For-Profit Education: Nevada’s Giveaway to Teach for America

Nevada GOP Governor and pretty boy Brian Sandoval recently delivered his second State of the State address. In this mostly self-congratulatory speech, Gov. Sandoval gives a big fat kiss to the nonprofit organization Teach for America (TFA). His current proposal would give the organization $2 million “to help recruit, train, develop and place top teacher and leadership talent in Nevada.” But in 2011, the same Gov. Sandoval proposed significant cuts to education, so why just 2 years later does he seem to be in love with TFA, or concerned with Nevada’s lowest-in-the-nation graduation rate?
