Almost a year ago, Scholars & Rogues took a shot a predicting the Republican presidential race. From over a dozen contenders, including Trump, Palin, Pawlenty, Thune, Pataki, Cain, Barbour, Roemer, Daniels, Christie, Huntsman, ad infinitum, we predicted three would emerge as serious contenders—Santorum, Gingrich and Romney...

    • I think the king will get reelected but there are more than 10 reasons.
      11. a dishonest media complicit in character assassination, lies and distortion
      12. Enough people in this country not paying attention to voting consequences
      13. An abysmal education system that does not convey the duties of government, freedom and the duties/responsibilities per the Constitution.

      Not an all inclusive list.

    • As much as I like to believe that the ideas in this article are true, I am skeptical about it. Never underestimate the stupidity of the fickle middle. We know that the left will be there, however hard it will be to get "enthusiastic" about our compromising president. We have no choice. We know how the hardcore right will vote, for whatever clown the Republicans put up.
But Obama's biggest assets are his newly acquired populist stance, (particularly the call for increased taxes on the rich), and the slightly declining unemployment numbers. But we can't take anything for granted, the right is highly organized and poised to bombard us with the largest amount of Koch-fueled bull crap you will ever see in your life.
This spring will be pivotal. OWS and the unions are planning to step up the pace with larger events, strategically called and implemented. We have to let our voices be heard. If we scream loud enough the Tea Party hacks will run for cover. (They have already stopped protesting themselves for fear of being infiltrated with OWS militants.) See, it's working already. But we have much more work cut out for us.

    • Pitiful that the Democratic party can not give us a decent candidate to vote for. Lessor of two evils once again, vote for Obama, you're screwed, vote for Romney, you're screwed. What a country. No wonder I vote third party with the crap candidates those two are giving us.

That voting third party is really empowering, isn't it? Those few thousand votes added up really give one a power base to argue your case from a position of strentgh. Ha! They barely even put the list of those third party candidates in World Almanacs.

And that is a problem, isn't it? We seem stuck in a two party system with parties that don't really represent the views of most of society, thier stuck in diametric opposition which leaves most of us scratching our heads over choices they make.

If the citizens of our country REALLY want a third party, there will be one. So far in our history that doesn't seem to have worked out very well. There is nothing to prevent it. But not even Teddy Roosevelt could pull the Bull Moose Party to victory. There has to be a national movement toward it that is not going to peter out at less than 20% of the vote as most have. You need to put together the right coalition and so far no one seems to be able to do that. A real third party may have a shot, but throwing your influence away on parties that get less than 1% of the vote may make people feel better in the meantime, but as my grandfather used to say " It don't get nobuddy nuttin!"

Consensus government doesn't work either. We have consensus government in the Northwest Territories with no party politics. You end up with no real platforms and everyone runs around in circles, only out for themselves. I would point out that it would be too late to start a third party that could have any real affect this year. It would take years to build up a coalition that could stand on the national stage. You could start at the state level and work up to the national level in 4 years. In the meantime, I think the most important thing do in this election is look at the candidates and pick the one that most fits your views.

Also remember, a third party candidate could make it so the GOP win if they take enough votes away from Obama in the swing states. The worst thing that could happen at this stage of the country's recovery is turn the economy back to the GOP. So be very cautious. That is just my humble opinion.

Heh - S&R is a pack of people who blog on the side. The site's idea of a good month is when it earns enough in advertising to cover hosting costs. The upside of this is that there's no question of co-option by advertisers. The downside, of course, is that when you have a demanding job it cuts into the time you have to think and write.

They do lots of guest posts, though....

    • Very interesting analysis by Scholars & Rogues. I do agree with their views of the GOP field. However, I believe that the President has finally figured out you cannot compromise all the time as people will take it as being an appeaser. I think this year you will see a stronger more forceful President. As he said, you get better the longer you are in the job. That is especially true with intelligent people who are able to learn from their mistakes.

    • They're living in a fantasy land if they think a majority of voters will vote rethuglican. The number keep skewing Obama's way amid all the rethug infighting. We'll get a better picture once a true candidate emerges, but it appears that they down to rigging the vote to ensure that Romney wins.

Tonight on the Ed Show the 2 women he had on talking about the reptard's big mistake concerning birth control was going to cost them a BIG majority of the female vote; and although most men probably wouldn't want to admit it, if the woman in the house says she isn't voting reptard you can bet a lot of husbands won't vote reptard either!

The socks around here might shout from the rooftops over the majority of this year that the reptards are going to be back in power after the election, but it's my considered opinion that will be nothing more than wishful thinking.

Pwr 2 the clear-headed female 99%! GUILLOTINE the 1% and their political WHORES!

It went along with the graf in the article related to Mittsy's trip to Canada with their dog on the top of their station wagon back in the 80s. The author said that is going to do as much damage to Mittsy as LBJ pulling his dog's ears did to him.
