MSNBC and The Daily Beast are reporting that Limbaugh has lost all national sponsors. Further, ThinkProgress is reporting a total of 141 companies have ditched Limbaugh. But a new memo from Clear Channel's Premier Networks, which distributes Limbaugh's show, suggests that those numbers are just the tip of the iceberg. Premier is reportedly informing its stations that 98 major advertisers — including carmakers, insurance companies, and fast-food chains — want off not just Limbaugh's show but also those of other "offensive or controversial" talkers like Mark Levin, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, and Sean Hannity. Is it possible that Limbaugh's latest intemperate rant will "kill" the right-wing talk radio genre he helped pioneer?

The mere fact that most of these household names previously advertised on his show causes deep concern with me.

Corporate America supported this racist bigot as long as they could. They tolerated his bigotry. His ignorance is what finally ran them off, but they'll be back one day. Just ask Don Imus.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer piece of shit!!! What will be funny to watch is how his massive ego will not allow him to stop doubling down on his stupidity. His self destruction will be a joy to witness!!!

It saddens me so that Mr. Limbaugh's employer might lose money. Maybe Clear Channel Communications will be able to let Mr. Limbaugh go so they can pay the rest of their employees a decent wage.

I have friends that are on air personalities on Clear Channel stations and they are not paid anywhere near $50 million per year. As a matter of fact they are paid near slave wages with poor benefits.

We pounded his advertizers with thousands of signatures on many petitions. We owe Ms. Lutz a world of thanks. I hope she sues. Her testimony brought him down. Swiftly, and without anything more than her goal to testify. He has been on the air for so long and he had an audience that participated in his hate. He just underestimated the power of the word, the written word. The result of this campaign to alert advertizers that we would not tolorate his obscene rant resulted in the many that jumped ship. What he found out was that none of his listeners could save him. Everything he had been doing was quite outrageous as he intended. His ego prompted him to continue thinking all the time that he was too powerful to be stopped. The rant he spewed that afternoon was the straw that broke the camels back. We exploded. He didn't even know what she said, or what she was testifying. Had he a smidgen of integrity his personal attacks would never happened. Had he a little intelligence he would have researched more and flapped his lips a bit less. No one can fix this for him. A few have tried. I have heard a comment from a talking head that he just had a slip of the tounge. 70 slurs are not a slip. I bid him a "fond" farewell.

While I wholly love this, it frightens me a bit as well.

I think we need The Fairness Doctrine back.

Rush Limbaugh Scandal Proves Contagious for Talk Radio Advertisers

Ninety-eight major advertisers—including Ford and Geico—will no longer air spots on Premiere Networks’ ‘offensive’ programs. Insiders say the loss will rock right-wing talk radio.

Rush Limbaugh made the right-wing talk-radio industry, and he just might break it.

Because now the fallout from the “slut” slurs against Sandra Fluke is extending to the entire political shock-jock genre.

Premiere Networks, which distributes Limbaugh as well as a host of other right-wing talkers, sent an email out to its affiliates early Friday listing 98 large corporations that have requested their ads appear only on “programs free of content that you know are deemed to be offensive or controversial (for example, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Tom Leykis, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity).”

This is big. According to the radio-industry website Radio-Info.com, which first posted excerpts of the Premiere memo, among the 98 companies that have decided to no longer sponsor these programs are “carmakers (Ford, GM, Toyota), insurance companies (Allstate, Geico, Prudential, State Farm), and restaurants (McDonald’s, Subway).” Together, these talk-radio advertising staples represent millions of dollars in revenue.
