A spate of earthquakes across the middle of the U.S. is “almost certainly” man-made, and may be caused by wastewater from oil or gas drilling injected into the ground, U.S. government scientists said in a study.Researchers from the U.S. Geological Survey said that for the three decades until 2000, seismic events in the nation’s midsection averaged 21 a year. They jumped to 50 in 2009, 87 in 2010 and 134 in 2011.

Oh... wait. You mean there might be geological damage associated with drilling and then pumping chemicals into the ground? This is one of those cases where denial overpowered plain old humanity in my opinion.
...Not to mention fracking... which essentially fractures layers of rock and forces gas upward... Beware of the places where fracking is happening. I'm telling you... parts of middle America are going to sink into a pit of toxified soil in a matter of years at the rate we're going. We're essentially using explosives to tunnel underneath the ground... in order to free explosive and toxic gas. There are also other radioactive elements released into the water table from this process... not to mention the already radioactive and INCREDIBLY toxic fracking fluid... but nevermind that.
It's sick and sad what we're doing to this world... and how readily we deny what is so obvious. We're going to hand a hellish planet over to our children unless we get our shit together.
