Total responses so far to the Australian American bode against China-14
Total responses so far to the death of Whitney Houston- 90As a snapshot of the American psyche, I think these numbers say a great deal.
First of all I wanted to say, that I was not a Whitney Houston fan, as I did not think she was a terribly good singer, there is more to good singing than simply bludgeoning your audience with one's vocal range, power (projection) and endless archipelagos.
To use just ONE example of the many gone before her, by comparison, Billie Holiday did not have the vocal projection power or anywhere near the vocal range of Whitney Houston, yet was able to use what she did have to incredible emotional effect, THAT is real talent, which many Americans apparently are no longer able to comprehend, it's analogous to going to Olive Garden, and proclaiming proudly to all your friends family and neighbors, that you have had a fine authentic Italian dinner (FOR ONLY $12.99 EACH!). It's as though Americans desire nothing more than mediocrity, and insist on wearing it as a badge of honor.
But the relative merits and abilities of Whitney Houston is not my point here.
The point that I'm trying to make, is that in the relative scheme of things, I would think-and hope-that the general population would be more involved, thoughtful, or concerned, with what's taking place with the Geo-political/military situation their country is involved in with Australia, (And it's serious ramifications) rather than the death of a pop music singer.
Oh well, huge sigh-yet again- oh well, pass the endless soup, salad and cheesy bread (FOR JUST $12.99 EACH!)-gawd.

I was stunned and grieved to hear that Whitney Houston had passed away. I wish to express my deepest sympathy to her family. One of the loveliest women I have seen. She was loved by all who knew her. No one who knew her could ever forget her lovely ways and music. I admired her greatly. Thanks for so many great memoires through your lovely music, she will be missed. RIP Whitney, farewell.

Most of us know all of Whitney's greatest hits.In scanning the net, I found out that "Jesus Loves Me", the same "Jesus Loves Me" that we all sang while growing up in Sunday school has always been one of her favorites songs.God, this woman could sing. The world has lost a good one and I'm sad and so sorry for her.I'm sad for the ones that she leaves behind. All of them. You can rest now.Rest in PEACE Whitney Houston.

I know Bobby and knew Whitney through Bobby's sister Bethy, who passed from cancer here in Atlanta over 8 years ago. She died sober with 10 years clean.Bethy introduced to me to Whitney 3 years before she passed away. She told me about the drugs way back them. Contrary to what you've read in the gossip papers, Whitney had a bad heroin addiction long before she met Bobby. Bobby was her gopher, not supplier, when it came to drugs. Six years ago, I was selected to be part of an intervention team to try and help Whitney. We met 4 Saturdays in a row at a doctors office in downtown Atlanta. Whitney missed every Saturday. She never showed up. She always called one of us later on that night crying with excuses. She had a terrible addiction. We knew that going into this whole thing. We all forgave her, but we also had to let her go.Because they may not have been good for each other doesn't given anyone the right to blame Bobby Brown for the death of Whitney Houston. Bobby was looking at going to prison and he kick his habit 3 years ago. They've been divorced for nearly 5 years and the were actually still friends up until her passing.Rest in Peace Whitney.

Yeah he was so good for her. Sorry I don't know her personally like you do but I remember what she was like before and after she met the man. I personally did not care much for her music but she was an inspiration to many, and if she had an addiction in her career she covered it well. She did not cover it so well after she met the man. I am not the only person in this world who thinks he was a terrible influence on her. Your comment was very insightful, right up until your hurtful words at the end, but if it makes you feel better to piss on me then have at it, hero.

First look at Whitney Houston in her new movie!!!
This is the Whitney we like to see!
This is the first look at Mz. Houston's new movie Sparkle with co-star Jordin Sparks.
And gurlfriend is looking good!
Jordin described her experience with working with her idol:
"She was so cool and very motherly toward me. If I ever looked like I needed something, here she came saying 'Are you okay?'
I sang her songs into a hairbrush when I was little. Now she's acting as my mom and scolding me. It was a dream come true."
The movie is a remake of the 1976 film about a group of singing sisters.
Whitney herself expressed her excitement on working on the period piece:
"Part of the fun of making this movie is definitely the costumes and the hairstyles. The movie is set in 1963, and we had a great wardrobe, hair and makeup person and I loved wearing the outfits."
And they suit her well. We're so glad she's looking healthy and is doing what she does best. So, so, SO hoping we get to hear her sing in the film.
Wow, we can't believe it's been 15 years since we last saw one of our favorite divas on the big screen. It's about time she makes her comeback!

This strikes home, literally. Whitney Houston had a home within walking distance of mine, reputedly complete with an elaborate recording studio. I "judge" artists only by their music, and her "Whitney" album is a part of my collection. No matter what you may think, WOW!, she could really hit those notes when she leaned into them. Now "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" is going to be stuck in my mind for a while.

Whitney Houston Dies at 48
http://www.theatlanticwire.com/entertainment/2012/02/whitney-houston-dies-48/485...
Whitney Houston has died at age 48, a publicist has confirmed to the AP. The singer, who has sold 200 million records and won six Grammys, was spotted out as recently as Thursday, according to The Hollywood Reporter, attending a pre-Grammy party in Hollywood hosted by singer Kelly Price. She was also scheduled to appear at Clive Davis' annual Grammy bash tonight. TMZ reports the singer died at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where a police crime lab vehicle was spotted parked outside. THR also reports that Houston was overhead "chastising an assistant" on Thursday morning at the hotel, and later that night "got into an altercation" with Stacy Francis, a finalist on The X Factor. In 2009, the singer detailed for Oprah Winfrey how she freebased cocaine for years with husband Bobby Brown, an addiction that ravaged her voice and made her a popular tabloid target. No details have yet been released regarding the cause of death, or whether or not it was drug-related. Updates to follow.
