    • Police aren't trained to hunt their own. Civilians get in their way and police overreact. They need to calm down and think before they engage their trigger fingers.

    • ... What I don't get is this. If the LAPD was worried enough to about the named officers in the manifesto to post armed police guard in those neighborhood, why didn't they just put those officers and their families up on undisclosed hotels or the like until the shooter is caught?

Yeah, and it would give them all time to get their stories straight just in case there is ever an investigation into their actions that might have had a part in provoking the whole thing.

They could easily house everyone in a safe place.

Seriously though, why not put those police and their families in safe, undisclosed, locations, put cops outside of their homes, and that way if the guy does show up, you don't have to worry about being trigger happy to make sure he doesn't kill that officer and his family. You can catch the guy on his way outside of the house when he realizes that no one is home.

Yep. Good questions. My step mom was LA County Sheriff Deputy, frequently undercover vice and also worked the Manson Family tour de hell. Brother in law was San Bernadino County Sheriff Deputy, then Redlands PD then special investigator for Riverside County DA after he could not be safe in Redlands when he helped clean up 'the best force money could buy'. Old school to be sure, but damn, there ARE easy ways to protect targets and the fact that LAPD would rather not is very curious.

    • Disgusting. This situation will separate the professionals from the amateurs. Unfortunately, I think there are few professionals in any police force these days.

    • So they mistake 2 women for one big black man. Just what goes into the training of a cop anyway?
Really can not wait to here how the chest thumping patriotic right wingnut trolls on this site spin this one.
      It should be hilarious.

If you live in a liberal state that doesn't let you stand your ground, you just have to take it from the cop and die. Otherwise you will lose your life anyway, because you will go away for life for murder/assaulting a police, just for acting in self-defense. In these socialist places the state can do no wrong.

Then again, if you live in a non-liberal state that does have stand your ground laws, you have to worry about some gun carrying whacko getting nervous and shooting you when you're walking down the street and claim it was self defense. Who knows, the guy might even think that you are a neighborhood threat and stalk you down before confronting you, shooting you, then hiding behind those laws by claiming he acted in self defense.

But hey, it is a trade off either way, so you just need to decide which is your cup of tea, right?

More people die from Police every year than a 'gun carrying whacko.'

But as you said, it's your choice Die by getting shot by the cops or go to prison for life resisting a cops attempt on your life, or live in a state where you can stand your ground and defend yourself.

That's the beauty of the United States, there are 50 states you choose the level of tyranny you want to submit yourself to.

The problem with the mentality you are presenting when you write, "or live in a state where you can stand your ground and defend yourself," is that even in those states where you can stand your ground and defend yourself, doing so would mark you for life in that state. Yes, there are good cops, and there are bad cops, and generally speaking good cops outnumber the bad cops; however, there is still a fraternity like bond between most police officers, and if you kill a police officer, even in what is very obviously self defense, you can easily find yourself on the bad side of every cop in the state. And I'm not just referring to being harassed, the odds that a cop will act hostile towards you in the future and shoot first and ask questions later increase significantly.

I'm not saying that one situation is a win and the other is a loss, I'm saying that both are losing situations, and the best solution is also the one that will be the hardest to implement... creating change in the police forces to prevent this kind of colossal fuck up. That means getting rid of police who are so trigger happy that they create situations like this.

Wait a second... I'm confused. Is the crazy dude the big African American guy who the police are manhunting for, or is it the police officer who shot up a truck with two women like it was a Bin Laden target at the shooting range because he thought that they might be this big African American guy who is being manhunted?

One Mr. Dorner ? ( said crazy person ) , i believe , is at present THE most popular guy on Facebook .... and has a petition in his honor , calling for President Obama to look in to his allegations of corruption . There are other rumors . As i say , radicalization happens to MAKE you crazy . If even ONE organization had backed him up , given legal support in any way , this might have turned out different . No justice , no civilization . Oppression is no substitute for justice . PS , it would be a huge MISTAKE for the cops to kill the dude . HUGE .

    • This is police work at its absolute worst. All these cops involved in the shooting should be sent back to training. What could ever justify shooting into windows when you can't even tell if the occupants are men or women, white or black? Just plain unacceptable. LAPD better be ready to start settling lawsuits for this incompetency.
