"Exactly. So now a relative handful of super-rich Democrats want [to] fight a relative handful of super-rich Republicans. And we call that a democracy."

    • Well it's inverted totalitarian fascism from the other side......

Bob is right, Obama could've found a way to overturn citizens united a long time ago, he didn't care to.

Just like it's okay for Obama to leave GITMO open even though one of his campaign promises was to close it...

Just like it's okay to drone bomb people they don't have a case against and tell the American public whatever they think sounds best....

Just like SO MANY other things Obama has done, or allowed to happen, wrong is wrong, fuck all this "our corruption is better than your corruption". Anyone who cares to think, looking at that assertion, knows it's a hypocritical demented mentality that goes into it, and if they had any integrity would avoid it....

Obama could've stopped the wrong causing this ... But no, fuck democracy just show him the money too....

    • Bob Reich is absolutely correct, but when faced with the choice of competing against the oligarchs with a pack of rag tag poor people there wasn't much choice. I'm a pacifist until the other guy takes out his 44 magnum, then I go for the 12 gauge with buck shot

    • In 2008 Obama promised to live within the Campaign Finance System rules; but as soon as he realized how much he could raise OUTSIDE the system, he broke that promise. Did he do THAT to keep up with McCain and the GOP? NO!!! He did it to beat McCain over the head with his greater resources.

What happened that time? Every group that gave big to Obama got protected. Wall Street, Big Pharma, Mulit-Nationals ... When has Obama EVER stood up to his big contributors in favor of his base? Why believe it will be different this time? The SuperPAC donors will own any Obama second term.

To quote that great orator, George W. Bush: "Fool me once, ahhh, shame on you. Fool me twice ... Can't get Fooled Again ..." Well, at least I won't get fooled again by Obama.

    • Until the Citizen's United ruling is overturned and/or legislated out, you are not going to stop it. However, ignoring it while the other side is about to open a can of whoop-ass on you with theirs is a completely ignorant move. I grow tired of sideline politicians like Robert Reich burping out their criticism about it. Robert would no doubt be the first one in line if Obama got defeated without using a PAC to condemn for not taking advantage of it since the teapublicans were.

I'm with you. SCOTUS sold the next election to the rich. What is Obama to do, roll over and let them win because they have massive amounts of the money to flood the airwaves with all their lies? I would have liked him to be to able stand on principle, but until Citizens United is either muted or overturned, it at least lets him level the playing field. IMHO!

" Roll over and let them win?" That is exactly what some of the posters here want him to do, because they want him to loose. So they criticize him for being in a Catch-22 quandry. They know the purist, ultra ,left wing radicals will back them up and cost Obama more votes.
I like Robert Reiche but he's a professor, not a political strategist. I'm certainly glad for all our sakes , the President will ignore his impractical and bone headed advice.

    • No, the Supreme Court handed the elections to the to the super-rich. And in retrospect...what the hell was Obama supposed to do. Be a one legged man at an ass-kicking contest ? Brain up people...you fight bullys with might not jello.

    • There must be some maxim about hitting bottom and admitting you have a problem that should apply here; but I'm not sure who's going to hit bottom; if anybody's going to admit they need help; or if somebody is just going to OD and be DOA. The bath in the septic tank that the candidates will be subjected to as we get closer to November will certainly make everybody stink.
