Yep, real people that we have all invested time and energy getting to know, community. It would be sad to lose that.

Give yourself time to learn the path there. Software may seem intimidating to some who have not done those more flexible forums. It's a bit like Democratic Underground software if you have ever ventured to that site; I like that I can change the appearance when I have signed in. I can pick a scheme that works for me. The white on black of the basic appearance is a bit hard on my old eyes, but signed in, I get to pick the appearance that works for me and that is good.

Al Jazeera already has a strong tradition of “citizen journalism” (think: Arab Spring) so it would not surprise me at all if they were supportive of continuing the user-generated content. It’s a slightly different kettle of fish, admittedly. But, we’ll see. I'm optimistic.

Not sure why some people are so fearful of Al Jazeera -- the American establishment and corporate media certainly are... but that's precisely what makes it interesting.

Interesting indeed. I try to watch overseas news sources to see what other cultures think about current events and of us. So I for one am very curious about AJ and what changes they will make.

Lots of folks knee jerk reaction to change is fear, but I agree with your "let's wait and see approach" and then if the put the kabosh in some way on this forum we can come up with a site we all can bail to and meet up.

Yes, well, Al Jazeera is not really renowned for its entertainment factor, if that's what people are looking for. They're not exactly a bundle of laughs. But for straight-up, top-notch journalism and breaking news, it's pretty good, and will certainly shake up the US media landscape (if somebody gives them a platform now that Time Warner has chickened out)

I'm actually quite surprised at the many negative responses to the AJ buyout.
You'd think "liberals" and "progressives" would be jumping for joy at the idea that an organisation so hated by the US corporate media is getting any kind of foothold...

They can always stream on the Inet. I don't watch Current TV programming because Comcast charges extra for it. So I just come here by the Inet.
