God died. The seas of metaphysics were limitless again. A new horizon of possibility opened for all beliefs and ideals. Values were re-evaluated, re-molded, re-constructed – and each new value was made in the image of its creator: the individual self.-

Intesting article, although I think the author used the term Individualism too broadly.
There is the type of individualism where one thinks for themselves, and relies not on dogma, but experience to determine a subjective formula for right and wrong. This is about tapping the creative self, the individual experience. This type of individualism, I personally see as being good.
Then, there is the Ayan Rand type of individualism, where every person is out for them selves, and does not care about the outcome for others. This is the type of behavior that defines pure Capitalism as pure Individualism, and Communism (Maxist Communism, not Soviet) as the polar opposite. Soviet Communism was not even Communist, it was State Monopoly Capitalism. When applied to this definition of (Ayan Rand) Individualism I agree with the author.
If one is to draw a critique of Individulism I feel it is important to define the distinction between the two.

I'm confused. I thought Individualism was a good thing and herd mentality was bad. I thought a person should develop his /her own individual personality traits in order to fully develop free thinking. Whaddap, hommie u b changing the rules ? Isn't that THOUGHT CONTROL /

I think you're correct, WagonMaster. The "herd mentality" is never a good thing.

We are all related. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxwG8RxQ5Zc )
Individualism ends in a form of natural selection. Like how we still are now.
Nature does not have individualism, nor budget cuts or cliffs!
Well the big dinosaurs did once & they died!
Animals rely on each other to make it!
They adapt & evolve at the slightest change.
You will think nothing will stop them. But yet they are like a team
as they go along, relying on each other or go as packs.
Like they are fragile. And here we are as individualist, how long have we been here?
New age? There is nothing new about it! It's the dark ages then
& now we are in that keeps us in a bad life.
We are doing it! It's time to open the door, get out of the dark ages! - 5 months ago

Fascinating! Bill Hicks said it best towards the end of the video (at 7:55 mark).

Yes and yes. We ARE all connected, every living thing - life itself is fragile.
Very lovely post, appreciated for the insight, WalmartRamen. - 5 months ago

Religion might be looked at as--we're a team--these are our colors---and many hands make light work--so let's all row together--like the Princeton crew. Ah but that's the rub. . . make light work of what???? Peaceful building and repair of the matrix that sustains your young. . .or a pillage economy based on making war on others? Hence the two edge sword of religion. Whatever the choice--religion keeps everybody on the same page (of the Sacred Texts).
