this is what I expected to see across the country when Obama was elected...glad to see it is beginning somewhere.
You keep saying with the wind turbines Washington has more power than they need. This should soak some of that excess up I would think.

That is what the PEOPLE here want , i believe ... if the entire NATION had a choice to vote on such a plan , they may well want it too .... It is a good plan . IF people had their druthers , the Oil Oligarchs days would have been numbered long ago ...

Range and refueling are serious issues, of course. However power throughput for batteries is improving steadily, and I've heard of a number of breakthrough technologies. Also a hydrogen / electric composite system could help provide flexibility. But who would own these fuel delivery systems? Distributed energy systems supported by innovations from a thousand entrepreneurs would be preferable in my view to another concentrated complex of monopoly providers.

With a 100 mile range for most electric cars (Tesla excluded) ,for now travelling long distances is still not feasible.Imagine travelling 100 miles in a gas powered car,and having to take a 30 minute fill up.
Electric cars/trucks for now are great for the urban/suburban interface, not for long distance driving. With battery improvements in the next few years,a 250 mile range is possible with a 30 minute recharge, this approaches a reasonable recharge/travel distance ratio.

who wouldn't want to stop every 100 miles or so anyway you would have to do the same for gas just about

Indeed ! Avista (the hydo company) keeps demanding the wind farms be shut down because we have a surplus so often .... only about 14% , but still , that is enough to run a few cars !

That is a good question , while i am not 100% happy with the kind of hydro we have here , we also have an ever growing number of wind and solar farms ... you can see them between Seattle and Idaho alongside the freeway . Also I am less than happy with what is called a "waste to energy " plant , an incinerator ... or three ... Still , it is better than many .

We find it easy to imagine the worst case scenario . We are hard wired to do it , so as to avoid trouble and survive , sometimes we are overwhelmed by it and go into denial . It seems more of a challenge to imagine the best case scenario , and then plan so it can come about ....
