You people need to stop.Seriously
.
I have listened as respectfully as possible for the last four years when you claimed that the President of the United States wasn't actually from the United States. I let it slide when you called him a Socialist and a Communist, I laughed at you when you said Obama was coming to take away your guns despite no actual evidence to justify that claim. Secret Benghazi cover ups, fake concussions, I've rolled with the right-wing punches.
Let’s start with an easy one to debunk, shall we?
I generally do not give any type of attention or credibility to the “9/11 was an inside job” type conspiracy nuts but in this case we are talking about the Sandy Hook Massacre where 26 people (including 20 six and seven year old) were brutally slaughtered by a lunatic. This is NOT a column on gun control – I've written extensively about that
topic and my only real hope is that as a country there still remains the possibility of a meaningful gun debate.
That is of course if the government stops organizing mass murders to push their agenda to strip away the Second Amendment.
Several of my friends on Facebook (People that I generally consider to be bright, insightful people)shared a video that examines a bunch of theories about the “real” story behind the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary. Using the Glenn Beck “Hey, I’m just asking questions!” model of journalistic integrity seems to be effective because millions of people have viewed this tripe and some actually give validation to this line of thinking.
And now, I proceed to make each and every one of you who watched that video and entertained even a moment of doubt over the validity of 26 innocent people being murdered feel like gigantic assholes. I’m sorry that I have to be the one to do it, but I can’t have you walking around thinking that the victims of this tragedy do not deserve every bit of respect, sympathy, and prayers that we should all be offering them.
This is not partisan, this is not politics, this is about being human beings and for a moment putting ourselves in the shoes of a mother or father who had to identify the body of their six year old son with half of his face shot off.
We all know the story, on to the ripping conspiracy theories to shreds. I’ll try to go in order through this terrible video:
Conspiracy Theory #1 – Multiple Shooters
We will start nice and slow here. The explanation here is simple – the second man is Chris Manfredonia, who was briefly detained by police when they arrived to secure the crime scene. He’s actually the father
of a student at Sandy Hook. Once the “suspect” was identified and no evidence of him being involved in the shooting could be found, he was released. Believe it or not, this is pretty routine when investigating a crime. It doesn't represent multiple gunmen, or some massive coordinated attack – It just was a concerned parent trying to check on his child. We aren't supposed to believe that the man doesn't exist, we are supposed to believe that he was identified as Chris Manfredonia and was released after questioning. Also, he liked baking gingerbread houses with his wife and daughter, which is why he was at the school.
Conspiracy Theory #2 – What Guns Were Used?
I’m not sure why it matters except to gun-nuts but this one is also pretty easy. In the competitive media environment outlets are always trying to be the first one to have the “scoop” on a story. However (and you Benghazi nuts will love this point) as an investigation continues, often more accurate and complete information is available.
The primary weapon used in the attack was a “Bushmaster AR-15 assault-
type weapon,” said Connecticut State Police Lt. Paul Vance. Right after the story broke there were grainy videos of police pulling a gun out of the shooter’s car that they tried to identify as the AR-15 (it was the shotgun, per police reports) and autopsy and police reports afterwards found that again, the primary weapon used in the massacre was the Bushmaster AR-15.
The shooter did take his own life with one of the pistols that he also brought into the school. If you don’t believe that news organizations can sometimes have inaccurate information at the beginning of breaking news, ask Ryan Lanza how he feels about the
possibility. There were not 4 handguns, there were 2 and the segment ends with the medical examiner verifying the autopsy report that the rifle was the weapon used in the killings.
On a side note: The “conspiracy” that this is some effort to get the Assault Weapons Ban re-instituted?
Let me hit you with THIS COUNTER-CONSPIRACY THEORY. The Sandy Hook Shootings were organized by the NRA and Wal-Mart to create record gun sales in the past month.
Conspiracy Theory #3 – Where are the Survivors?
This is where you should REALLY start to feel sick to your stomach. It’s a conspiracy that 6 year old
trapped in a classroom didn't do a better job of surviving a gunman firing a semi-automatic weapon at them in confined, closed quarters?
Really – pause for a second just to feel bad about such a sad,
disgusting thought entering your brain – even for a second.
Conspiracy Theory #4 – Nancy Lanza’s Employment at Sandy Hook
The media screwed the pooch on this one. From further investigation (You know, to get those pesky facts!) it appears as though at the time that her son shot her in the head four times en route to Sandy Hook that she was not employed, and was collecting somewhere around $250,000 a year in alimony from her ex-husband.
I’m shocked that the traumatized nurse didn't answer the reporter’s question accurately
minutes after fleeing from a gunman. She must also work for the government.
Conspiracy Theory #5 – Emilie Parker and “How to Grieve”
I pray none of you reading this have ever had to bury your child. Regardless, you do not need a degree in psychology to realize that people grieve differently. Furthermore, public speaking is scary for a lot of individuals and PERHAPS having to focus on his recently deceased child caused Mr. Parker’s mood
to change. To “smell BS” in regards to a dead child is pretty deplorable. Yes, this is another moment where you can pause and feel bad for doubting that this man lost his daughter.
Now to the Facebook “ time-stamp” issue. Look, we all use Facebook: Does it always work EXACTLY right for you? My timeline disappeared for a whole week. Sometimes posts do not show up, it’s certainly not an exact science – Or a science at all. (I’m sure I’ll talk more about web searches in a bit, so let’s move
on.)
Conspiracy Theory #5a -Emilie Impersonates Jesus in Picture with President Obama.
This is going to strike those of you without children as weird but believe it or not, sometimes parents give what they call “hand me down” clothing to a younger child. It saves money, and often 6 year old aren't TOO concerned with the latest fashion. The fact that the video guy outright claims that Emilie is not dead is disgusting.

