Maybe, in some ways, I still tend to be a little naive. Yet, I find some comfort in the fact that I taught my children well.
I’ve always been open with my children about gays and lesbians. I taught them from a young age what it meant to be gay and that we should all accept one another. They grew up never caring who was gay and who wasn’t. It was just never anything they gave much thought too.

I too taught my kids to accept people for who they are and not to judge them because they are different. But it is not only about whether someone is from the LGBT community it is also about race and religious beliefs. It is important to teach your children tolerance and by doing so they will live a much more enriched life. Reaching out gives you the opportunity to meet those that you may not have otherwise met.

I agree and cannot understand why people need to have such intolerance of others. What does it make you but a bitter person.

I also taught my kids not to discriminant against other races, gays. They must have listened as now they have black and gay friends. It may not be in our life time but it will end. We have made much progress since my kids were teens.

I agree. If you ask younger people today they don't have the views of some of these old farts that are so hateful and intolerant against those that are different; be it your sexual preference, your race, or religion. We made such progress with our own children. We cannot afford to go back to the old days of hate and segregation.
