The Do Nothing Congress: A Record of Extremism and Partisanship
October 25, 2012

For over 600 days, Republicans in Congress have kicked the can down the road on critical priorities – focusing instead on partisan politics. It has gotten so bad that two noted non-partisan scholars wrote that the extremism and partisanship of Republicans in Congress “makes it impossible for the political system to deal constructively with the country’s challenges.” That’s exactly what has happened while Americans continue to wait for action on middle-income tax cuts, a jobs bill, the Farm bill, and the Violence Against Women Act.

To get an idea of just how extreme the Republican Congress has become, read this list of 60 votes on final passage, amendments, and motions to recommit House Republicans have taken during the 112th Congress that hurt middle class Americans and weaken the country.

Actually I have already posted it in other comments, it just depends on who pays attention to it.

      http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/10/24/1149340/-1-20-2009-Paul-Ryan-Plotted-To...

" FACT 1. In Robert Draper's book, "Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives" Draper wrote that on inauguration night, 2009, during a four hour, "invitation only" meeting with GOP Hate-Propaganda Minister, Frank Luntz, the below listed Senior GOP Law Writers literally plotted to sabotage, undermine and destroy America's Economy.

FACT 2: Draper wrote the guest list included: Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)
Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) Newt Gingrich

FACT 3: Newt Gingrich confirms meeting took place in an interview with Al Sharpton's Politics Nation on June 12, 2012 "You will remember this day...you will remember this day the seeds of 2012 were sown."

FACT 4: Two months after Paul Ryan's covert meeting where they plotted to sabotage the US Economy, in March 2009, Rep. Pete Sessions said Republicans should follow the model of the Taliban in its battles against President Obama.

"Taliban Insurgency, we understand perhaps a little bit more because of the Taliban. Insurgency is the way they went about systematically understanding how to disrupt and change a person's entire processes. And these Taliban -- is an example of how you go about to change a person from their messaging to their operations to their frontline message. And we need to understand that Insurgency may be required when [dealing with] the other side"

FACT 5: Also, at the January 20, 2009 meeting they plotted to suddenly stop supporting any Stimulus Legislation, even though, they all supported Bush/Cheney Stimulus legislation.

At the meeting, Rep Kevin McCarthy said,
"We've gotta challenge them on every single bill."

"Show united and unyielding opposition to the president’s economic policies."

FACT 6: Remember, these same Republican members of Congress supported the very Bush/Cheney policies that caused America to teeter on the brink of the 2nd Great Depression and caused the 2007 US Economic Meltdown.

Supported Bush/Cheney keeping cost of two wars out of the Budget.

Supported Bush/Cheney spending $4Trillion while giving Top 1% Tax Cuts; ignoring the fact that taxes pay for wars. Not only did these Senior members of Congress plot to destroy the American Economy more than it already was destroyed? They actually carried out their mission

FACT 7: Last year, during the Debt Ceiling negotiations, Eric Cantor and Sen. Jon Kyl abruptly walked out of negotiations and refused to renew discussions with Democrats. As a result, America's credit rating was lowered which put a smile on Republican's faces.

FACT 8: Meanwhile, the 2009 Sabotage the U.S. Economy covert meeting members, Senators: Jim DeMint, Jon Kyl, Tom Coburn, John Ensign, and Bob Corker have: Filibustered more Bills (over 300) than any Congress combined in US History.

FACT 9: The House members who attended the 2009 Sabotage America meeting have been busy rejecting legislation that helps victims of natural disaster.

Representatives: Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy, Rep. Pete Sessions, Jeb Hensarling, Pete Hoekstra and Dan Lungren have voted NO on every single piece of Legislation including: NO on increasing FEMA during natural disasters.

FACT 10: Paul Ryan and these other same failed Congressmen have been on tv constantly chanting the lie that they were guilty of ... the lie that "President Obama's policies undermine the US Economy."

    • The Republicans have been laying out their "vision" for America for years...read the RCC record...nothing has changed...It is amazing that American's voted for Obama in 2008 and then hamstringed him with a Republican controlled HR and obstructionist Senate...this election is even more critical than in 2008--not only for POTUS, but for the HR and Senate, SCOTUS, as well as individual state elections...a straight Democratic ticket vote is the only way to go if this country is to survive with any semblance of the core values we've always espoused...

