Voting Obama over Romney the best obvious non-choice? Sometimes, 5% IS the best choice

After a great deal of thought (and reading) I simply cannot vote for Obama, at one point I said I would, because of the fear of a Robme administration, but the fact is, that if we do not confront the two party Plutocracy, things will only get worse, and the only way to do that -short of open revolution- is to install people who are truly progressive, which is why I'll be voting for Jill Stein.I know, just like you know, there is no way in hell she can win THIS TIME, but all she needs is 5% of the vote to get federal funds for the NEXT election, and the way things are right now, rebuilding is our TRUE best hope for the future, as she -in the future- has the best chance of really winning, and she sure as hell is more honest and trustworthy the ether of the current two Plutocratic, corporate lap dogs.
I know that just thinking about 4 years of Robme, scares the hell out of anyone, but if you think that's bad, just think what it's going to be like getting the same Plutocratic "choices" every 4 years, that the CorproFaschest give you if we don't begin, and do this NOW!

I will. Being a believer in innocent until proven guilty, I trusted the current

show his true colors. I won't vote for either Nobama or Romney because
I don't support either of them, and I won't be manipulated by the less worse
BS which dunderkophen espouse. Both are equaly terrible. Imo, Nobama
is the most high profile terrorist in this world. Romney only wants his chance
to draw blood. Gary Johnson is my idea of what a President of the USA as
a country, not a corporation should be. When you think about what Einstein's
alternate parallel universes are all about. And that each one of them reflects
the good and bad choices of the voting population as forks in the road, Gary
Johnson will be President of one of them. The only way to make that a reality
in this version of the multiverse is to do the best we can to make that our
reality. He doesn't have the votes to win now, but if enough support him,
and he spends the next 4 years visibly campaigning, we can put outselves
in that future by making that our universe eventualy, if we have the will.... - 7 months ago

Do you really think that a Romney presidency would Help a third party to become more viable? I think that they would put rules in place that would make it Harder for a third party And make it harder to Vote.
My suggestion is to do like the Tea Party has done with the Republican party and use a new Progressive party campaign to Take Over the Democratic party by replacing the standard Democrats with our Progressive candidates in the “Primaries”. I just feel that it would be Far more successful. I mean, look at what the Tea Party has done to the Republican party. I hate to say it but we could learn from them and use the Tea Party tactics to put Progressives in the office under the Democratic banner. Then we could fight to completely change the system from within. But a R-money presidency would just make things FAR worse! - 7 months ago

An easy thing to do is to check to see if your state is one of the battleground states or one of the red states that are being ignored where the election is also close (Missouri, Arizona, Tennessee, Georgia, Montana). If not, then consider no more - vote for whatever third party you wish.

If Romney gets in while we are "rebuilding" he will destroy every trace of the New Deal. I don't like what I see with Obama either, but within the next eight years I would like to collect my Social Security and I will need my Medicare coverage. I don't have that much time to wait for the coming of the progressive paradise. For the young folks out there I would say that the third party option is a definite must, but support should be built up before the great leap is taken. If it is shown, through polling, and popular reinforcement, that the willpower is present to motivate a movement, than by all means, act on it. I just don't see it in this election. We are not exactly in the midst of a popular uprising, (although OWS gave it all they had).

In a Non-battleground state it makes no difference and voting for a third party may actually help with the overall discussion about policy but in a battleground state it makes a HUGE difference so to Stop the TeaPublican shenanigans we first need to Remove them from office. If voting for a third party candidate allows a TeaPublican to get into office then just how are we going to correct these problems?

I agree with the argument that if one is in a battleground state, voting for any third party candidate (or writing in a protest vote) could have unintended consequences.
I think that the democratic party needs to pay more attention to it's progressive constituency, or they will end up facing them in low level office primaries as candidates for another party.

Yes and your vote along with other progressives could have the same efferct as Perot had on Bush, and Nadar on Gore. This is mostly inconsequential until you get to swing states where it is within the margins and cost one side the presidency. I would as a progressive support love to support Stein as a third candidate. However, until the third party is given equal funding and allowed at all debates, I won't waste my vote sheerly as a protest if it hurts a democrat. We need to branch out of the two party system and have possibly 5 total parties with the democrats, republicans, the green party, the libertarian party, and finally the moderate party as the fifth being a mixture of moderates encompassing attributes from the right and left. I like many feel my values are not being fully represented. Until the Citizen's United decision is not addressed, the number of party's will matter as they will be forced to raise funds through super pacs thus making them beholden to money and nothing has changed. Back to square one.

