During the 1960s and 1970s the UK government expelled the entire population of Diego Garcia in order to make way for a massive US military base from which bombing attacks have since been run on Iraq and Afghanistan.Aurelie Marie Lisette Talate – 19th March 1941 - 4th January 2012 – was a tireless activist for the right of her people to return to their homeland, leading protests and hunger strikes in her unrelenting effort to obtain justice.
Few people have ever even heard of her. Because our media do not report on one of the most outrageous forced mass deportations of our times – described by the International Criminal Court as a crime against humanity.
John Pilger is the exception. In the following articles, he describes the plight of the exiled islanders and the secrecy in which their maltreatment has been shrouded:

Wow, had no idea, and have a friend who was stationed on Diego Garcia. I remember wondering, while he was there, why there were no inhabitants other than military. Great post, thank you.

I'm so pleased that this has already reached a couple of people who hadn't heard about it before -- that was the whole point of posting. I hope you found time (or will later) to read some more of the details in Pilger's articles.

The cycle of humanity, are we not just a lovely species. Americans don't like to hear that the US is such a nasty piece of work.

As a Brit, I have to say the UK doesn't exactly cover itself in glory here either. But at least we know it.

Isn't he just? He's one of my heroes... always digging up the dirt other journalists won't touch.
It's an absolute tragedy -- and carefully kept out of the MSM focus. - 11 months ago

If it has reached only one more person who hadn't heard of it before, I am glad. No doubt you will mention it to a friend or relative or colleague or acquaintance... and so the word will eventually spread.

Indeed it will.
Or at least I very much hope so.
Although this article may not gained have quite as much attention (in terms of "views" and "comments") as some others I have posted, the very idea that it has actually managed to reach a couple of people who were previously unaware of this terrible injustice restores my faith in the possibilities of the internet as a means of countering the self-censorship of the corporate press and its "state stenographers". - 11 months ago