    • After the elections, The Dems will still have a slim Senate Majority, The GOP will still block everything and filibuster 24/7 , plus , should he be reelected, try to make Obamas 2d term a failure like they did the 1st term. The Gop will still control the House and have the same line up of obstructionists and Tea Baggers as before...in short...nothing will change in the next 4 years. Nothing will drastically change IN MY LIFETIME. It's that bad. And you can blame one single political party. The Regressive Republican Party would be that party.

    • There have to be consequences for their reckless actions, if the Congress doesn't "represent" the interests of their constituents then they have to pay the price for it.

To put it in nautical terms, isn't it mutiny to try to sink the ship, just to force the crew to replace the captain? That is the same thing McConnel was doing when he put replacing Obama above the needs of the country and should be held accountable for that.

      http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/10/24/1149511/-Why-aren-t-Republicans-being-t...

"Mich McConnell laid out his party's cynical strategy like this: "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

Why isn't Republican economic sabotage the number one issue of this election? Like it deserves to be!

The GOP's zealotry on tax cuts is only matched by its zealotry in pursuing austerity policies. In the spring of 2011, federal spending cuts forced by Republican legislators took much-needed money out of the economy: combined with the 2012 budget, it has largely counteracted the positive benefits provided by the 2009 stimulus.

Subsequently, the GOP's refusal to countenance legislation that would help states with their own fiscal crises (largely, the result of declining tax revenue) has led to massive public sector layoffs at the state and local level. In fact, since Obama took office, state and local governments have shed 611,000 jobs; and by some measures, if not for these jobs, cuts the unemployment rate today would be closer to 7%, not its current 8.2%. In 2010 and 2011, 457,00 public sector jobs were excised; not coincidentally, at the same time, much of the federal stimulus aid from 2009 ran out. And Republicans took over control of Congress.

Unfortunately many Americans automatically hold the sitting President accountable for the strength of the economy, regardless of of the near complete obstruction of anything beneficial to economic growth by the opposition party in Congress. President Obama needs to call out Republican obstruction more forcefully."

True. Especially calling out the opposition more forcefully. You can't counter bullyism with platitudes. Had Obama had Joe Green, of "You Lie" at the State Of The Union Address, physically removed detained and discliplined, plus showing a little spine at other times, perhaps there would be a different story. I personally feel that the Dems thought the GOP had actually won the election and were too afraid of them to put up a fight.

      http://i1.cpcache.com/product/708017025/guillotinecomplacency_yard_sign.jpg

What's even worse is the hypocrisy of Joe Wilson, not admitting his outburst while condemning others for it. It's the same delusion of projecting their flaws onto other and accusing them of what they do themselves.

      http://www.cafepress.com/powerpeons.708017025

If they aren't going to take responsibility for their action then harsher methods would be necessary to "rein in" their insanity for "being a danger to themselves and others" to return "power to the peons" and "guillotine complacency"

      http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/10/15/1144961/-Joe-You-lie-Wilson-says-accusa...

"Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) was the congressman who in 2009 shouted "you lie" to Obama while the president was delivering a speech to a joint session of Congress. In an interview with Fox News on Monday Wilson criticized accusations by the Obama campaign that Romney and Ryan had plainly lied during their debates against Obama and Vice President Biden, respectively.

"Indeed on the House floor was inappropriate. That night I had a discussion with Rahm Emanuel that we would discuss the issues. And that’s what we’ve been doing," Wilson said. "But, truly, I think it’s inexcusable for the highest levels –Plouffe, Axelrod — the statements that are being made, and this is being thought out. It’s not spontaneous and it’s just not true. The American people truly do see that Mitt Romney has a positive plan to create jobs in our country."

Got that? A member of Congress interrupting the president during an address to Congress by screaming "You lie!" is merely a discussion of the issues, albeit an "inappropriate" one. Besides, he was just being spontaneous. However, a political campaign pointing out that the opponent is lying (as has been noted by every fact-checker on the planet)? Inexcusable because Obama sucks and the American people and jobs and blah blah bunch-of-bullshit blah. "