JanforGore:
Last week Green Party presidential candidate Dr. Jill Stein was arrested, along with VP candidate Cheri Honkala, attempting to get into the presidential debates in Hempstead, New York. This week her fight continues with a lawsuit filed today against the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD), claiming that the CPD, Democratic National Committee, and Republican National Committee, together with the Federal Election Commission and Lynn University, had deprived her of her constitutional rights to due process, equal protection, and free speech, as well as her statutorily protected civil rights.
The lawsuit sought both an emergency court order enjoining tonight’s CPD presidential debate from taking place. According to the lawsuit pleadings, “Dr. Jill Stein is not only equal under the law to the two “major party” candidates, she is better, because she became a viable contender for the Presidency while being discriminated against by the defendants at every turn.”
“Our constitution is supposed to protect us against manipulations of democracy of the kind scheduled tonight, and I hope the court will act now to stop this farce, but either way, we will keep up the fight, and one of these days American elections and our debates will be reclaimed by the American people,” said Stein.
Meanwhile, Free & Equal, a genuinely non-partisan civic organization, is hosting an alternative debate hosted by Larry King tomorrow, Tuesday, October 23 at the Chicago Hilton featuring Dr. Jill Stein, Gov. Gary Johnson and others. Unfortunately, no major cable networks in the U.S. are airing this debate; rather it is being brought to the American people via television by Al Jazeera and Russia Today.
“It shouldn’t be the case that the only TV networks bringing this debate to the American people are based in countries whose political systems are even less democratic than our own,” said Ben Manski, campaign manager for Jill Stein, adding that, “The failure of CNN, MSNBC, and others to broadcast the debate only adds to the global perception that the United States doesn’t live up to the democratic standards it professes.”
Dr. Stein and Ms. Honkala will appear on 85% of ballots on Election Day, and recently polled 2-3% in four consecutive national polls. Furthermore, Dr. Stein is the only presidential candidate recognized by the federal government as a serious candidate, as evidenced by the fact that she alone among general election candidates has qualified for federal public financing.
The presidential debates are the first opportunity for millions of voters to see the candidates themselves, not just their advertising campaigns. Until recently, these debates were exclusively organized by the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) - a supposedly "nonpartisan" entity which is a puppet of and serves the interests of the Democrats, Republicans and the big corporations that fund both of them. The CPD's criteria to be included in these debates is designed to exclude independent presidential contenders who promote ideas that challenge those in power.
Over 14,000 have signed a statement calling on CPD to change its criteria, and repeated public calls for opening the CPD debates have been ignored by that corporation.
“The debates must include every candidate who is on enough ballots to win the White House and who has demonstrated a minimal level of support -- meaning either 1% of the vote in a credible national poll, or qualification for federal matching funds, or both,” reads the statement. “In 2012, the Green and Libertarian party candidates both meet all of these criteria and are both contenders for the presidency…These debates belong to the people, not the politicians or Wall Street.”
Free and Equal Election's Alternative Debates will be available live online, streaming from http://freeandequal.org/live on Oct. 23 and Oct. 30 at 9:00 PM EST. More information at: http://action.freeandequal.org/debate-rsvp/

What these third party candidates need to do is actually build their party. You can't run a third party candidate for president and expect to do anything. It's a waste of money for a 3rd party. If these parties are serious about making a difference they should try to gain a foothold in a state assembly or two that is sympathetic to the message of the party. Then when they have a real presence in a few states, then try to bust into the national scene with a few congressional races and then a senate race or two.
The 3rd parties need to face the fact that they are not even distractions on the presidential level, other than playing the occasional role of spoiler. But, just think of the difference just 15 Green Party congressmen/women could make! Add in a few Libertarians and suddenly a congressional majority is no longer a majority! Then congress would have to actually hash things out instead of stonewalling each other.
To me that's worth a hell of a lot more than a pipe dream of getting 5% of the presidential popular vote. So, if you actually care about the Green Party, or the Libertarian Party, or the Socialist Party, or whatever party, donate your time and ideas and try to get your party focused on a realistic goal, where they can actually make a positive difference. Please don't screw us all by accidentally helping Romney get elected.

Cannot change 236 yrs of tradition overnight. Unless you want to crash test the nation. The first hindrance for other parties, is a level campaign field. Rescind PAC and super PAC contributions, and limit campaign expenditures like Britain.
Restrict media ads. Then we wont be driven nuts. Those objectives should be tackled first. This time I will vote for Obama. If he is a plutocrat, he has not ingratiated himself to the majority of that club. I liked this analysis of his character......

Romney and Obama agree on drones... UNCONSCIENABLE.
Showing the debate with inclusion.
Obama: "We have to stand for democracy"... In egypt... what about calling for that in our own country when it comes to debates? When it comes to peaceful protesters not being imprisoned for protesting drones killing innocent people? Both of them sound like imperialist warmongers who think the US runs the world and space to militarize it.
Shame Rocky Anderson and Jill Stein are being shut out. They are making sense regarding how we bring about peace and this government standing up for the rule of law.
Mentioning indefinite detention... right of assasination...military/industrial complex... we need to finally stand up to these wars... a foreign policy based on human rights and climate justice.
Both Jill Stein and Rocky Anderson mentioning the climate crisis and trade agreements continuing to hurt American workers.
OK- now we get to the line: Obama: we will stand with Israel if they are attacked. I'm sure Romney will concur. Threatening talk about Iran as well. SOS. "All options on the table."
Oh my, Rocky Anderson and Jill Stein make so much sense. Americans are fools for voting out of fear.
Jill Stein: "We have a slave like" mentality towards Israel. "We need to hold them acountable as well to international law."
Where's the question on global warming? Jill Stein mentioned its connection with war and the military.
Jill Stein mentioning Fukushima, nuclear waste , NPT.
Talking about AIPAC... you won't hear that from them.
Romney: Out of Afghanistan by 2014... After the pipeline is built is what he should have said.
Rocky Anderson and Jill Stein telling truth about this war and coming home...talking about drones...empire building putting our children's future in jeopardy.
Shame on Current for blacking out these candidates.
