Let's Ban This, That, and Those Too. And this story too.

We should ban house utensils; forks, spoons, knives (especially the knives) all need to go. Hell, sporks are a mass murder waiting to happen.

While we're at it, let's ban saws. Manual or automatic, saws are nasty. Chainsaws are probably the worst of the lot because you could obviously play lumberjack on an entire school if you wanted to with one of those.

Any kind of glass-ware should be banned. You could fashion a deadly weapon out of a goblet if you wanted to. Speaking of glass-ware, we should just ban glass entirely. We need to do that before someone encases their hapless victim(s) entirely into bullet-proof glass. I know that's a distinct and very odd scenario but still; if I can romance the idea, then someone else surely can!

    • The difference is reciprocity value of potential weapons. Attack me with your fist and I can hit back. Attack me with a knife I can still fight back. Attack me with a gun I have no method to reciprocate. Now here's the crux of our issue, only a gun can defend against a gun leaving us to wonder if the solution is to escalate the situation with ever growing arsenals eventually leading to the retail arms race and people installing atomic burglar deterrent systems in their homes or do we find a civilized compromise where safety can be reasonably assured? Logic is a bitch ain't it?

Not sure your logic holds. I think the idea is that, as long as one has the ability to kill from afar, one can defend their home from anyone.

Think about it.... burglars aren't going to use unmanned drones to break into your house.

but you don't need a busmaster and a 100 rounds charger to protect yourself against burglars, a classic handgun is enough.

this is what gun control is about, taking out of the street such weapons, rampage killing is harder with a handgun and a 11 round charger!

Well at least you are being rational in the discussion and not attempting to use logical fallacies to convey emotional responses... Oh.... wait that is precisely what you are doing. I believe you would be hard pressed to find someone who honestly thinks that a "bazooka" is required for home defense.

    • Might as well ban human beings while we're at it. I mean that's the source. Diabolical creatures we have become.
Our little life planet so utterly lifeless.
      A universe so vast, I'm glad I won't last.
      Blah blah blah.

"theres a man with a gun over there
tellin me i got to beware
      Par-a-noia strikes deep
into your life it will creep
it starts when your always afraid"

Wouldn't that suggest helping to repair the damage to humans, since "that's the source" by focusing more on treatment of mental illness? Investing in making therapies more available would benefit a lot more than just gun violence.

As has been pointed out, people can use anything as a weapon to kill, it's just the guns make it a lot easier to accomplish with many more deaths at a faster rate.

Cars kill a lot of people, but they aren't banned, just insured so the the people who drive them are held liable for the damage they cause.

      http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/01/11/1178189/-Middle-ground-idea-on-gun-cont...

"Here’s how it would work. Before anyone could buy a gun or ammunition, he or she would have to acquire an insurance policy for it and present proof of that policy to the gun shop, gun-show dealer, or private seller. Current gun owners would also have to carry such insurance.

Such a requirement would quite literally put a premium — a market premium — on sanity and safety. The more potentially lethal the weapon, the more a liability policy would cost.

A hunter who wanted a pump-action shotgun or a lever- or bolt-action rifle — that is, firearms that don’t reload automatically after the trigger is pulled — would pay only a nominal fee. A traditional semi-automatic big-game rifle — a .308 or a .30-06 or a .30-30, say — with a limited magazine might cost just a little more to insure.

But if you want or own a military-style semi-automatic with features like a pistol grip, which lets you spray fire from waist-level; a collapsible stock, which makes a weapon easier to conceal; or a high-capacity detachable magazine, well, insuring one of those would be far more expensive. That expense would not only discourage ownership of those types of weapons; it would also be a disincentive to accumulating an arsenal of guns.

So the insurance companies will report to the authorities that your insurance is paid up. If your insurance lapses, then you turn in your weapon. And if your weapon is used in a crime, then the insurance company will compensate the victims and the state for the costs associated with the event.

For people who own simple revolvers or hunting rifles, have passed numerous training and safety courses, have cleared background checks, and have proven safe storage, the lowest possible premiums would be available. For those who insist on owning huge arsenals of semi-automatics, well, you'll have to pay to mitigate the risks of owning such things."

I hear what your saying but I don't see this being all that effective, might piss a person off more, and like most things, loop holes do exist and so does the black market....

      final answer .

“Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.”

      surrounded herself w /
      many mirrors

it got so bad that finally she
      locked herself indoors & her
      whole life became the
      mirrors

      one day the villagers broke
into her house , but she was too
swift for them . she disappeared
      into a mirror
each tenant who bought the house
after that , lost a loved one to

the ol woman in the mirror :
      first a little girl
      then a young woman
      then the young woman/s husband

the hunger of this poem is legendary
it has taken in many victims
      back off from this poem
it has drawn in yr feet
      back off from this poem
it has drawn in yr legs

      back off from this poem
      it is a greedy mirror

ports that in 1968 over 100,000 people
      disappeared leaving no solid clues
      nor trace only
a space in the lives of their friends

    • Let's ban dumping mercury into your water system.

      "But wait! Personal responsibility!

We are sorry you got sick and died from mercury poisoning, you should have checked your water before you drank it. "

Your argument doesn't function: We ban the god damned things that prove out to be dangerous to us.

Prove that guns make us safer. Prove that guns make us less safe. THEN we do something. Otherwise, leave it.

      The end.
