WILL ZIMMERMAN GO FREE?????

kalamama
I had written something a while back about “Disappointment in my fellow Americans” regarding my complete and utter disillusion that this country had come further than we really have.

I began with this…” In November of 2008, I very enthusiastically cast my vote for Barack Hussein Obama as President of this United States. That was after many months of stumping, making calls and knocking on doors to help this man get into office.

All that hard work myself and so many others put time and energy into paid off. We got our guy elected and I was and still am thrilled that he is our President.

What I am not thrilled about is my disillusion that this country had come farther than what I thought. I have seen and heard so many vile and ugly racial slurs on this man and his family including his beautiful wife and darling two young daughters. Not only were there slurs about them being people of color, but also slurs of our President not really being a citizen, what faith he practices in his choice of church, his “not being white enough” or “black enough”. I had thought that we as a country had come so much further than this and what an utter disappointment that has been.

What I have seen ramped up in fact is the hate and the ugly rhetoric that is being allowed to spew on national airwaves and the number of people who blindly follow that because it is easier for them to believe that this black man is bad, or that he is secretly a Muslim wanting to do harm to our country or that every wrong in this world is somehow his fault rather than accept that life can be hard and that we had 8 very long years of a train wreck that was in office before him. Why would these people accept responsibility for the awful choice of George W. Bush when they can just jump on the hate bandwagon? A simple fact is that if not even half of the ugly rhetoric had been spoken of Bush 2 when he was in office, those people would have been arrested and locked up. Something is very wrong with this picture.

Another disturbing trend that has become so popular among the blind followers is the acceptance of talk about class warfare, gender discrimination, sexual preference discrimination, religious discrimination, and the list goes on.”

What I have seen rise is the levels of hatred based on the above and it has to stop.

We have a Republican party hell bent on taking away women’s rights in this society and taking us back into an entire different time in history. We have a Republican party whose sole agenda is making sure that Barack Obama does not get re-elected again no matter the consequences of “We the people”. We have seen the ugliness come out in full form against gays, with the latest via Chick-Fil-A, We have seen a rise in hate crimes, and the worst….we have seen an acceptance of guns over the last few months and the lack of regulations that may keep a fifteen year old from being able to purchase an oozi on a street corner if they had enough cash.

There was a horrific tragedy on Colorado where a young man was able to “out smart” the system in Colorado by not only ordering ammunition on the internet, but waiting only 5 days before walking into another gun store and purchasing another gun without raising any red flags. Is it the new “norm” to purchase 100 round clips of ammo?? Really?? Then we have a shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin that killed 6 people and critically wounded 3 more. People are shaking their heads and saying “oh, how awful”…”My thoughts go out to the families”, etc.

There is more. I had mentioned in the last rant I wrote about a young woman named Shaima Alawadi, a 32 year old Muslim woman was brutally murdered in her home in San Diego, Ca. There was a note left saying “Go back to your Country, You Terrorist”. She was the mother of five young children, aged 8 to 17. And for what? There is no sane reason this should have happened. Yet another death threat at Huma Abedin (Hillary Clinton’s Aide and wife of Former Rep. Anthony Weiner) . This was courtesy of rhetoric being spewed by an elected congresswoman, Michelle Bachman with false claims against this woman having ties with The Muslim Brotherhood, a part of one of the world’s largest controversial Islamic groups. She never bothered to fact check and she is still talking about it and what’s worse is that people are still listening to it.

That brings me down to an article I just read this morning about the killer of Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman. They are now saying that he will have a new hearing that very well could clear him of all charges in the death of Trayvon Martin IF the judge (no jury) finds that he was in “reasonable” fear for his life. They are going to hold it as a “Stand Your Ground” hearing which may very well let this man who has lied from day one go free. Let us not forget That he had no blood on him the first night when he declined going to the hospital to be checked out. He waited until the next day AFTER talking with his father, a retired State Supreme Court Justice to go to a family doctor. I don’t know about any of you, but if I have my head covered in blood and wait until the next day to seek “treatment”…but, .the first thing I would do is clean up. His story has changed more than once and I am afraid he will walk free and clear because these days it seems money is what talks….People be damned. Here is a link to the story about Zimmerman. http://www.cfnews13.com/content/news/cfnews13/news/article.html/content/news/art...

What I want to know is when did we become quiet people in this country to allow this??

When did any of this become allowed by any of us??

It didn’t, that’s when.

I read, and agree completely that there is a chasm between American values of equality and non-discrimination and incidents of intolerance. I believe that we, as a people need to make our voices louder and stronger than those that speak of hate and violence on a daily basis. We are better than this and it’s time that we come together…stronger than ever before and put an end to these senseless and heart wrenching crimes.

My own belief is the best way to make our voices heard loud and clear is to VOTE out the haters and the liars. Start knocking on doors, talk to your friends, family, and neighbors. Make sure that these people are shut down for good. If we do not do our part in stopping this, then we are guilty as those who blindly follow the inciters. Write, call your Congress person and your Senators and let them know this in unacceptable and they will be held accountable in the voting booth come November.

It is up to us to prove that we are indeed the land of the free, and the home of the brave. The cowards and their blind followers will crawl away if we do our job right and make damn sure that every politician, every blind follower, every news outlet, radio show, etc. knows that we will not back down until this Country of ours lives up to its name. United States of America.

LOVE WINS ( To borrow a phrase from a friend ). HATE WILL LOSE EVERYTIME. We just need to stay on it and call it out loudly.

    • "I very enthusiastically cast my vote for Barack Hussein Obama as President of this United States." So we can thank you for your efforts in installing this disaster. Barry and his ilk are responsible for most of the racial divide in this country today. We are more divided and at each others throats now than even during Vietnam. For that we can than the man you voted for and his followers.

