By Glen Ford“The 2nd Brigade’s deployment is a much larger assignment, aimed at making all of Africa a theater of U.S. military operations.”
2013 is the year the U.S. kicks off its wholesale military occupation of Africa. The escalation should come as no surprise, since the Army Times newspaper [8] reported, back in June, that a U.S. brigade of at least 3,000 troops would become a permanent presence on the continent in the new year. On Christmas Eve, the Pentagon announced that 3,500 soldiers of the 1st Infantry Division’s 2nd Brigade, in Fort Riley, Kansas, will be sent to Africa, supposedly to confront a threat from al-Qaida in Mali, where Islamists have seized the northern part of the country. But the 2nd Brigade is scheduled to hold more than 100 military exercises in 35 countries [9], most of which have no al-Qaida presence. So, although there is no doubt that the U.S. will be deeply involved in the impending military operation in Mali, the 2nd Brigade’s deployment is a much larger assignment, aimed at making all of Africa a theater of U.S. military operations. The situation in Mali is simply a convenient, after-the-fact rationale for a long-planned expansion of the U.S. military footprint in Africa.
The Pentagon’s larger purpose in placing an army brigade on roving duty all across the continent is to acclimate African commanders to hosting a permanent, large scale U.S. presence. This is a very different kind of invasion – more like an infiltration-in-force. The Pentagon’s strategy is designed to reinforce relationships that the U.S. Africa Command has been cultivating with African militaries since the establishment of AFRICOM [10] during George Bush’s last year in office. As an infiltrating force, AFRICOM has been a phenomenal success.
“Militarily, the West Africans are totally dependent.”
Militarily speaking, the African Union has become an annex of the Pentagon [11]. The AU’s biggest operation, in Somalia, is armed, financed and directed by the U.S. military and CIA. The 17,000 African troops on so-called peace-keeping duty in Somalia are, for all practical purposes, mercenaries for the Americans – although poorly paid ones. Ethiopian and Kenyan forces act as extensions of U.S. power in the East Africa. U.S. Special Forces roam the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic – ostensibly looking for the fugitive warlord Joseph Kony but, in reality, establishing a web of U.S. military infrastructures [12] throughout center of the continent. Uganda and Rwanda keep the eastern Congo’s mineral riches safe for U.S. and European corporations – at the cost of 6 million Congolese lives. Their militaries are on the Pentagon’s payroll.

As much as I would like to think that Hollande is a man of the people, in the Tradition of the French Revolution. I am afraid that Alex Jones is right, that he is a Globalist Bilderberg Stooge. In this case France will pass the burden of neo colonial imperialism on to the designated Mercenary Hit-men for the Global Plutocratic Mafia- America, and the expense to the American taxpayers.

Like Vietnam, I may speculate, France will draw the US directly in to do the real dirty work and to bear the taxpayer expense.. I admire the romanticism of the French Revolution, the Foreign Legion and the Leftist agenda of Hollande, but honestly do not know if France will become a bastion of freedom and a leader against the Bushite NWO Global Mafia, or if it is just another willing co-conspirator like Great Britain and the Netherlands, Germany, Russia and China.
Certainly it will be a free for all ( 'all ' meaning for those with the power to enforce the tyranny of capital )Alex Jones may appear to be a buffoon , but he is spot on about the NWO conspiracy to institute a Global Militsary Dictatorship ruled by the Plutocracy, the Technocrats, & the Corporate Aristocracy.America is under seige, we are not free and AJ is right. Cenk is right too, Alex Jones discredits his own research by erratic emotional outbursts. This is unfortunate. It is reassuring that Cenk does not dismiss Alex's arguements, only his delivery.
IT IS ALL TRUE. The Drones will be turned on American citizens. The Military will be turned on the citizens too. Sorry if this is off topic, but I would like to reconnect with the neo colonial imperialism in Africa, this is all connected. They are the same Tyrants that forment war profiteering, rape and pillaging of minerals and natural resources, and genocidal operations against indigenous peoples.. I guess France is all part of the same Global Mafia.,According to Alex Jones , Hhe is just another Bilderberg Stooge, a Wolf in Sheeps clothing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuareg_people
This is information on the Tuareg people who resisted the initial French imperialism. Now we see the word Tuareg as giving the impression that they are the terrorists when it is really al qaida offshoots taking advantage of the vacuum left by the coup in the South. Perhaps there are still Tuaregs in the North who are resisting the advances of the French intervention again (and also these al qaida offshoots) so this has all been precipitated to give France a reason to intervene once again. While the presence of al qaida is not being disputed, the circumstances as to how these groups manage to always be the precursor to intervention by France and the US deserves to be questioned. Who really benefits?

People in the South of Mali will now welcome French intervention in the North (where btw countries have petitioned to explore for oil)...France will once again own Mali and they have help from Amadou Sanogo (trained in the U.S.), the coup leader who ousted the former president thus leaving the power vacuum that facilitated the advance of "al qaida" in the North. Looks like Libya all over again. Which mineral/oil rich country will " al qaida" suddenly show up in next? And how are they so well equipped that they need aerial bombardment from France to oust them?

Hurry and make sure you push relevant topics off the front page so no one can see them, especially if they question current policies. Talking about haricuts and swimsuits and keeping the political discussion one sided is so much more important. I would then guess based on that the new owners may just decide to push this site out of existence as well.

