Wealthiest Kissed, Weakest Kicked: Obama's Ugly 'New Deal' Offers to Cut Social Security

President gives away the store in fiscal negotiations. Reports indicate that Obama has willingly affronted public opinion, sound economics, and his political base of supporters by agreeing to make significant cuts to Social Security, health programs, education, and other programs while at the same time making some of the most odious benefits for the nation's financial elite permanent. http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2012/12/18

    • It's called "compromise". Both sides are giving up up things they hold near and dear to the their heart for the greater good.

    • Some say SS retirement has a COLA feature, but the COLA amount is added to the medical costs, your rent and to about everything you purchase. Thus, the COLA(multiplied by X number of cost centers) reduces you wealth each year. Now, this...

      Reality check:

I'm skeptical they're all living on cat food. I just went to a little strip-mall cafe near my job. It was full of "old people". At this cafe, I observed that a small cup of soup (probably from a can of Progresso) was over $4! I could make that soup at home for less than a quarter of that cost. I left that cafe without buying a thing; I can't afford those prices, but apparently all the "old people" could because they're the only patrons that support the place.

    • He has not reasoning to cut SS benefits since it's pays for itself at least for the short term.

He could have people making over a threshold pay more SS tax.

    • No "deal" Mr. President! MORE taxes on the 1% and corporates, it's long past time they started actually paying something back for their obscene profits! MORE CUTS to military industrial & crony contractors! Long past time we stopped being the unpaid policeman to the world, causes us no end of trouble and we can't afford it even if it was something we should be doing!

Go ahead and garnish *all* the income and *all* the savings of the wealthiest in America. Then crunch the numbers on the back of an envelope, and you'll see that won't even put a dent in our massive deficit issues. America has a *spending* problem by far. Either Medicare/Medicaid, the biggest contributer to our deficit, must be cut significantly, or we end up like Greece. Period. This isn't a partisan issue, it's a reality issue.

    • The ' fiscal " cliff is only another hoax perpetrated by the Rothschild's
Federal Reserve flunkies who last year told the Big G whorehouse:
" The Social Security Act is only words on paper " . King snake Bernanke
should know: their essentialy counterfeit currency is only numbers on
paper. Read wbradleyjr1's now running news article written by a former
Treasury official entitled The Fiscal Cliff Is Only a Diversion: The
( Banksters' ) Derivatives Tsunami, and the Dollar Bubble " which
exposes this publicized show business act as merely more pandering
to the uber rich .0001%. Not the 1%, the ,0001% who take in more
moola than all the remaining 1% combined. To fathom what I mean,
look at the back of the dollar bill and check out the top pyramid, keeds.
The so called " fiscal cliff " bullshit invented by saboteur Berrnanke
only amounts to a paltry 3% of their budget. C'mon, realy now. Haven't
you ever wondered why these social programs which add 0 to their
deficits, and the bogus Fed owned national debt absorbing them,
are somehow the alleged " problem ". THEY'RE THE PROBLEM !!!
Don't let those crooked cocksuckers pull the wool over your eyes,
even if they do play your for suckers. Say Baaaaaahhhhhh now...

lol, if it's not a right-wing nut then it's a left-wing nut. I don't even know what you're trying to say. Everything you just wrote sounds more like a garbled up rant than a rationally thought out comment.

Culdee, Start your history search with the "Rothschilds", but take your time. Now, think about the concept of "too big to fail". Currently, Britian is mulling over the impact of breaking up it's "too big to fail" banks and the types of investments they can make. After and if they do, we'll probably follow suit with something similar. We are talking about a five year span. IMHO. If you just think what big bucks has spent in this election, wait for 2016.

As far as the right vs left wing nuts go, (think about what PressCore is saying) the threading of the bolt is what matters...

    • I'm going to with hold my opinion for now. All I can say is Obama should be as stubborn as Boenher is. If the GOP is willing to take us over the fiscal cliff Obama should call them on it. He has the moral and popular high ground for getting rid of Bush's tax cuts to the wealthy and NOT cutting SS or Medicare. So if the economy crashes as a result of GOP intransigence, the GOP and not Obama will take the hit. The GOP would be lucky if they could win a position on the local school board after that. But I'll let this play out before I pass judgment.

Still, you know what really pisses me off about this? If government defunded SS and Medicare tomorrow, you'd have every GOP member of Congress screaming that Obama had abandoned the poor. Then they would propose to hand both former programs over to the private sector, you know like health insurance. Once the private sector got their grubby little paws on it the FIRST thing they'd do is raise payments thereby abandoning a very large percentage of the population those programs were created to protect.

You are so right Mark, and I thought of this as well. With these cuts to SS & Medicare the GOP would do exactly as you said. This would be their rallying point for the next presidential election, and they would be right!

    • We all saw this coming right? This is exactly what I said was going to happen. People who still use the word "caved" to describe Obama's complicity still aren't getting it.
