Police Shoot and Kill Fresno Man in his yard

Hassan
FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno police are investigating an incident in which officers fatally shot a man who was reportedly firing a shotgun in his front yard.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said Wednesday that officers responded to the single-family home shortly after 9 a.m. after several callers and the man's roommate reported shots being fired.

Dyer said the man in his 20s, whose name has not been released, pointed the shotgun at officers. They responded with a volley of at least 20 shots.

The man's friends told police that he had been depressed lately and wasn't "acting like himself," Dyer said.

Dyer said that police had tried to get a negotiator to intervene.

It was the eighth officer-involved shooting so far this year.
