" I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial by strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country."

    • " If I were given the ultimate choice-of living in a country with
Government, but without newspapers, or a country with newspapers
and without Government, I'd choose the country with newspapers
and without Government " Thomas Jefferson. Must have struck
a harmonious chord in the thinking of bona fide Journalists:
" In any Republic, the Freedom of the Press isn't simply an
institution of Democracy. The Free Press IS the Democracy."
Walter Chronkite. I have to agree. I see a lot of shitbags on TV
who represent themselves as being well educated experts on
American History, yet these crooks try to pull the wool over
people's eyes telling people " the Constitution never guaranteed
anyone a Democracy, only a Republic " Hogwash. Jefferson
refused to sign the Constitution unless & until all 13 colonies
ratified the Bill of Rights which he & George Mason collaborated
to amend the Constitution with. There's a vital, fundamental
reason why the Free Press is enumerated first & foremost.
We wouldn't be having these pleasant conversations here on
Current.com without the Internet and citizen Journalist social
network communities like it. And the right to speak our minds
free of intimidation, coercion, threats, or oppression for it.
WE are the USA's Democracy. Us and all others like us.

    • Jefferson said a lot of things. Most of what he said would be an
anathema to liberals (statists) everywhere. He would rise up in armed revolt against what King Barry is doing.

      Some of his stuff:

To take from one because it is thought that his own industry and that of his father’s has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association—the guarantee to every one of a free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.

I think myself that we have more machinery of government than is necessary, too many parasites living on the labor of the industrious

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

I am not a friend to a very energetic government. It is always oppressive.

The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.

Jefferson would not have made a very good liberal by todays standards.

How was the Louisiana Purchase oppressive. That took money away from citizens and spent it with reckless disregard for the will of the people?

Thomas Jefferson did more to expand the role of the Federal Government than any other president for 75 years.

What a bunch of contextual crap.

How many lobbyist are in Washington or have been in Washington for the last say, 50 or 60 years?

      What's the point?

Big money / big business has been perverting our laws, regulations and politicians.

      Why is this relevant?

Big money / big business has bribed it's way into an immoral position of stealing a disproportionate amount of the "industry and skill" of the American People, on this fact you are lost.

Why do some fail to see or realize the unfairness our economic system has drifted into?

Because they lack the "industry and skill" to make or accomplish something for themselves, therefore they project onto ALL others their own lack and shortcoming - while simultaneously seeking the ego satisfaction associating themselves with the modern version of a super ego, the ultra wealthy.

10 4 and has continued unabated under the obama regime...Obama Backers Tied to Lobbies Raise Millions
WASHINGTON — Despite a pledge not to take money from lobbyists, President Obama has relied on prominent supporters who are active in the lobbying industry to raise millions of dollars for his re-election bid. At least 15 of Mr. Obama’s “bundlers” — supporters who contribute their own money to his campaign and solicit it from others — are involved in lobbying for Washington consulting shops or private companies. They have raised more than $5 million so far for the campaign.

    • If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen. - Samuel Adams

    • If people are not vigilant and become complacent the corporations will always take advantage. This is exactly what Jefferson was warning the country about back then. It is now time to wake up and hope that it is not too late to reverse all the damage that has been done in the last 10 years by the big corporate overlords.

Actually, our economy and opportunity has sucked since the founding of this nation, we need to flush that interfering Constitution down the can and let Obama do what he wants. We are smarter than the Soviets, smarter than Castro, smarter than Jung Il, we can make Communism work here, we can call it, Neo-Communism, or resurrect the Progressive Movement, sounds fresher than the tried and failed version. To hell with individual rights,we should impose the dictates that the great and noble leadership of China has on their people. Our Dear Leader himself, the smartest man in the world, also agrees that we should be more like China. We need to eradicate those interfering Republitards from Washington and let the "democrats" run the county. Everything will be sunny, we can drive our cars on pond scum and not have to buy oil from those Arabs, and the world will love us once again.

    • "aristocracy of our monied corporations". If look at American history you see quotes like this referencing "the monied corporations" or the "money trust". It's something very specific. Something that has tried numerous times to take over American politics since the U.S.'s inception with various decrees of success and setbacks. But since the the early 1900's it has succeeded.

    • Why would you think that specifically it is Republicans who would resist such counsel. . . do you think that it was only the entirety of the GOP that was complicit in fostering. initiating and supporting crony-capitalism?

If so, I suggest that year after year you've been deceived by 545 people who are supposed to represent the very essence of constitutional jurisprudence on behalf of the citizens. . . "we have seen the enemy, and they are us."

The Democrats had a limited government peace candidate four years ago. Stuck at 8 percent he quit his candidacy and reneged against his presumed allegiance to become the kingmaker in a close election. I don't know if he will be back in 2016 because he has been under investigation repeatedly. However, each time he has been cleared, and if he does he will get my support.

The difference between Ron Paul and Bill Richardson is mostly only their approach to education.

Of course he is, Thomas Jefferson was an Aries as you and I are, Kenny.
He knew the score even before the opposition started the ball in play, as
he was so sharp, his mind's eye could see the logical implications of their
moves long before the average person could. I've studied the mainsteam
quotes of all the more notable free masons from Jefferson to Adams to
Washington, to Franklin, to Monroe to Jackson. The same shit the enemies
of the USA are trying to pull today is exactly the same shit they were pulling
in his era. The main difference now from then is that we have educational
media by internet access that's so super advanced over what existed in
the 1700s that we're now finaly up to the same speed Jefferson was. ( Though
it also helps our understanding to see played out now the consequences
of the collective past mistakes in judgement since which have borne out
all he said is true ) The spirit of Thomas Jefferson lives & breathes in every
modern human soul who speaks Jefferson's mind. Noone can kill an idea.
Ideas are deific, eternal, and immortal.

I abhor war and view it as the greatest scourge of mankind.

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.

Experience demands that man is the only animal which devours his own kind, for I can apply no milder term to the general prey of the rich on the poor.

More than you might know. One of the fiends who enabled Hearst. Anslinger.
J.Edgar Hoover of the Flunkie Bureau to engineer Prohibition was DuPont.
( He was developing nylon which couldn't compete with Hemp for use in the
U.S. Military's applications. In order to secure a lucrative G contract, DuPont
had to first have his competitor outlawed.) I DVRd a documentary from the
History channel entitled: " Empire of Industry " this week. The synopsis used
to describe the contents of the 1 hr show was: " The DuPont Dynasty ( unduely ) influences affairs of State since the era of Thomas Jefferson. " Both free
masons Jefferson & Washington planted vast fields of Cannabis and Hemp
on their plantations in Virginia. Here was a family Dynasty interfering with the
U.S. from the time of it's inception, and still interfering with them 150 years later.
We have a $ 2.3 Billion annual Prison Industrial Complex in the USA because
of the enemies of Jefferson & American Liberty. Gingrich advocated the use
of the death penalty for MJ users in 1997. Advocating persecution & genocide
of millions of law abiding American citizens for using a medicine...No doubt
which one is the REAL public enemy # 1 is there ? If anyone seeks to be a
genuine terrorist it's that evil hypocrit Gingrich.
