A comparison of the falling popularity of Fox News and it's negativity in reporting vs. the massive gains in viewership of those who have led the fight against the Fox Propaganda and Lies Machine. Looks good !

    • You liberalist. Always spreading your propaganda. Just like Obama always blaming the other person when it's your own insecurities. Can you get a badge for most votes down. That's what I want.

    • If this trend continues and Murdoch is the kind of guy I think he is (a cynical opportunist) then we can expect to see FAUX News become more liberal. Murdoch goes where the advertising dollars are. If pandering to a more liberal audience stands to make him richer than pandering to the wing-nuts then FAUX News will become more liberal.

    • For some reason you seem very upset with Fox. You have used Media Matters as a source for your attacks and now this. If Fox is so dishonest and bad why do you watch it? You will have a difficult time convincing me that your campaign is due to your zealous advocacy of some sort of truth in the media as you see it. Fox is much better than MSNBC, or any of the other alphabet news agencies. Did you rail against the NY Times or CBS when they were scribbling or broadcasting what were actual lies? I think you are a shill for media matters and that putz Soros not to mention a firm adherent to the liberal kool aid b.s. YOu guys seem to have a large problem with anyone who does not support your statist position. Is Fox perfect? NO but I don't expect any of them to be. Your post is emblematic of the divide your side has created in this country as well as a shinning example of the intolerance and hate of liberalism. Sorry guy but I got to give you a thumb down.

"..why do you watch it?" Hey, parasiteus -- what the hell makes you think Kennymotown (or anyone else on this thread, aside from you) watches it?

And you say Fox is "much better" than other news sources .... but you're overlooking that Fox itself says that it is NOT a news source. Testified that in Federal Court, too (and won that case). According to Fox itself, it is not a news agency --- it has no legal obligation to tell the truth --- it can knowingly provide information it knows to be false, too.

    • May 2012 study says Fox viewers least informed. People who listen to NPR and watch the Daily Show best informed:

Another study has concluded that people who only watch Fox News are less informed than all other news consumers.

"Researchers at Fairleigh Dickinson University updated a study they had conducted in late 2011. That study only sampled respondents from New Jersey, where the university is located. This time, the researchers conducted a nationwide poll.

The poll asked questions about international news (Iran, Egypt, Syria and Greece were included) and domestic affairs (Republican primaries, Congress, unemployment and the Keystone XL pipeline.)

The pollsters found that people were usually able to answer 1.8 out of 4 questions on foreign news, and 1.6 of 5 questions on domestic news, and that people who don't watch any news were able to get 1.22 of the questions on domestic policy right.

As the study explained, though, people who watched only Fox News fared worse:

The largest effect is that of Fox News: all else being equal, someone who watched only Fox News would be expected to answer just 1.04 domestic questions correctly -- a figure which is significantly worse than if they had reported watching no media at all. On the other hand, if they listened only to NPR, they would be expected to answer 1.51 questions correctly; viewers of Sunday morning talk shows fare similarly well. And people watching only "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" could answer about 1.42 questions correctly.

Other networks also did badly in some sections; MSNBC viewers and Fox News viewers both fared worse in answering international questions than people who watched no news.

People who only listened to NPR or watched Sunday morning talk shows or "The Daily Show" did the best in the study."

Love the Daily Show. I laugh so hard sometimes that tears run down my face. But, it's a real shame when a program that is classified as comedy actually does a better job of covering the news in the States. Still like MSNBC though and I feel that between CBC News, MSNBC, and the Daily Show I am more informed then many.

    • There is absolutely no comparison to MSNBC and FOX Fake News. For those people who say that there is no difference, apparently they don't watch MSNBC.
IT's about time that the American people recognize that Fox is the propaganda arm of the Republican Party. Fox became extremely rich from race/fear mongering, lies and deception. This is their only claim to fame, and the primary reason for their success up until now.
Now that the cat has been let out of the bag, they have been exposed for who they truly are, a tabloid wannabe news organization, and rightfully so. Their owner Rupert Murdoch is the king of tabloid journalism.
On the other hand MSNBC, has several popular partisan shows, however, they are entirely different. They don't make up their news stories, they only report on them.

“There is absolutely no comparison to MSNBC and FOX Fake News.”

Except when you compare how well their viewers are informed about national and international events. By that measure they’re both at the bottom, with no other organization between the two.

“Fox became extremely rich from race/fear mongering, lies and deception”

And MSNBC is trying to cash in on that success by copying their idea. Rachel Maddow freely admitted numerous times she respects the hell out of Glenn Beck on a professional level. Her show is a carbon copy of his save the black chalk board and the tears. Hell Al Sharpton sat in front of a camera and boldly promised to never criticize President Obama on his show.

