    • Great reporting by Abby Martin as usual. I wish I could get RT here in WI. This is just one of the many ways that will cause humanity to cease to exist. It's like the planet is one big dumpster and the lid won't shut.

One huge dumpster. I live in Wisconsin. People breeding like roaches across country,
across globe. They contribute to all garbage. Corporations enhance it.

    • When I first saw the Headline on this post, I read it as "Hannity's Landfill". Some kind of Freudian mental slip I suppose.

Not sure exactly what it means although conflating any term for garbage and any term for FOX programming does make a kind of abstract sense ...

    • Sad hemp could have totally averted this tragedy before it ever got started, any kind of plant cellulose substitutions for plastics could've really.

Who'd thunk all that harmless "retail therapy", potentially destroying the planet for generations.

On the plus side they've recently discovered a bacteria or microbe that actually feeds on plastics, believe that was in the Atlantic though. Google it, I fibs not.

We've been using canvas bags for a long time now, and we do what we can to avoid plastics wherever possible. I hate the fact that there's so much plastic packaging on the stuff we buy though.

The worst part is that we don't have a very good recycling program where I live.

I envy the cities who are continuously improving their programs, as we can all do much better when it comes to this.

On The Daily Show the other night Gore said that Al Jazeera plans to keep Current the way it is now, with some tweaking, of course. I sure hope they keep the freedom of the Community page. It's totally unique!

      Indeed, coolplanet.
I, too, hope they keep the Community page. It's been a month since the announcement, so who knows? We shall see.
So far, the only changes I've noticed are a few technical things but nothing major.

the line-up was abysmal tonight no? I hope AlJ improves the community forum, not to be something like HP choked with unnecessary censorship, they need to put an end to the wildest show feel of place that has been happening for some months now.

If it remains as is I rather see it gone.

If you ask me the line-up of all 200+ TV channels suck most of the time. But I do like programs without commercials.
      The way I look at the community page (and all news groups) is that it's up to us to vote stories up or down. I think the mods do a pretty good job at directing the wildest posts to more appropriate pages in due time. I mean, if we wished Happy Birthday to every member here it would always be the top story. ;}

I agree with you. I spent the whole day watching the Discovery Channel, which was dealing with global climate change. Except for National Geographic and the Discovery Channel there really isn't much on TV these days. By the way, our Community structure is much better then other sites. We actually have fewer trolls too, although it sometimes doesn't feel that way. I hope you continue to post the great articles you do until they turn out the lights.

You tube has really become my friend. Good but to long can be saved and watched later. Good subscriptions is the way to go but sometimes suggestions based on your viewing history can be informative and lead to even better subscriptions. I hate and will not subject myself to commercials!

I love the community here, actually it's the only reason I even bother to show up. The different postings do a good job of keeping one current. I know most stories are political which for political junkies is the best part but there are other gems if one bothers to look for them---if lacking one can always post a story of interest.

I called for folks not to bail when the KO debacle surface, so sad to see so many leave then, now so many are bailing out, while I understand is hard to see them go, the diversity here is practically gone. All we have are political junkies, gun loons, environmentalist and a whole lot of ego fighting for dominion of the site.

The channel seemed to have gone down in quality about a year ago---to be honest that's the last time I viewed the programing regularly.

I felt that current ( the site and channel) was worth saving but lack luster vision did it in. While AlJ may prove to be a worthy addition I hate that an American progressive idea has been lost.

I agree, there seems to be so few of us still posting on here these days. But, I'm trying to be hopeful that Al-Jazeera will allow this format to continue. Maybe if they do, some that have left will come back. As far as what is discussed on here it is the same no matter where you go these days and our trolls are tame compared to sites such as MSNBC. I discovered from reading the comments on articles on their site, that Fox kicks off all progressives. It you disagree with anything Fox says your banned forever. So we should count ourselves lucky that there are still enough of us left on here to have a good discussion, even it we don't all agree all the time. At least we know who our trolls are and we can just ignore them and any of the articles they post.

Are you saying that you can watch shows on YouTube? If so do you have to pay for them and do they use many gigabytes when you download them? Where I live I have the maximum Internet package, but can only download 60GB a month. I reach my limit or exceed it when my grandchildren come to visit, as they are download things all the time. So I'm just wondering. Thanks.

