You’ll recall the first ground rule for the press conference was established by NRA President David Keene before he introduced LaPierre: The NRA was going to ignore reporters’ questions until Monday. The words “until Monday” are key.Public relations professionals, press agents and political spokespersons try to avoid announcing bad news until late afternoon Fridays. They hope the bad news will be less apt to get attention or generate discussion over the weekend. They hope by Monday, the story will be running out of legs because the weekend has defused it.
After a week of silence, LaPierre and the NRA knew they had to say something before gun control advocates took ownership of the discussion about preventing another Sandy Hook slaughter. No matter when the NRA brass crawled out of their spider hole, they were going to have to face the blinding media light.
Obviously, the “quiet until late Friday” trick was doomed. The delay in answering questions until Monday, though, is a deliberate move. Monday is Christmas Eve. Tuesday is Christmas. LaPierre and Keene hope the weekend and the holidays will give them time to regroup and mitigate the damage from LaPierre’s ranting.

We already had restrictions on automatic weapons, and they expired. Notice the slight incline in mass killings? We need re-up the ban on automatic weapons and large clips for semi-automatic rifles.
I would like to see psychiatric evaluations as a requirement for a person purchasing weapons in excess of 2. An IQ test wouldn't hurt, but I believe in darwinism, so if their stupid enough to kill themselves, that's one less idiot.

Actually, you are a little off there. Automatic weapons have been banned since 1986, under president Reagan. It is still possible for citizens to aquire automatic weapons, but they must file a form with the ATF, wait 6 months to a year, and pay a $200 tax stamp. Oh yea, the weapons must also be made/imported before 1986, and cost upwards of $10,000.

Since when? There is no ban on automatic weapons but the .process for aquiring them is rather lengthly in addition to the cost. As a class they are virtually never used in crime. - 5 months ago

I'm looking for an AR upper:
14.5" barrel with a flash supressor, free float tube, A2 front sight is ok but I would prefer flip up front and rear sights, flat top receiver, chrome chamber and SS barrel, 1/7 twist. Anyone have one for sale or know of anyone who has?? - 5 months ago

DPMS may have what you want. I know nothing about AR's but have been reading a little sense Morgan has been running his mouth. If I buy one I think it will be a Colt.

I walked into my local gunshop the other day. They usually have about 10 AKs, and 20 or 30 ARs. And thats not counting what they have in the back. I was shocked to see their black rifles completly sold out. Everyone is sold out, but if you look on gunbroker.com you will find some ridiculously over-priced items. I'm sure they have what your looking for, but you'll get butt-taped price-wise.

I have seen some complete uppers but people are wanting $850+ for them, a ridiculous price. .223 ammo is getting close to a dollar a round. Also ridiculous. I don't need one that bad and I am not really a fan of the .223. I'll just wait and see.

Without the public being well armed, including with automatic weapons, a corporatized military takeover of this country is likely to occur and would result in hundreds of thousands of deaths of the innocent public.
Yes, some people sometimes kill other people senselessly, sometimes using automatic weapons, sometimes using bombs, sometimes using poison gas...
Strip the people of those weapons, appropriate to the type of weapons that would be used against us if we are compelled to defend ourselves in the way our founding fathers anticipated we would be forced to do, and we throw away the very country our founding fathers laid down their lives to create and give us. To do so is to throw away the baby with the bath water.
Only automatic and powerful weapons can adequately protect us from the greatest threat to our country, the internal threat, a rogue corrupt government or corporatized military coup. Banning assault weapons would be a forced march towards slave labor and death camps, Auschwitz style, like George Bush's grandfather organized during WWII in Germany.

From what I have been reading the NRA is experiencing record membership increases. LaPierre showed class and good judgement in waiting a week to comment unlike the gun nut left who are politicizing the issue to try and pass their agenda of rendering the people defenseless and violating their civil rights.

One thing that will cause an increase in NRA membership is the Newspaper putting reg'd gun owners name and addresses in the paper, this is one reason that NRA has been against gun reg. After that stupidity by that Newspaper it will be near impossible to get anyone to reg a gun even if the law is changed.

The list of 2012 Presidential and Congressional candidates (D & R, but mainly R's-including Romney!) who donated thousands of dollars TO the NRA, rather than the other way around!(A Protection Racket, indeed!):

Tone deaf LaPierre is a heartless human being. I'd tie him to a chair and make him look at the crime scene photos of those babies who were killed and then ask him how he can say that his profiteering greedy need to sell as many weapons and large capacity magazines as possible is worth their lives?

The only way they can reverse the damage of LaPierre's Friday speech is to wheel him out lashed to a two-wheel cart with a muzzle over his mouth Hannibal Lecter style and stand him next to a more sane spokesman who will present some meaningful solutions.