Disturbing: Why would US trained military leaders foment a coup in Mali of a leader calling for democracy when the US knows that to do so would bring about the victory of those out to cause more instability? From this it looks like this government is actually facilitating the takeover by Al Qaida in these regions so they then have an excuse to invade them.

Amazing how others post about such things and raise such questions and conversations are never ending. What are people really afraid of in regards to discussing this? That they might have to admit they voted for change and got the same status quo? When Bush was unconstitutionally squatting in the White House this was considered treacherous. The hypocrisy reeks. It will be interesting to see the conversations when the guard here changes.

Instability=Volatility. Volatility fuels mood swings of stocks and bonds. Rapid cycling mood swings in global events boost profits for those that create these Bi-Polar manipulations. This is insider trading and war profiteering 101.
This is the monopoly game played by the puppet masters responsible for the circus maximus of death. Famine, war, pandemics, coups and pre fab constructed boom & crash cycles based on pretermined variables and predictive reactive market forces.
The coreographers reap profits on the up and the down. This is the Bankster's Casino where the cards are marked, the roulette wheels have magnets in them and the dice are loaded. They Skim off the top of every deal, every loan every fix,There is no free market, it is all controlled, and free only for the too big to fail, above the law apratheid plutocracy.
I would not be surprized if undersea earthquakes and tsunamis are deliberately created by explosive devices detonated by quasi- military intelligence operatives, loyal to the Global Mafia. Unlimited upside, as master corporate criminal, John Paulson would say, with no down side for the players, but a holocaust for the victims. It's all good for them, the eugenic population control on a grand scale, with lucrative profits and the prestige of plausible deniability is a marriage made in heaven.
This is the same plan in design, different costume as Prescott Bush-Hitler-WWII War financing & profiteering, and as George H.W. Bush -CIA -Kennedy assasinations, and George W. Bush CIA-MOSSAD 9-11 Inside Job,, don't forget Enron-Ken Lay-Neil Bush S & L scam.
Now the Bush Dynasty has built it's 300,000 acre fortress estate in Paraguay as a base of operations for the global mafia. No extradition treaty with the USA and remember Col,. Strossner , the Nazi dictator who ruled Paraguay with an iron fist for decades was a friend and business partner with Prescott Bush and Adolph Hitler's 3rd Reich. Thousands of Nazi war criminals escaped to Paraguay after WWII with the aid of OSS and the Vatican. So this is the New World Order that "W" promised his supporters.
The 4th Reich is alive and well and planning on implementing the PROTOCOLS and police state for America and poised to continue to exploit the mineral riches of the world including Africa, South America and Antartica, unhindered by, moreover, in collusion with the United States mercenary military of Corporate Crime and Authoritarian Brutality.
Don't think for one nano second that this is some fantastic confabulation that I make up as I go. These conspiracy connections are real and exactly what President Eisenhower foresaw and warned us about in his 1961 farewell address: The military-industrial-congressional-banking complex. Absolute power creates psychopathology and the global insanity evidenced by the prevailing trends in geo political events since 1947 concludes that this is a reasonable hypothesis.

Well of course! The Pentagon needs to keep itself relevant and the Corporate Right has legitimized it's use in Africa to catch up with China's grab of African natural resources, for the benefit of Corporate profits which will be outsourced to avoid U.S. taxes. You, citizen, are paying the Pentagon to fight for corporate profits in Africa, which you will get no money in return for your investment. This is called the "redistribution of wealth." The redistribution of your wealth, through the Pentagon, and into the pockets of the Corporate Right. This, is how you and the U.S. was raped of all wealth and resources, and put into debt!

Very well thought out piece on AFRICOM and the case for dismantling it.
We have seen this same MO decade after decade regardless of the US leader or their party. This is not the way to true peace, education or freedom.
____
Excerpt:
(Page 9 of 16)opinion
Was this a case for or against AFRICOM?
"There was a spirited question and answer session. The first question related to the importance of oil from Africa. The questioner told the audience that it was necessary to grasp the conjuncture why there was the deployment of the US Africa Command at this time. It was brought to the attention of the colloquium that up to 25 per cent of the petroleum needs of the United States were supplied by Africa and that Africa was now more important than the Middle East in the supply of oil. The speaker from the floor then drew attention to how the United States was a major weapons supplier to Africa and that these weapons undermined the stability of Africa. The point was made that there was near universal opposition in Africa to the hosting of AFRICOM and that there was only one state, Liberia, that offered to host AFRICOM. The speaker made references to the plunder of resources in eastern Congo and the relationships between the US military and the militaries in Rwanda and Uganda. There was then reference to the major land grab in Africa and why a conference on governance, peace and security should devote more time to the issue of land grab.
Carter Ham stated that the US military was not an independent actor in Africa, that the actions were guided by the Secretary of Defense and the president. He pointed out that there was a very deliberative process in the Department of Defense. The Africa Command did not provide weapons to governments. That weapons transfers came under the purview of the Department of State. There was a process of background checks before the US government provides weapons. These background checks were carried out by the Department of State. He noted that the US military provided training and equipment and the US reserved the right to monitor how training and weapons are applied. "Is it failsafe? No. Is it in accordance with laws and standards - yes." The military was not operating as an independent actor in Africa. "We are one small part of US effort. If we look at US spending in Africa -- military is dwarfed; most US spending is in health, education and agriculture. That reflects our values. We invest in human capital."
These last words in the mind of this author were the clearest argument for the dismantling of AFRICOM and this author said so in his question to the general. If the United States and its government were serious about investment in human capital, then the present dominance of the military over aid and education ventures would be reversed."