MSNBC is not a legitimate news agency. They do however make up a significant portion of the joke which is American partisan fake news. On an international level no one respects either MSNBC or FOX and that’s not changing no matter how wide the partisan gulf grows.

That is completely false. Unlike Fox viewers, MSNBC viewers know that President Obama is a Christian who was born in America. They know that he graduated from Harvard Law School at the top of his class. Fox viewers think that he is a dumb Muslim born in Kenya.
They know that he lowered their taxes, and that he wants to keep grandma/grandpa/Jr healthy, opposed to throwing them from the train.
For anyone to say that MSNBC viewers are less informed about national events is an exaggeration/fallacy. They report the same news as the other credible MSN does. The only difference is that they have partisan political shows.
This sounds like a bad attempt of right wing propaganda to equalize the two organizations, just to confuse the viewers.
Just because "Rachel Maddow freely admitted numerous times that she respects Glenn Beck on a professional level", isn't proof of anything.
Unlike Beck, she is a well educated, brilliant journalist that educates her audience. Her shows are based on facts, not bullshit. You got to be kidding, when you accuse her show of being a carbon copy of his. I don't see her globe trotting for fame and fortune, nor is she deceiving her viewers by selling a bunch of junk, just to line her greedy pockets. She doesn't take advantage of their ignorance, or benefit from their lack of information.
In fact no one on MSNBC is anything like the characters at Fox. Be honest with yourself, to say that Al Sharpton's promise of loyalty to President Obama is the same as out right lying on his opponents, is disingenuous.
I oppose many things about MSNBC/MSM in general, however, to paint Fox/MSNBC, and their viewers with the same brush, is absurd!

      “That is completely false.”

Actually no it isn’t and few polls have been conducted and MSNBC and Fox viewers in both instances were shown to less informed than almost everyone else.

“Unlike Fox viewers, MSNBC viewers know that President Obama is a Christian who was born in America. They know that he graduated from Harvard Law School at the top of his class. ….opposed to throwing them from the train.”

From a logical standpoint this makes no sense whatsoever. Being able to correctly identify the imaginary stuff President Obama believes in doesn’t actually make you informed. Most of the WORLD knows Obama is a Christian and they don’t even watch MSNBC. Plus this holy grail of knowledge certainly hasn’t helped MSNBC viewers become more informed than talk radio, The Daily Show, Sunday morning shows, or NPR listeners. In fact when you compare both domestic and international knowledge MSNBC viewers score even lower than individuals who don’t watch or listen to anything. That’s pretty pathetic.

“Just because "Rachel Maddow freely admitted numerous times that she respects Glenn Beck on a professional level", isn't proof of anything.”

"Glenn Beck was my favorite person of all time in radio. When he was in talk radio God wasn’t speaking to him,” she said. “He was funny and much more performative than anyone. He’s amazing in talk radio. He was a political guy. It was him ranting and raving and you sort of felt he didn’t take it seriously. When I got hired by Air America they asked who I like in radio and I said I like Ira Glass, This American Life, and I really like this guy Glenn Beck,” she said. “And I shit you not, the guy who was sort of leading the interview, he didn’t last long at the company, said, 'We’re going to be a liberal channel.' I’m like, 'Yeah, I’m pretty confident in my politics.'” -----Rachel Maddow.”

Lol move along nothing to see here.

“nor is she deceiving her viewers by selling a bunch of junk”

No she’s just part of a network and hyper partisan political pundit movement that is dumbing down this country.

“just to line her greedy pockets.”

Yes because money in no way factors into her job whatsoever.

“Be honest with yourself, to say that Al Sharpton's promise of loyalty to President
Obama is the same as out right lying on his opponents, is disingenuous.”

A wise man once said “to sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men.” If Al Sharpton was a creditable and principled journalist he would’ve never said anything of the like and more to the point this sin by silence is exactly the same charge leveled against FOX news during this Bush administration and onward.

Well, that did sound a little harsh... but you certainly have a point.

Here’s Robert Fisk (briefly) describing the US media landscape (hilarious):
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kvc0xIdvR7k

The full one-hour talk (well worth listening to!) is here:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfQYhU1IfbQ

And John Pilger sums it up like this:
“There is something deeply corrupt consuming this craft of mine. It is not a recent phenomenon; look back on the "coverage" of the First World War by journalists who were subsequently knighted for their services to the concealment of the truth of that great slaughter.
What makes the difference today is the technology that produces an avalanche of repetitive information, which in the United States has been the source of arguably the most vociferous brainwashing in that country's history. “

      http://johnpilger.com/articles/journalism-is-rotting-away

Pilger has also occasionally told the following anecdote:

"One of my favorite stories about the Cold War concerns a group of Russian journalists who were touring the United States. On the final day of their visit, they were asked by the host for their impressions. "I have to tell you," said the spokesman, "that we were astonished to find after reading all the newspapers and watching TV day after day that all the opinions on all the vital issues are the same. To get that result in our country we send journalists to the gulag. We even tear out their fingernails. Here you don't have to do any of that. What is the secret?"