Zimmerman may very well be found not guilty. I would be surprised if he isn't. I think if the judge was more impartial Zimmerman would have walked during the stand your ground hearing. Anyhow, if he is found not guilty, that is justice just as if he is convicted that is also justice.

Barry and his ilk ARE the problem. The class warfare and hatred in this country is worse now because of him/them. His solutions are the wrong direction for this country, the wrong direction for a free and successful people. Happy Sunday.

    • IMHO, this trial epitomizes 'conservative justice in America today'; keep em scared and stupid... and you can get way with anything while getting rich in the process"!

Zimmerman will probably be set free by the same kangaroo justice that allowed such an insane law as 'stand your ground' to exist in the first place. As for all those who believe he will 'never be able to walk the streets again'... you must be joking.

Anyone who's grown up in the deep south can probably tell you about plenty of places where Zimmerman will actually be embraced as a hero for exterminating another person of color. Fact: racism is alive, well, and heavily armed.

Whether this POS goes free or sits in jail for a few years... he'll very likely be offered a small fortune by some rabid media whore to do a book/TV/movie deal that will allow Zimmerman to retire in style behind another gated community with his concealed handguns.

"Fanaticism and ignorance is forever busy, and needs feeding".

Again, you have no idea of the purpose beyond these laws. You are reacting emotionally, not rationally, to a situation in a negative manner for reasons known only to yourself. I suspect that your reasons have something to do with an agenda but that is your problem.
I have repeated, ad nauseam, the rationale behind the stand your ground laws. For some reason many think that defending ones self is not a persons right and campaign for the removal of these laws. The unknowing are so dangerous. They create far more victims than a person with a gun. This country is based on freedom and self defense is a right as is firearm ownership. I don't like your vision and frankly, your thought processes are more dangerous to the people, and wrong, than Zimmerman ever was.

Zimmerman is a paranoiac self named righteous justicier gun lover, the perfect American boy, if he was black, maybe or surely he would be jailed but he's too much of a role model in todays fuck up America to be charged!

Of course, not as ruined as Trayvon's.

Actually, I think that the prosecution will try to force the defense to prove that Zimmerman was indeed in the position to defend himself.

That might be difficult as well since the audio suggests that it was Zimmerman who perused the victim before his was shot.

Some of the most damning evidence against any case Zimmerman might try to make for self defense is the 911 recording in which the operator very plainly told Zimmerman not to follow the person who turned out to be Trayvon, and Zimmerman went ahead and followed Trayvon anyways.

It took millions of pissed off people to get those momos to even charge Zimmerman in the first place. The whole case just sucks, and Trayvon Martin will never get the justice he deserves.

    • I believe we have indeed come further than it seems, as with a wounded animal in it's death throes, the right wing is making all kinds of noises as they slowly fade into the boneyard. All the noise and fury is from a smaller and smaller portion of the population, but the distance left to travel is considerable. One day, and I hope to live to see it, humanity will finally put most of this nonsense behind it.

To my eye, letsliveinpeace has been a fair-minded person. I think that comment was just a slip - a bridge too far. That's not to say that I think all donations to Z are squeeky-clean in their motivation.
I looked for a KKK connection before I replied to you. Found nothing. So there's that.
Frankly, I think O'Mara has his act together and in taking over the donations site was fully aware that money taken from organizations and individuals with unsavory reputations is a really, really bad idea; not just for the Z's defense but for O'Mara personally and professionally.

As for comment voting? Who the hell knows? People are people. You explain a Wacko-Right nut-job shooting up a Sikh temple and I'll explain voting. (Not to imply any association between you and the nut-jobs.)

To my eye, letsliveinpeace has been a fair-minded person..........I agree with you on that its just that the race card is so over played at times its getting old. Many times race has nothing to do with it but it makes for good news.

I also agree that I am sure not all the donations are squeeky clean. It wouldn't surprise me if La Raza.....I think I spelled that right............made a few donations. ( God I hope I don't get called a racist for that statement)

The shootings are unexplainable. They accomplish nothing and in fact have an opposite effect. It makes whites look bad because lets be real, its usually always some nut case white dude that does it. All they do is make their race look bad and allow the GOV to say they need more gun laws.

Thanks for sharing it with us.
Yes, love is far stronger than hate and will triumph in the end.

I hold responsible every far-right politician and religious fundamentalist for the recent shootings. They certainly have a hand in encouraging this behaviour in disturbed people.

I also hold them partially responsible for every case of violence or suicide in LGBT citizens.

But these people are well organized and crazy-passionate about their twisted beliefs, so they get all the media coverage they want. Those who intend to counter them with love also must become crazy-passionate about organizing and spreading their beliefs.

Thanks for your call to action.

    • Excellent article, Kala. It's more than time to get actively involved. Raise a huge ruckus, write to anybody and everybody who might even read it - especially your elected officials! Letters to the Editor can work, if your newspaper can post them on-line.

The main reason the Dems haven't gotten the traction they should, imho, is the very valid perception that many are of the "Ivory Tower" sort, "Coastal Elites", as it were. We have to counteract this perception, and we must take it to the voters - all of them. Every hour spent out on the streets is invaluable - get active, get out, get involved! There are issues that need to be the subject of conversations at every breakfast table in the country, and around every water cooler, and in every bar and coffee shop.

As for allowing this asshat the “Stand Your Ground” defense is an insult to all citizens, HE was the aggressor, HE was the murderer!

I don't think Florida wants to argue specifically against SYG since it's sort of a goofy law passed for show rather than functional need. Indeed, it's arguable that SYG contributed to TM's demise because most everyone thought it was an "absolute". Not quite. Stay in the car = cool. Get out of the car = oops.