No conspiracy theories needed. Who controls the media and who are the powerbrokers pushing gun control? Research those two questions and the answers will become self evident. They are same crowd and that's all you need to know. End of story.

The funny thing here is that right after 911 you could only bring up and discuss "the 911 conspiracy" on Progressive Democrat sites like Think Progress, Crooks and Liars, and Firedoglake. If you went on any rightwing site like RedState you were yelled at, called a traitor and worse, then permanently banned. They had no tolerance.
It seems that whatever party is in power has a monoply on "truth ", some immagined power, and the ammunition of dismissive names like wack job, nut job, crazy etc.
The reason nothing ever changes is because both extremes are locked in pointless team battle with the need of groupthink,a common enemy, and a place to dump their own personal anger. The powers that be wouldn't have it any other way while they walk out the back door with the valuables.. - 4 months ago

sorry buddy but this isnt how this works.
i dont understand why it is so hard for people to get, but when propaganda is attached to an idealogical position, it cannot be undone in the minds of the idealogue, cuz they are idealogues.
it is why no matter how much common sense you offer a religious nut, they will still believe in the angry man in the sky.
whether it makes sense or not has nothing to do with it.some one who needs their to be an awesome place their pop pop went to when they died dont care if it is called heaven, another name, the product of a god, multiple gods, or a magical farm upstate.
as long as the emotional need is fed, they will go along with it, as they have to in order to feed that emotion.it isnt about logic, which is what you are supposing matters.
what you are forgetting due to your silly use of things like reason and thinking, is that the people who you are speaking of held the positions they hold now, before the shooting occured, now after, and will hold them in the future, and what actually happens in reality is secondary.they came to the dance ready to mosh, no matter how many paula abdul songs are being played.in their heads they are hearing slayer.
at least be greatfull that it isnt personal for you.that at least you dont have people supposing that by the virtue of being born jewish that you are to blame for the wtc.
you can at least do the only thing we are supposed to do with this sort of bullshit, which is point out it is shit, and walk away from it, so as not to dignify it with your response.

I absolutely agree that the fringe of this goes beyond the pale. People are mourning and have lost people they loved. Having said that though I think there also needs to be a delineation between labelling people fringe who do cruel things like harrass good people who gave help to others and people like myself who may see inconsistencies in the reporting of this and ask questions as was done regarding 9.11, the BP ecocide in the Gulf, and every other such event. Unfortunately, it would seem that anyone even daring to ask a question is lumped in the same category as the fringe and I find that to be totally unfair and counterproductive.

I know, it is a fine line to walk. I too try to temper my questions so as not to come off as insensitive to those who are mourning loss. However, even those who had loved ones lost on 9.11 were asking the same questions. I agree that we should not be silent especially when that silence in the end may just lead to more hurt down the road.

I am becoming to believe that there are a lot of crazy people in the US. Anyone that even considers that half of this crap is true needs their heads examined. It would mean that everyone is lying, including the surviving children, teachers, first responders, doctors, elected officials, etc. That many people could not perpetrate such a lie.
I saw the parents on Rachel Maddow who were laughing when they spoke about their son. It's because they were remembering his antics, as he is still very much a part of their life and family. No one can take that away. This normal for anyone who has lost a loved one. Right after the memorial service for my husband, my family sat around the kitchen table laughing about all the silly things he did when he was alive. It is a way to cope with a tragic situation, as well as honoring their memory.
So, shame on all those that spread these lies.

