Father of Newtown victim heckled at hearing

"The Second Amendment!" was shouted by several gun enthusiasts in the meeting room as Neil Heslin, holding a photo of his 6-year-old son, Jesse Lewis, asked why Bushmaster assault-style weapons are allowed to be sold in the state.
"There are a lot of things that should be changed to prevent what happened," said Heslin, who grew up using guns and seemed undisturbed by the interruption of his testimony.
Senate Majority Leader Martin M. Looney, co-chairman of the Gun Violence Prevention Working Group, threatened to empty the meeting room in the Legislative Office Building -- jammed with hundreds of people -- if the outbursts and chatter from the audience continued.
"That wasn't just a killing, it was a massacre," said Heslin, who recalled dropping off his son at Sandy Hook Elementary School shortly before Adam Lanza killed 20 children and six adults. "I just hope some good can come out of this."
Another father of a 6-year-old boy murdered in the shootings fought back tears as he told lawmakers to make any changes in gun laws simple.
"I don't believe it's so complex," said Mark Mattioli, whose son, James, was among the first-graders slaughtered on Dec.14.
"We need civility across our nation," said Mattioli, who appeared with his wife, Cindy, before the legislative panel. "The problem is not gun laws. It's a lack of civility."
Veronique Posner, whose son, Noah, was killed in the massacre, said his grave is only a five-minute drive from Chalk Hill School in Monroe.
Posner said her two other children, both Sandy Hook School students, are haunted by their brother's death, especially his twin sister.
"It is our feeling that assault weapons should be comprehensively banned in the state of Connecticut," she said. "Faster weapons equal more fatalities."
As many as 2,000 people descended on the Capitol for the day-long hearing on gun control.
At one point, about 90 minutes into the morning portion of the hearing, a false fire alarm nearly emptied the room before Capitol Police said the alarm was erroneously reported after an equipment malfunction.
chiefs said they support new legislation that would require background checks before every rifle sold in the state, particularly in the so-called secondary market among private owners.
The chiefs also suggested eliminating the state Board of Firearms Examiners, which reviews cases where the privileges of gun owners are suspended or revoked.
Gun manufacturers, while telling lawmakers they wanted to work with them on addressing gun control, offered little in the way of proposals.
Lawrence Keane, senior vice president and general counsel of the Newtown-based National Shooting Sports Foundation, said that gun manufacturing in Connecticut is a $1.75-billion industry with 7,300 jobs.
Keane said the organization has been working to keep guns out of the hands of people like Lanza, who first killed his mother before opening fire at Sandy Hook School with her legally purchased weapons.
Kevin Reid of Oxford, general counsel for Sturm, Ruger & Co., the gun manufacturer with headquarters in Fairfield, said while the company does not make guns in Connecticut, they use state subcontractors.
"We pump tens of millions of dollars each year into the Connecticut economy," Reid said.
Senate President Pro Tempore Donald E. Williams Jr., D-Brooklyn, replied that Connecticut firearms makers can -- and should -- make weapons safer.
"You may work with us to improve the safety of these firearms, so we can prevent the unauthorized access of these firearms," Williams said.
"The reality is the technology is not mature enough," Keane responded.
Capitol police installed metal detectors for the day and patted down all visitors, including well-known lobbyists, as part of heightened security on the day gun enthusiasts and gun-control supporters met over the volatile issue.
The line to get into the Legislative Office Building stretched 100 yards into the parking lot. As many as 1,300 people registered to speak to the committee, many wearing yellow lapel stickers identifying themselves as responsible gun owners.
During morning news conferences, a state teachers union said 85 percent of its members oppose arming teachers. Another presentation featured State Police displaying various types of weapons.

So I watched the video online...where exactly was he being "heckled"? He asked a rhetorical question, followed by some folks in the back shouting "2nd Amendment!". But I would hardly call that 'heckling'.
This is nothing new. The news has been pushing sensationalism since the sinking of the Maine. When I saw the word 'heckling' in the subject title, I expected to see the man getting repeatedly interrupted and booed while trying to make his points. No such instance occured.

