Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA): Evolution, Big Bang ‘Lies Straight From The Pit Of Hell’

Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) tore into scientists as tools of the devil in a speech at the Liberty Baptist Church Sportsman’s Banquet last month.“All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the Big Bang Theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell,” Broun said. “And it’s lies to try to keep me and all the folks who were taught that from understanding that they need a savior.”
According to Broun, the scientific plot was primarily concerned with hiding the true age of the Earth. Broun serves on the House Science Committee, which came under scrutiny recently after another one of its Republican members, Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO), suggested that victims of “legitimate rape” have unnamed biological defenses against pregnancy.
“You see, there are a lot of scientific data that I’ve found out as a scientist that actually show that this is really a young Earth,” he said. “I don’t believe that the Earth’s but about 9,000 years old. I believe it was created in six days as we know them. That’s what the Bible says.”
Broun — a physician, with an M.D. and a B.S. in chemistry — is generally considered to be among the most conservative members of Congress, if not the most. He drew national attention in 2010 for saying he did not know if President Obama was an American citizen.
In his speech, a clip of which was provided to TPM by The Bridge Project, a non-profit progressive tracker, Broun credited his literal Biblical interpretation with driving his approach to government.
The full 47-minute speech, posted by the Liberty Baptist Church, can be found here.
“What I’ve come to learn is that it’s the manufacturer’s handbook, is what I call it,” he said. “It teaches us how to run our lives individually, how to run our families, how to run our churches. But it teaches us how to run all of public policy and everything in society. And that’s the reason as your congressman I hold the holy Bible as being the major directions to me of how I vote in Washington, D.C., and I’ll continue to do that.”
TPM reached out to a spokeswoman for Broun, but did not immediately receive a response.

Well as someone who claims that things like the big bang and evolution are lies, I think it only fitting that if Paul Broun ever requires medical attention that is based upon any biological science which is itself dependent upon understanding the concept of evolution, that he should make a personal stand against the lies of evolution and refuse said medical attention or treatment.

Rep. Paul Broun has so many skeletons in his closet it's pathetic, all these Republican politicians do is hold up the Bible, and don't believe anything in it, they are total hypocrites, they've never lived up to any principle inside it. Romney is a Mormon and to my understanding for what I read Mormons are not supposed to lie, and Romney is the biggest liar I have ever seen. They're all about one thing, divide, conquer and destroy, this is what they believe. The poor and the troops mean less than nothing to such demagogy.

Thanks MSll. Republicans use the Bible to manipulate voters. They don't believe a single word in it. And there's proof. Actions speak louder than words.

Disturbing to think writings based on 2000 year old or more common core of experiences and knowlege, are literally adhered to. If written today, what common knowlege would be used for learning the message? We should ignore the discoveries over 2000 years? Wouldn't the experiences be a part of creation as well? I for one do not believe in enlightening beliefs that want to return to the dark ages, like the Taliban and Sharia had done in Afghanistan.

It's sad and sick that these same right-wing lunatics are the ones that scream the loudest over the madness of the extremes in the middle-east yet without bating a eyelash spout this same kind of extreme snake-handler lunacy here. (but that's of course -different- it's OUR lunacy! and our lunacy is just plain better! cuz it's white?)

If he was a practicing physician instead of a hack congress creature he would be prescribing "prayer" , consulting a buy-bull rather than a PDR, and would be branded a quack. How did he ever acquire science based degrees if this is the way he thinks?

Just had to post these comments from the site........
"If you were curious, yes, Representative Broun serves on the Science Committee.
Yes, with Todd Akin.
No, this isn't a joke. This is reality. This is the reality of the Republican Party running the House of Representatives."
----------------------------------------------------------
Add that to Bachmann serving on the Intelligence Committee and I get the feeling that somewhere in a dark room someone is laughing his butt off thinking 'Let's put them here, this oughta be fun."
No wonder the House has become a joke.Politics right there with those Reality TV Shows. h