Has MSNBC even ONCE covered what is going on in Texas with Transcanada? Once about Monsanto and GMOs? Once about the military/ industrial complex? Bradley Manning? Concentrated on climate change? No, they are celebrities that talk about politics. I think they're like politicians. They fight in public but have drinks after the cameras go off. Regardless of how many opinions/polls that you get to support your unproven theory. I will reiterate" There is absolutely no comparison between MSNBC and Fox Fake News".
Besides, everybody knows that polls are designed to obtain certain results. Just like in the previous elections, right wing polls were designed to deceive. All of their polls had Mitt Romney winning. So much for that.
Everything that you have presented to support your claim has been meaningless so far. Until you provide information where MSNBC tells deliberate lies, manufacture stories, and operate as a division of the Democratic Party, you have failed to prove your point.
I will admit this much, the two organizations offer partisan political shows, which some critics say is a detriment to our democracy.

Your argument even reads like a FOX news piece. You keep repeating your “MSNBC is not like FOX” line as if I might accept it if you say it enough. At any rate the idea all polls are fake because some polls were proven fake is bigoted rhetoric. This is the same genius reasoning voiced by Klansmen, climate change deniers and homophobes. Do you even know specifically what polls I referenced or are you running on automatic? Do you have ANY information proving the polls I’m referring to are flawed?

How do you explain guys like Nate Silver who correctly predicted President Obama’s reelection based on polling numbers, or the numerous other pollsters who made the same accurate prediction? Was it just a stroke of luck or wishful thinking?

“Everything that you have presented to support your claim has been meaningless so far.”
LOL. If you don’t think test results of a world events questionnaire do not provide any relevant insight into the quality of journalism from a news organization then you’re essentially saying facts don’t matter, and scientific studies are inherently fake.

“Until you provide information where MSNBC tells deliberate lies….”

Strawman argument. I never said anything about lying. However I have argued the 24/7 “news” station MSNBC like FOX produces viewers who are consistently less informed than viewers of a weekly 30 minute fake news comedy show. Outright lying is a completely different argument and the fact of the matter is MSNBC is guilty of that charge many times over.

So let’s recap. You object to the idea MSNBC like FOX produces uninformed viewers, labeling this fact as “completely false.” At this point you appear completely unaware of several polls which have plainly demonstrated how remarkably uninformed MSNBC and FOX news viewers are, even when multiple current.com commenters have referenced these polls in this thread. When confronted with these poll and their findings you claim MSNBC viewers cannot be uninformed because they are aware of the religious affiliation of the president, the country where he was born and a few other choice tidbits that made their rounds in the news circle at least four years ago.
Oh yeah and these polls, and by extension all polls are bunk because some people at certain times have used the art of polling to present an agenda, but when asked to acknowledge what polls I’m talking about or any fraudulent bits in said polls you come up with absolutely nothing. Nate Silver and the other pollsters who correctly predicted the reelection of President Obama are flat out ignored because they throw a wrench in that whole theory of everything being wrong except for what you deem correct.

By your measure Rachel Maddow and her show in no way resembles or is structured similarly to Glenn Beck and his show even those Maddow has said just that in numerous interviews. Al Sharpton isn’t a fake journalist for making a promise to NEVER CRITIZISE A SITTING PRESIDENT because other people lie and by some feat of mental gymnastics two wrongs do make a right instead of just being two wrongs.

You also asked me to prove a point I never made but I did anyway because it was ridiculously easy and now we’re here without a single valid rebuttal from yourself. Well done I think you’ve proved my point nicely.

I wasn't talking about voting in regards to trolls or disruptors, I can understand that and my comment regarding voting oneself up was in response to you saying you don't care about the arrows because that contradicts your statement about not caring. That's all. I was originally specifically talking about people here who are known members of good standing being voted down by others who claim to be progressive (my noticing that pattern regarding you seemingly voting down my posts when you enter threads where I have commented) and who do it on a whim for no apparent reason but political and simply asking why that is in principle which you evaded completely. So I removed it to avoid anymore noise. And not all the good people or best posters are gone from this site. I try to not vote people down here who I perceive to be on the side of right even though I may not totally agree with their comment because I don't see the purpose. I was simply asking why others don't seem to feel the need to show the same courtesy. It wasn't meant to start a storm of controversy.
