and spend Liberals. Between 1969 and 2009, you only had 12 years with a Liberal in the White House. After 8 of those 12 years the Liberals left behind a surplus. 28 of the other 32 years were up to Conservatives. How did that work out for you. Trickle down much.