I just mark to watch them later. Not every show but live stream the TYT and I can get full documentary's and things from discover. Hulu has shows but now they have a monthly fee for I guess what is better and quicker. You can also find episodes on European web sites. I lost the links on my desk top with my computer that died in December. Downloading really uses up a lot of memory space. So do videos if you make them. Flash drives and DVDs are the way to go. Even a camera memory card with 2 or more gigabits. I really try to find really good educational things for my little one. I just plain tell her the truth and don't wait for her to get some magic age. I also let her know it is my opinion of life due to my experiences. Children are the future. Giving them access to truth takes us a long ways. I have zero money or income so this is computing in extra time thanks to my step mom. I am mostly embarrassed not to be useful to others. OTOH I never would have had the time to really look at the causes and effects of the many different actions on this rock.

Thanks for the info. I did not know that you could get shows on YouTube. I thought it was for videos that ordinary people posted. I'll definitely check it out and see what I can get for free. I use to be able to get Current TV on my tablet, but I think about about a year ago they stop streaming their shows online. Now I'm lucky if I can get the one of their videos from a show. Both my daughters are grown, but I made sure as they were growing up that they knew the difference between right and wrong, as well allowing them to make own choices. They both grew up to be very strong, successful, independent women. It sound like you off to a good start with your little one.

I think it's great that "we don't all agree all the time".
Who wants just one echo chamber of the same points of view on everything? I think that gets boring and predictable.
Sometimes, the greatest way to learn something new is to have discussions with one or more people we may not agree with; it can be an opportunity for everyone to learn new things.

I agree and as long as we can discuss the issues and not call each other names, I love a good debate. Everyone has their own opinion on issues based on their own life experiences. By the way, it would be extremely boring is we all agreed on everything all the time. Now how we all got off the topic of this article is beyond me.

I don't think AJ is going to keep any of this format. I think it will just look a lot like their English site with a few cosmetic changes. I just don't see them relying on a crowdsourced format.

I really hope that the site software used here gets licensed out to some indie forum upstart.

      Now that would be cool.

You just subscribe to different posters and use your account and give them a contact E-mail. If you don't start an account which does not cost You have to do searching but their search leads to a lot of good shows and sometimes you have to change your wording. It has taken me 4 years to find out how useful it can be.

It all depends on where you live and what kind of package you have. For example, I cannot open any YouTube videos posted on Current from the Daily Show as Comedy TV in Canada owns the rights to the show and prevents me from opening them. But, I'm going see what is available from YouTube up here.

Squigworth ( the blue octopus ), Plankton, Pearl the Whale ( Mr. Crabs'

When You subscribe to something you may find the one you liked was the only good one. To much BS is just that. So,,,,,,,,, what I do is go to the subscribers page when I like a post and see what else they have posted before I will subscribe. The e-mail thing has changed in the last half year or so. You used to be able to subscribe and mark if you wanted an e-mail for a new post that was just added. I am not sure how it is working now but I still get e-mails from before the change. I am trying to relearn. My personal memory still has misplaced files and my head ram is so slow .LOL

I was speaking of my own brain. My active memory has a lot of trouble finding information that it used to know before my accident. The last 10 years are still a blur for the thing I had learned in that time. It is rebuilding though and a bit more comes back daily but somethings disappear when I try to relearn. Game of waiting but believing it all will come. For healing you may enjoy the "Tapping World Summit". It just started yesterday and there are videos to learn more for free. I seem to be already kind of using it but I have been for many years. It really helps to not be controlled by anger at life changes and experiences. Peace

Oh. I didn't realize u had been in an accident. Yes, the brain heals itself, but
      sometimes it takes many years.
Like myself... I had a head accident 40 years ago. The result? I cannot smell
or taste anything. It's not like when one has a cold. The nerves that govern
these regions in the brain are severed.
Thus, becoming acclimated to the loss of two of my six senses has sharpened
      the others.

I lost my right ear hearing and my other ear is sharper than ever but the direction of the sound alludes me and the loudest completely wins for recognition. No right side balance and my right hand/arm are an 8th back. I seem to be catching up with people who have been recovering for five to ten years from the same injury. No fear! No magic pain killers. Pain can be a great teacher if you are able to listen to your body.
