Are You Really a Progressive?

The progressive label suggests progress. But what sort of progress are we talking about.?

"Woodrow Wilson is credited with creating the idea of a "living" or "evolving" Constitution. He saw the natural rights principles of the Constitution as obstacles to political "progress." Wilson was the first president to openly criticize the Constitution, comparing natural rights to "political witchcraft."

According to progressives, you see, America didn't need a Constitution. It simply needed an administrative state whose purpose was the unending quest for evolutionary "progress."

Government is not a machine, but a living thing. It falls, not under the theory of the universe, but under the theory of organic life. It is accountable to Darwin. -- Woodrow Wilson"

So you see, to early progressives, The constitution stood in the way of progress. There needed to be government intervention to create a better society because only a small group of technocrats could really know whats good for the country. One of the earliest examples of this progressivism came during the wilson presidency. Prohibition outlawed the sale of alcohol. the reason ofcourse is because the government knows better than you. Prohibition is still going on today with the criminalization of marijuana by the DEA.

I argue the our current imperialism we have today is due impart to the wilsonian doctrine of making the world safe for democracy. Our entrance into world war 1 was a tragedy and i believe it was the reason for the rise of hitler and stalin. Progressive foreign policy is pretty much the same as domestic policy. i know better than you so im going to go and overthrow your dictator and install my own.

Newsflash: the concept of the "living" or "evolving" constitution was conceived of, and penned into the constitution by the founding fathers in the Article providing for amending the constitution. The ability to amend the constitution itself qualifies it as a "living" constitution. Since your premise is flawed, your conclusion is invalid. Prohibition was legislated because John Rockefeller paid Congress to enact it, in an effort to stem the production of alcohol as an energy source that could compete with fossil fuel which he marketed through Standard Oil. Hitler rose to power on the desperation of the depressions created by predatory corporate practice. You're thinking, that's good. But "a little learning is a dangerous thing; drink deep, or taste not the Pierian Spring."