Exactly. In fact, the first time he asked, nobody even responded. He turned around and asked once more and got a response. It was not heckling at all but simply an answer to his question.

imo Mr. Heslin's actions invited a response and he got a response, he wasn't shocked or outraged by hearing the response, he acknowledged their opinion and continued with his statement.
Now Basher and the folks over at MSNBC decided that with a little editing that they could spin out a good soundbite headline and it appears that's all it takes to keep the kids in the basement glued to the tube.....HEY MSNBC when you have folks over at the daily commie calling you out, it's time to reevaluate your tactics...

This is bullshit sensationalism. The father literally asked if anyone could answer his question and gave a pause. During the pause while he was awaiting a response, supporters of the second amendment answered his question. Here is the relevant part of the video for anyone actually interested in the truth allthough I know 90% of people will read the headline and that is all.

You are right. I have previously posted a video - I will try to find it - in which a daughter actually SAW her parents murdered by a crazy person who kept reloading his gun in Texas, killing everyone he could. She became a doctor and was very articulate. She lamented the fact that she had been given a pistol and left it at home. She was a supporter of the Second Amendment.
Any normal and reasonable person will be saddened for this man's loss and grieve for him; many closer will support him. His grief should not be USED, however, as a pretext for an agenda that is very clear.
Again, you are right. You will be criticized and condemned for being heartless, simply because you do not go along with the agenda that the anti-gun people have. Please do not be daunted and continue to support our Bill of Rights.
I do not own a gun. I have been shot myself. I joined the NRA. I am with you!

So we become our own enemies. One of the reasons for corporate think tank (query ALEC Koch) money and support for canned firearms legislation allowing free carry in Red states is that it fans the flames and is destabilizing while encouraging their supporters. We are involved in a hostile takeover of our nation by cooperating multinational powers if you haven't noticed.

The "shame" here is the fact that NBC/MSNBC has once again been caught red-handed doctoring audit/video in order to push a false narrative and people just unquestioningly lap it up. How many times does this have to happen before people stop falling for it so eagerly? Give the confirmation bias a rest and try exercising a modicum of skepticism. Equally shameful is the fact that those who point out the deception are the ones being downvoted. Apparently honesty is just flat out of fashion here.

A victim once, by losing his child, and a victim twice of partisan bickering intended to keep us arguing forever over crap. Don't we all see how the two sides of this argument are defined for us, labels are put on us and we are set upon each other for blood like a dog fight? We are all being used, even this poor man.
How much does everyone want to bet that gun control is going to be a major wedge issue during the election in 2016, 2020, 2024, 2028...? We'll also still be arguing about women's rights, and gay rights, and health care, and everything else. The point is to get people fighting, not to find solutions. To the ruling elite and their puppet politicians wedge issues ARE the solution in and of themselves. It is very depressing to see everyone blindly playing their parts in this charade.
We should be disgusted with the politicians and the media for dragging us all through this shit. They are so low that they will use grieving parents as tools to keep us all fighting. They have no hearts... and we have no eyes because it doesn't seem like too many of us are seeing reality here. A few of us are, but not nearly enough to be statistically significant.
As in all wedge issues, this is not about us vs ourselves. This is about us vs the elite. Since they are way outnumbered, the elite create this illusion that it is us vs ourselves and we fall for it every time.

{And no the government didn't control the media when the act was in effect for decades.}
Word games. It did not control it when that Gestapo regulation was around, but in effect it did, of course. And you know it.
Radio stations were faced with a choice: They had to "balance" the news. First question is WHO the f.... decides what is balanced, pal??? By what criteria? By WHOSE criteria?
Next, the people were not listening to LEFT-WINGER radio. That is why it failed when the GESTAPO LEFTIST UNfairness in Broadcasting was gone!
So, a station knows that if they "balance" the news (put in Liberal garbage that nobody wants to hear), they will lose listeners (therefore sponsors, remember the free market). So, they simply have no such broadcasts that the GOVERNMENT is going to monitor and supervise and tell them to "balance."
Typical of the Left: Get the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT in to monitor CORRECT SPEECH.

