to gathering and honoring all of the great "protest" art of America since their supposed hayday in the 50's and 60's. I firmly believe this genre of art and artists needs more respect than this and I request your assistance in bringing that respect back!
"Our nation has a rich history of art and artists that stood for something, that stood up to the establishment. They have had their "hayday" according to some, but here we gather to prove these people wrong and share all the art and artists of the Revolution from their supposed hayday in the 50's and 60's through to their modern contemporaries. Let's gather all the music, poetry, prose, ink, pigment, and graphite of this important movement in our culture! Power to Art, Power to the Revolution!"
Thank you folks for joining me here. Lets use this first thread to share some of our favorite politcally charged art (of any nature) with each other!

One of my all time favorites, Marley's classic "Stand Up For Your Rights!"

Last one. Just wanted to get the word out about this band, for those who haven't heard them. This one is me favorite by them. Their last 2 albums, Appeal to Reason, and Endgame, are their best. Masterpieces. The earlier ones are a little raw. Even if the music isn't to your taste, their message is still great.

The softer side of Rise Against. This song always gives me chills when I listen to it. If you haven't heard the band, check em out. Vegetarians, Progressives, humanitarians, revolutionaries.
Well worth waiting the 15 second advertisement at the beginning

There is nothing I can say about Tom Waits that hasn't been said before! One thing I can add that most don't know is he wrote and recorded "Strange Weather". The song was released by Marianne Faithful... but those who know Toms work know he could have done it better. Well here you go folks a track most of you have probable never ever heard before
Demo version recording of "Strange Weather" by Tom Waits
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02oKHUCvqVs&feature=related"Strangers only talk about the weather, it's the same the whole world round, the earth is getting flatter, the sky is falling in down, but its still the same, strangers only talk about the weather"

The classic novel "Through The Looking Glass" is still debated today over whether it was a political commentary for it's time. I would like to think it is. But the is no thinking on this one. Where? Woodstock! When? If you really have to ask that you may want to take a step back! Who? Grace Slick singing with Jefferson Airplane on one of their all time classic pieces.

Buffalo Springfield, do I need to say anymore then that? Well for many from my age group and older, not much is needed here... but for you younger types before US with Bono, before NiN with Trent Reznor, well before almost anyone else(notable exceptions aside) Buffalo Springfield placed a target on the politcal system and government in general with many of their works. They were vocal and active, end even though the song sounds softer if you really listen there is more frustration than any of todays screaming radio heads could ever get across to their audiences.
"For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield

Not all political messages in music are of the same yarn, some step out on their own to blaze new trails, personal outrage and experience loans a lot to art.
"Half-breed" by Cher

Bow down the one you serve,
You're gonna get what you deserve.Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails has contributed more the collective political consciousness of rebelious teens from the 90's through to today then almost any other artist or musician, but again this get overlooked.