I don't get it either. I was thinking today, after listening to all the crap being spewed by the NRA that I am so GLAD that I was lucky to have married a Canadian and moved up here. It seems that there are many more violent, ignorant and gullible people in the US today compared to what it was like when was growing up. We never worried about anyone coming into our schools to mow us down back in those days. The only things that concerned us was our grades and the other school rivals in sports. I cannot imagine being afraid to go to school because someone may want to shoot me. Back then there wasn't this big push to have guns either, except for hunting. I think the NRA went downhill after Charlton Heston, representing them, raised his rifle in the air and yelled that they were going to have to pry it from his cold dead hands. Prior to that the NRA were the ones that use to push for gun safety.

their is also the question of how much of the crap on the internet do you suppose you would see if we didnt have alias's to hide behind.would the average joe say half the shit they say if they had their actual name attached?
also is the power of print, which makes things seem more legit and for some reason the internet gets a legit boost which makes matters seem more than they are as well.
cant tell you how many times i have actually had people argue that "wikipedia says" or "youtube has a video" as if it isnt the place any fool can claim anything.
ill give you we have a shit ton of stupid, but i think the crazy is more like our collective inner children playing on the internet with one another.

You are right of course. People today take everything they read on the Internet as gospel, regardless of where it comes from. I heard a reporter say yesterday that News organizations today do not do there own investigations anymore. They have lost those investigative reporters who go out and pound the streets tracking down their own leads. This is why there are so many lies out there today and if you say it often enough people believe it. That is the real harm the Internet has caused.

nah, the internet is just a tool so it is as usefull of counter productive as we make it.
it would be like blaming the written word and the alphabet for every racist rag that has ever gone to print.
it is up to us to put these things in the proper context.which is far less fun than the alternative.
as far as investigative journalism goes, that was just a long time coming.when you make the media subject to financial gains as the basis for its survival, all else goes out the window.
internet or not, the crazy shit charlie sheen is up to gets more ratings than coverage of anything else.we make our own beds, then complain about having to lie in it.we could simply not give them the ratings the get from jersey shore type stupidity, and grant them ratings for journalism.but we did and still do, the exact opposite.cant even really blame them, as they dont pretend they arent there to make a buck.
from the wlmart shopper, to the tmz viewer, all are to blame for giving their monitary approval to these entities rather than the quality ones they claim they want.

Shootings were organized by the NRA and Wal-Mart?
Thats not Walmart. They make millions from something going up $0.01
What runs walmart is money, yes, but in stocks etc.
They make more money in stocks reg sales than gun sales.
Walmart makes $419 billion a year in sales.
K-mart did not survive with gun sales! It did not make a difference,
so they killed the gun sales. Now to the Facebook “ time-stamp” issue.
Even here on current there is issues!
From time to time I do a WHOIS of the current TV website.
I got a point to a "al-saddclub" website.
Connected with current.
Why is a football thing tied in with Current?
There where no ads for it there etc.
Is it sort of a front for something? You are right with that & everything else follows with it!
Follow the IP addresses! Do a WHO IS from time to time
of the websites you have ?'s about!Be aware I did a WHOIS once on my connection & it caused my PC to reboot!
Someone didn't like me doing it! I found the file that did it & locked it up.
It never happened again!
In other words secure up your system before you get into the fire!Mostly also the issue is in flash I noticed.
I moved my flash files to a new local of a different drive changed
the Regedit to make it work. Set it all to Read-only etc, etc.
My firewall is watching every flash file & system files to make sure it's safe. - 4 months ago

When horrific tragedies occur, some minds cannot grasp the reality - and turn to alternative reasoning - creating conspiracy theories. We can cite any number of at tragedies that have occurred in the past 20 years - our minds just don't want to accept the truth; some of the reasoning is: "if THAT happened, then THIS could also happen." Some would really rather be in denial.

The LA times reported that it was Chris Manfredonia. I want to hear that from the newtown police. But according to them there wasnt even an arrest made nobody was being chased into the woods but there is helicopter footage cleary showing there was a chase in the woods. Heres the police saying that if there was someone in the woods chopping wood they would detained pending the investigation. Im no police man but i assume the investigation does not take less than a day after a mass shooting. I can overlook the other stuff but i cannot overlook this one. I want to see a picture of Chris Manfredonia. And i want to hear the police say they made a detain and release and what the basis of that release was.

All five of you points are spot-on as confirmed in the official police report at ct.gov (see link below.)
They did take 4 days to release it though, which is surprising since the medical examiner had all the autopsies done that first day (with the exception of Adams.) It was also important to have all of the facts in this official report for the VP to craft the executive orders and make informed legislative recommendations.