I didn't reply to that comment by sedwin about News Corp and Limbaugh. I personally never said anything about "eliminating" anyone or taking action to limit anyone's free speech whether or not it is hateful. So, what motivated your comment?
I think you might have just read the conversation between Mishima and sedwin and projected some of those thoughts on me. It was probably just an honest mistake on your part. I don't think you were trying to troll me (which is why I am taking the time to respond to you). Further convsersation may reveal otherwise, but I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt for now.
For the record, I am not in favor of limiting individual free speech at all. I dislike people who hate other people for silly reasons, but they should still be allowed to express themselves. We would be better off with a more honest media however, so people can make informed choices. Personally I think one of the goals of our current media is to just make people hate each other. The way wedge issues are framed now, it's so easy just to put a label on someone and discard everything they say.
Also, I support the 2nd amendment. However, I will not participate in the curent partisan bickering over it because I really do believe that this issue is currently being used as a wedge issue to divide the people. It is my opinion that this is the whole point of the current argument. Politicians and the media do not want any solution whatsoever. The goal is just to keep people divided. We just get propaganda from both sides intended to reach this end.
If you read my comments in the future, you'll need to remove your partisan glasses and see me as an individual if you goal is to be sincere.

Nope. The FCC was empowered to make specific requirements in their broadcasting: Divergent political views. You need to read up on the stuff before you write something like that. In this Gestapo act, the term "controversal public issues" was used. It is a manifest attack on free speech. Left-wingers want it because they hate divergent views and fear alternate sources that reveal LEFTIST distortions, perfidity and deceit, sources that expose the LEFT-WINGER agenda.

As a Conservative, the position that the power that is relegated to the states, as in our Constitution, is emphasized and central to the Conservative position. But notice that there are enumerated powers in the Constitution for the federal government, and those not enumerated are within the power of the states. Left-wingers have undermined this already, of course, and caused much damage in the process.
That said, this is one time in which the federal government DOES have the power, not the individual states. There is room for background checks and such, but not to take away our CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT AS CLEARLY STATED.
That would be akin to denying racial groups the right to vote.

Well, the OWS street trash claim that the rapists, the foul-mouthed screamers of obscenities, the rock-throwers, the fire-bombers, the public defecators, the destroyers of property, and the flag-burners are all "plants" to discredit their wonderful movement.....

Constipated. Crampy. Could be his "time of the month."
Of course, he will deny this - will call it a "left-winger tactic" used by marxists - but it is his truth. Alas, he's a grumpy old gasbag - or a big 'bag-o-gas..." to put it another way. - 4 months ago

His and anyone elses grief is not reason enough to strip me or any citizen of the right to gun ownership granted in the US constitution.

Good idea. Also, as you are no doubt aware, the Founders' intent in relation to militias was that the federal government could NOT disarm INDIVIDUALS in the process of disbanding militias. The right of INDIVIDUALS to own firearms was part of the intent with the militias, as well as individuals being able to protect themselves, of course.

As a reasonable and mature ADULT, I find it preferrable to stick to content and concepts. But LEFT-WINGERS are different in that arena it appears.
You frame it in terms of "liking" or not liking another poster. This is the way of the LEFT, of course. I never posted to "make friends," but focused on the issue per se.
I came across an interesting short article today: "Re-branding Guevara: Che the Butcher."
The author thinks that branding this animal's photo taken by Alberto Korda in 1960 is akin to displaying one of Adolph Hitler, and I agree. He described how this blood-thirsty reprobate scumbag set up FORCED-LABOR camps for gays and Catholics. The most famous being LA CABANA FORTRESS prison. The animal supervised EXECUTIONS of many there.
To prove how filthy this low-life was, this craven POS murdered Eutrimion Guerra and wrote, "I ended the problem with a .32 caliber pistol, in the right side of his brain....His belongings were now mine."
Do you know that the scumbag attempted a terrorist plot to murder THOUSANDS of INNOCENT Americans in 1962?
It was a plot with 1,200 pounds of TNT to be set off in public areas of NYC, to murder women, children and any innocent who happened to be in department stores!
A question to you, very simple: Do you wish Che Guevara succeeded in his revolutionary plans? DO YOU?????????????
