Please sign a petition to allow the third party candidate, Jill Stein, to participate in the Presidential debates

The Commission on Presidential Debates was originally sponsored by the League of Women Voters; however, the Republican and Democratic Parties pushed that organization out and assumed control over the debates, preventing any real challenging questions to the candidates on issues that Corporate America did not wished to be addressed.

Also these two parties would not allow Ralph Nader to participate in these debates even though he was certainly a major candidate, especially to independent voters, and would have discussed the embarrassing issue of too much corporate money in politics and the control of our government by corporate America.

I would like all serious candidates for the Presidency to be included in these debates, including Dr. Jill Stein, Rocky Anderson, Stewart Alexander, Gary Johnson et al.

I started a petition to have Jill Stein included in the Presidential debates. If you feel that the exclusion of other serious candidates is undemocratic, please set up your own petition at Move On and consider signing the petition to allow Jill Stein into the Presidential debates: http://signon.org/sign/allow-jill-stein-to-particip

    • I just signed the petition. There's another petition about Jill Stein and Roseanne Barr. In 2008, Ms. magazine refused to blog about Cynthia McKinney's campaign and Women's Media Center only did one article on McKinney and that was after month's of lobbying and being called out. So as both remain silent on Stein and Barr's runs for president, there's a petition calling for these two feminist outlets to cover these two runs by strong women.

I would like Rocky Anderson also in the debates. His Justice party sets the path for justice, what is so badly needed now.Obama promised justice then as with so much reversed.

The fix ix in folks, but we can dream, and vote 3rd parties as a protest vote.

I voted for Nader last go 'round.

    • Look.... the corporate media has too much invested in the crooked two party scheme that exists now. besides, if you look at the moderators being chosen you quickly come to the conclusion that these debates are a joke. No third voice will ever make it less the fascist nonsense it is!

Rocky is more conservative, especially fiscally, than Jill Stein. She was arrested recently for participating in a sit-in against housing foreclosures. She is the Green Party's nominee. She didn't set up her own party, annoint herself as the nominee, write the party's platform, and assume control of the party like Rocky, someone who says he's fighting tyranny: a little ironic, don't you think?

Rocky is far better than Obama; however, I think that may not be saying very much.

    • I am not in favor of a petition which excludes Stewart Alexander, Gary Johnson, and especially Rocky Anderson.
I will have to research Dr. Jill Stein, as this is the first I've heard of her.
But I'm also certain that the push for her has more to do with her sex than her qualifications and track record.

I'd love to have a female president in the US, but she'd have to be highly intelligent and also tough as nails. -She'd have to be to navigate today's political climate.
      Elizabeth Warren comes to mind.

She ran for Governor against Mitt Romney. She is a doctor of medicine; was arrested for participating in a sit-in against housing foreclosures; is more liberal than any other candidate running, except Stewart.

    • We've been down this road before. I don't think it will ever happen. In fact, it's a good way to ensure change will never happen. I would be interested in watching a third party candidate debate without the GOP and the Democrat. I will be waiting for that one. Who could they find to air such an event? Where could they find an independent media who doesn't bow to MNCs? Who should we think of?

I'm not going to keep pursuing change along the same old lines. If you want to debate then stop waiting for permission and let's have it.

    • Sorry.... I do not agree with this petition. I believe we need to change the election system in this country from top to bottom.
      Instant run-off
      public financing
      mandatory voting
I could go on and on; however given what we have now, you have two people to choose from. Get over it!

By mandatory voting, would there be an option for "none of the above"?

I do not disagree that the electoral system needs to be overhauled from top to bottom. The petition to include other candidates is a very small step in that direction.

Obama may be the more dangerous candidate. If Bush had been present these past four years, and we had drone attacks on civilians, extensions of his tax cuts, estate tax reduction from 55% to 35% and increasing the exemption amount by 1000%, the NDAA, proposals to cut corporate income tax, Romneycare, proposal to cut social security and medicare and medicaid in return for revenue "enhancements", continued military presence in the Middle East over a year after bin Laden's death, etc., I think you would have seen us taking to the streets in protests and demonstrations. But we cut Obama more slack because he has a populist face even though he has a corporate body. Corporate America owns both Romney and Obama. The latter is a tad more liberal socially, which doesn't cost corporate America a dime. Corporate America gives us the illusion of choice and diviides us on wedge issues (divide and conquer) but vets political candidates thoroughly via the party apparatus before nominating them. It even writes and scripts their speeches.

did you know that Obama's two Supreme Court Justices, Sotomayor and Kagan, failed to vote for hearing the Montana United Citizen's Case to rule out big money: so why do you fear just Romney? They are both owned by corporate America. One is just a tad more liberal on social issues.

Failed to veto NDAA; agreed to the "Grand Bargain" to cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid; proposed to lower the corporate income tax by 20%; signed an estate tax reduction on the rich that saved the Walton's family $17 billion; failed to appoint voices of labor, but appointed Wall Streeters, to economic advisor's positions; signing trade deals to ship more jobs overseas; failed to propose a public option; failed to indict one Wall Streeter for fraud; failed...failed...failed to fight for the middle class

I agree: all party candidates. Do you have a candidate in mind? I wanted to be specific but I know Jill is a legitimate 3rd party candidate. Please go to moveon.org and create your petition for your candidate. I will definitely sign it, and so will others.

OK, what are the chances of having 10 candidates at the debates and what kind of debate would that be? Think of the Republican primary debates. Of the "other" parties, the Green and Libertarian parties are most supported (not that they are supported much). So, to my mind, they should be included if for nothing more than for the American people to at least hear someone besides a Democrat (dumb) and Republican (dumber) debate.

    • The S.E.P (socialist equity party) Would do all of these good things and much more, do not be fooled, "green" capitalism is still capitalism, and until you get rid of it, you will still have the same bad outcomes as before, the greens have some good ideas, but those ideas are in fact socialist in nature, therefore, I will not sign.

That is so petty and smug. It is a petition for her to participate in the freakin' debates. It's not a vote for her or the Green Party. Why don't you start one for Jerry White? I'll sign it if you sign the one for Ms. Stein.

We all know she won't win. We all know Jerry White won't win (like any party with the word Socialist in it is going to win in this country). Live in your ideal little dreamland, that's really going to change things.

"EXPROPRIATE THE BANKS AND CORPORATIONS" - LMFAO. Good luck with that.
