Berry asks another moderator to go to the tape, BiteMe was suppose to secure a status of forces agreement in Iraq and failed, . Come on guys everybody knew this, and right there on the idiot box the dude's spinning recent history...no congressional investigation required.
Notice that sharp pokie looking thing at the end of that weapon. OKC-3S Bayonet. I reckon Berry should have paid more attention when he was getting those photo ops with the military.

The attack by Romney for the "Apology Tour" was ridiculous. I think Obama was right to distance himself from the ludicrousness of the Bush/Cheney "unilateral" years. The Republicans are just playing into Israeli fears on this issue. But the Israelis have nothing to fear from the president. He was merely trying to open the dialogue up to include all willing nations in the Mideast to overtures of peace. If we can't bring all parties to the table how can we accomplish anything? Wouldn't a lasting and just settlement make the Israelis more secure?

The middle east is a human disaster created/ engineered by the rich and violent "deciders" of the English/ Western empire of greed. Isreal was not meant to be secure but was meant to be in peril. A hostage always in peril to promote the schemes of western "interventionists". The creatures of political power purposely will that no human on this planet be "secure" but by the creatures own favor. And that only temporarily. Dependant upon continued servitude and self abandonment on our part. They have set themselves to be gods. Gods that demand bitter bloody human sacrifice. There is no structure or city we can build that they cannot destroy. There is no human they consider to be anything more than thier rightful domestic help. To them we are each third world and slave dependant in life or death upon thier moods and violent nature. Such is our current human dilema. We are all Isreal . And we are all screwed. Rather than building lasting and meaningfull social structures and institutions we are serveing mad masters who would punish us even for an untoward thought if they even suspect we have one. I have little faith that Freedom will evolve under presant conditions. But I wish it would.

MolliBlum:
Good point. But, in the case of the Palestinians, (who don't control oil reserves), their desire for self government, (and the reclamation of land that they see as having been stolen from them), spurs on underground movements that act out, and are reciprocated upon, by Israel. This endless push and shove, (with deadly consequences), is not predicated on the desire for raw materials. It is a seething problem that has been going on since the creation of Israel. If we don't work this out diplomatically, (if it can ever be worked out), the violence continues, and the region remains in a state of destabilization. To give up is to put ourselves in Bush's corner, (of unilateral military intervention, regardless of the consequences).
What you are saying is that we wouldn't even care except for the oil, (and their is a certain amount of truth in that). But what do you say to Israel about that? Do we have their back or not? And, apart from the Israeli connection, should the United States turn its back on the region?
Obama makes a good point about building up the alliances, and the economic pressure points, and using these methods as a substitute for troop placement. It doesn't always work, but it should be used as a first option. - 7 months ago

MolliBlum:
Another spoke on the wheel of economic imperialism is the rise of China, which now accounts for an increasing amount of raw material acquisition. It will not just be the West that will demand oil from the Mideast. So, to abandon hegemony, (short of getting a more sane energy policy), will be to invite further economic ruin for ourselves. This does not justify the exploitation, it brings it home. Maybe we should all keep our expectations low because it is going to get rougher around here. If we continue on the road we are on it is suicide.
But again, the problems in the Mideast are not so simple. The "Arab Spring" has raised hope, the killings in Syria may give rise to a different radicalism, (other than Muslim dominated). The West, (and China), will be put in the same idealistic boat as the rulers are, (to the downtrodden on the ground). The needs of the poor in many of these countries are not being met. But this takes us back to the president, and his idea of keeping the communication channel open. Without that what will we have? We will wind up on the outside looking in, again. - 7 months ago

We would still care, in spite of oil. It wasn't necessarily oil that was the issue at the time – surely both the Sykes-Picot agreement and the Balfour declaration preceded that interest. It was more about gaining control of the Med seaboard, crushing the Ottoman empire (and with that, its power in the Balkans) and so creating a bulwark against (then revolutionary) Russia. Similar geopolitical strategies still at play even today.

Yes, US imperialism is indeed alive and well.
Not much to distinguish between the two here in terms of their support for war, drones, illegal killings, "intervention" (what a lovely euphemism), lynching other countries' leaders, geopolitical hegemony, global militarism etc.
Lots of tough talk about "taking out" and "options on the table" and using "any and all means" to get their way.
Basically, it seems that anyone who appears to pose a threat to "American interests" (though these, interestingly enough, were never actually defined) is fair game.
On that the two candidates clearly agreed.
Obama did seem to have the upper hand in terms of general knowledge of geography, though -- but that's a purely academic exercise (like chastising a commenter for a typo). - 7 months ago

I disagree. I'm in my 50's and was a conservative in my early twenties. When I began to understand how things like Reaganomics devastated the middle class I became independent with a liberal bias.
The way I see it is this. I don't care if a person is conservative, moderate or liberal. If what that person says is rational and sensible, I'm all for it and they get my vote. Period. Unfortunately almost nothing conservatives have said over the last 30 years makes any sense UNLESS you're a millionaire or billionaire.
Additionally, in an attempt to shore up a flagging base conservatives made two pacts with the devil. The first was aligning themselves with the christian fundamentalist crazies the second was aligning themselves with the Tbagger crazies. The result is both those groups have taken over the GOP and purged it of any remaining rationality and common sense. Anyone who isn't an independent or liberal nowadays just isn't paying attention.

Mitt Romney was not as aggressive as he was in the first debate. He made a gaffe in the second debate when he challenged the President about Libya. Mitt Romney was foolish when he preempted the response of what happened in Libya.
Foolish because Mitt is a private citizen, he is not member of the government. What he says is not official. It was political opportunism from a guttersnipe. It backfired- he doubled down because it took the heat off his taxes.
When he doubled down he bought into talk radio's campaign to discredit the official response of the President of the United States of America about what happened in Libya. Mitt holds no respect for the very office he hopes to win.
Tonight he had his chance to call the President out again, but he didn't. Why?

President Barack Obama mocked Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney on Monday for his repeated attack over the size of the Navy, which he has said proves the president doesn't prioritize national defense.
"You mention the Navy, for example, and that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916. Well governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets," Obama said during the final presidential debate. "We have these things called aircraft carriers and planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines. It's not a game of battleship where we're counting ships, it's 'What are our priorities?'" he said.
President Obama made it clear that his administration sits down with the military forces, including heads of the Navy, to discuss what resources they need.

Tonight America saw a Statesman (Obama) and a salesman (Romney), so it couldn't be clearer that Obama should get a second term for the sake of the country.
Also, being an American who lives outside of the States, I will tell you that the rest of the world loves Obama and his policies, especially after the 'Cowboy politics' of the last administration. Romney would take the country back to those policies because he has 17 neo cons from the Bush Administration as his advisers.

You got that right and Obama will prevent Harper from selling the biggest oil company in Alberta to a Chinese government owned company because America has a say since all the pipelines currently going into the US from this oil company. That is why Harper is waiting until after the election to make his decision. If 'China loving' Romney wins, Harper will agree to the sale. But, if Obama wins he will have no choice but to veto it. This is why this election is as important to Canadians as to Americans.
Remember, Obama wouldn't allow the China government owned company to buy that wind farm in Oregon. He recognizes that it would be a national security issue.

Fact is Obama got us out of Bush's Iraq quagmire and has set a time-line for us to get out of Afghanistan. Given America's near paranoia and a GOP that takes every opportunity to mindlessly obstruct his initiatives simply because they are his, what Obama's been able to accomplish is almost miraculous.
