Can't watch the video until after work, but being familiar with Mr. Reich and his views on corporate personhood, I am sure he delivers a good message in this one. The ruling elite have created corporations into immortal god-like entities to which we are subservient.. Of course, it is by media and political manipulation that this mass perception of corporations has been achieved. It must be new media and new political discourse that help to dissolve this mass perception.

The notion of corporate personhood goes back a long, long way. In fact it is in the very name "corporation" whose root word is, of course, corpus - Latin for a human body.
The problem, in my opinion, is not quite so much the general notion that corporations be treated for many purposes as effectively "persons" though a better word might be "entity" that can sue and be sued and so forth. It is the notion that because of that "personhood" they are somehow entitled to all of the rights and privileges of real, live human beings. The latter is not and should not be true.
They MUST have the ability, as noted above, to sue and be sued in the courts and administrative agencies. But I see no reason whatsoever that it naturally follows that they should have all the rights set forth in the Constitution. They are not individual human beings.
We can grant them a certain status as an entity so that they can be pursued for producing dangerous goods or for defrauding consumers and so that they can in turn sue suppliers who sell them substandard parts...but IMHO rights such as freedom of speech are reserved for real, living human beings - not for corporate entities.

I hope folks realize that Mr. Reich is not some new discovery. He was a prominent member of President Clinton's cabinet as Secretary of Labor. He is small of stature, which I think causes some to initially underestimate him, but his mind is a thing of beauty.

Truthitswhatsfordinner:
There has always been a certain reluctance in the Democratic Party to be seen as being too close to the Clinton administration because of the long, sad months and years that were marred by the Monica Lewinsky "scandal." OMG, a U.S. President was fooling around with a woman not his wife -- how unprecedented! Only 7 or 8 out of 10 have EVER done anything so SCANDALOUS. That is why Al Gore refused to allow Clinton to take a more active role in the latter's failed campaign against Bush I.
Personally, I think they have underestimated the sophistication of the American people who mostly understand that getting a blowjob from an intern has virtually nothing to do with whether a man is qualified to be President. There is little question, for example, that FDR had at least one woman on the side, and I cannot think of anyone from the time whom I would rather have led the country out of the Great Depression and through the Second World War. Had his presidency been brought down by his "dalliances" I shudder to think where our country would have been in the late 40s and early 50s, let alone today.

...and of course neither Robert Reich nor any of the other talented people with whom Clinton surrounded himself was responsible for Clinton's admittedly poor judgment in pursuing that relationship and being so careless as to get caught. As Americans, I believe we have the right to expect our Presidents to work very hard and to be honest with us regarding the policies they intend to pursue. But expecting them to be inhuman automatons is what gets us candidates like the inestimable (and known cyborg) Mr. Romney...

Corporate person-hood is a very real threat not only to Democracy but to 'civilization' itself! Since Bush v. Gore one is hard pressed to identify ANY thing of any good coming out of SCOTUS.

And the 14 TRILLION DOLLAR question is: Why didn't Obama appoint Robert Reich as director of economic development instead of an executive of one of the world's most corrupt and predatory corporations, Jeffry Immelt? How are former Obama supporters supposed to distill this proof from the pudding he made?

....I assume that was rhetorical, yes? Obama is the definition of a wolf in sheep's clothing when it comes to Dems and Progressives..... He is another corrupt US politician with a GREAT speech writer and excellent public speaking skills....but as a leader, not impressed.
