Last week the City of Boston agreed to pay Simon Glik $170,000 in damages and legal fees to settle a civil rights lawsuit stemming from his 2007 felony arrest for videotaping police roughing up a suspect. Prior to the settlement, the First Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously ruled that Glik had a "constitutionally protected right to videotape police carrying out their duties in public." The Boston Police Department now explicitly instructs its officers not to arrest citizens openly recording them in public.Slowly but surely the courts are recognizing that recording on-duty police is a protected First Amendment activity. But in the meantime, police around the country continue to intimidate and arrest citizens for doing just that. So if you're an aspiring cop watcher you must be uniquely prepared to deal with hostile cops.
If you choose to record the police you can reduce the risk of terrible legal consequences and video loss by understanding your state's laws and carefully adhering to the following rules. Detail on rules at the link:
Rule #1: Know the Law (Wherever You Are)
Rule #2 Don't Secretly Record Police
Rule #3: Respond to "Shit Cops Say"
Rule #4: Don't Share Your Video with Police
Rule #5: Prepare to be Arrested
Rule #6: Master Your Technology
Rule #7: Don't Point Your Camera Like a Gun

I never used to believe the cops were this evil. But for the last 10 years we have been fighting for our daughter. The cops did catch her back then with a small amound of drugs, bad, but not as bad as what they did. Each year for 5 years, they filed a new charge based on that one event. Her attorney told her to just plead. Bad decision. She went to a Prop 36 (CA) not once but twice. The cops and courts kept piling things on, saying that in some way she violated her probation. All lies, but the court kept believing them. She went to a Rehab program. Violated on a false police report again. Know that in probation, if a cop takes you in. even if you are proven innocent, you get violated anyway. Back to jail, just to get it over with. The court made an error saying she was to be in 2 courts at the same time - Lawyer actually was, it didn't matter she was Violated anyway and sent to jail for no reason. The police followed her to her school. Intimidated her instructor. Our daughter was told she was terminated. She lost her federal loan, but now without school, she still has to pay it back. The police won't stop, and nothing and no one seems to be able to help. Keep fighting back out there there's a lot of evil with badges.

I've been well aware of how evil the police are ever since I could remember. When I was a baby the cops beat my father so badly he had to have his spleen removed. He had a 10% chance of living, but he pulled through. They even kicked me out of my baby carriage. and stepped on my then 2-or-3 year old sister's head. We sued them and won. While we were suing there was always a cop car sitting right outside of our apartment to intimidate us. We had to move. Police are power hungry alpha male pieces of shit. Most of them.

Have more friends around, who MIGHT be armed, than the local police can easily speedily gather to confront, ( or gather AT ALL ).....for an incident that has not ....YET,..."escalated" to be WORTH their motivation to engage..
Ask the Black Moslems, The hells Angels, or the Black Panthers.
. . . . or a HUGE "old school" Union gathering.
BE BIG. BE MALE. BE POTENTIALLY THREATENING. -and - BE,....a LOT of YOU.
-and FUCK the PIGS. amen.

In a major First Amendment victory, the city of Boston last week agreed to pay lawyer Simon Glik $170,000 in damages and legal fees to settle a civil rights lawsuit stemming from his 2007 arrest - bizarrely, under Massachusetts’ wiretapping statute - for using his cell phone to videotape police roughing up a suspect. Until police figure out that we are, in fact, allowed to openly record their public actions - or as Glik put it, until they "learn the laws they were supposed to know in the first place" - Gizmodo offers seven tips for recording police, from knowing state laws to giving non-threatening answers, without getting (illegally) busted.
