“When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.”

- Sinclair Lewis, It Can’t Happen Here.

Just about anything good left in America (what little IS LEFT) is Socialist in nature, and now, the corporate capitalist mob that control's our government is destroying our postal service, on August 31st of this year, mail (but still packages) will no longer be delivered on Saturday, the bastard's will financially strangle the post office to death, just like they do everything else.

    • Just because it seems appropriate, here is a Henry A. Wallace quote (FDR's VP for most of WW II:). And yes, he was a socialist, and proud of it.

“The really dangerous American fascist... is the man who wants to do in the United States in an American way what Hitler did in Germany in a Prussian way. The American fascist would prefer not to use violence. His method is to poison the channels of public information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money or more power... They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest. Their final objective, toward which all their deceit is directed, is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjection".

~quoted in the New York Times, April 9, 1944”

    • Don't forget the biggest socialist program of all...The US Military.
Soldiers get: Free clothes, free housing, free travel, free education, money for college, Free gym instructors (boot camp), an income that comes from tax dollars, free weapons, etc, etc, etc.
See...The GOP loves socialism. Why else would they support the country's largest, and most successfully run socialist program.

    • "The social welfare programs of government have been for the most part positive, if partial, responses to the genuine social needs of the great majority of Americans. The dismantling of such programs by conservative and corporate elites in the absence of any alternatives will be disastrous. Abandoning schools, health care, and housing, for example, to the control of an unregulated free market magnifies the existing harsh realities of inequality and injustice."

I'm not a republican or democrat , I just want the best for the country. The story behind the duck tape is that when GW was president, the department of DHS recommended to people that if we had an emergency aka BIO or Nucular in the country. We should cover the house with duck tape and plastic tarp. The only question that I had about this recommendation was, how are we going to breath ? No air getting into the house ? Great idea don't you think ?
Right now we have our Vice-President with good intentions recommending people to get a shot gun, I don't think is the best advice.

      The End.

    • . The NSDAP took control Of Germany during the midst of the worst post war depression a losing country could ever suffer through and still remain a cohesive race. Things were so bad that the people were ripe for an orchestrated take over and actually welcomed it with open arms.
The Party brought bread lines, soup kitchens and, yes, jobs plus a modicum of stability and a revitalized national pride. They also had one hellova propaganda machine lying about everything under the sun. Tell a lie often enough and it becomes the truth. Due to the lies, the German people were actually not as well off as they were led to believe. More and more repressions went into place and pretty soon everyone was in uniform fighting for the Reich. in senseless wars. The people were actually duped into thinking the Party was out for them when all along the Party was giving all the gravy to the upper crust and throwing the people under the bus. The rich were actually in charge, not the Volks I see the same parallel but uncoordinated , fumbling and leaderless attempt by the GOP to mimic the NSDAP to a certain extent. Every other country that has a Socialistic form of government to one extent or another. has remarkably happy , productive people who have embraced their form of government and love it. They do pay high taxes but enjoy good perks...ask a Swede . The vilification of Socialism or Socialistic sounding programs instituted by a government that cares more for enhancing the well being of the of the people and ascribing a Fascist or Communist label to it is an ignorant form of right wing, Neocon propaganda formulated by those whose interests lie in destroying their own country ...to what purpose ? A slave labor front like Nazi Germany ? Gulags like the USSR ? Or entire cities working for the ruling class like China ?Just because a African-American is elected President twice ? And wants to actually help the people instead of screwing over them ? I believe the government should Nationalize The HealthCare industry, the Oil Companies and the largest of all industries, the Arms Industry plus the Banks and anyone else who has helped us down this GOP sponsored road to economic and societal disaster. You can call me a SocioFascioCommie RatBasterd. Who cares as long as the Republicans fail and become at one with the earth.

    • Um.... Often one in the same, the last widespread, accepted, fascist threat was the National Socialist Party, or NAZI Party for short....

Let's see notable socialist entities; facebook, GE, many corporations, most of the bailed out banks, hmmm the hedge fund managers & private equity too with their myriad loopholes and tax breaks.

Yeah yeah yeah, socialism is good, extremely good for the rich, but it's socialism for the rich, servitude, or essentially restructured slavery for the poor, and there is no want from the oligarchy to even pass socialism down and let it apply to all.

Honestly, one of the biggest "socialistic" things passed lately, "Obamacare" (that yeah he did kinda borrow from Romney's time as governor.), is a TAX on everyone who isn't the poorest of the poor... A $20,000 a year tax on a family of 4, that will be come after by the IRS, should you either fail to sign up, or didn't have a private insurance covering you. Worse, big corporations, specifically UPS right now is using Obamacare as a "reason" to drop the insurance that they carried and offered to their employees.

So even "Obamacare" is going to amount to a transfer of wealth from the poor, to corporations, but that's okay I'm sure they got plenty of chill pills for all....

      "Fascism;

      noun
      1.
( sometimes initial capital letter ) a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism."

Let's see, haven't we had one of our best outspoken true progressive journalists suing the POTUS over the NDAA?

Haven't we just had a young activist commit suicide because he was being persecuted for taking issue with tax-payer money funding studies that were basically considered private property of private universities (more "socialism" in action btw.)....?

Don't we have a president who has executive ordered himself, and subsequent presidents into a position of "legalized" assassinations of whomever they sit fit?

Haven't we unilaterally went to war, with a so called "dictator" that less than 2 years before was so cool there are photos of the War-Monger & Chief shaking hands with the "dictator" (Qaddafi)....?

      We're already living under FASCISM.

He claims he leans more to the "socialistic" side of things.... And paint to whichever corner you choose, but everyone from Chris Hedges to Cornell West, TRUE PROGRESSIVES, have called him out on his war-crimes and FASCISM, even if they haven't used the words......

So yeah wtfe with suggesting that fascism is more of a "right-wing" thing, historically speaking, it's NOT, but granted both ends of the spectrum, or false dichotomy, tend to have inklings towards fascism...

    • Uh-oh! Someone's having issues with their definitions! Looks like they need to go back to school and relearn the definition of 'socialism'. Let me help you:

      From Dictionary .com...

"a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole. "

Ah-ha! The means of "production and distribution". Let's look at that list again shall we?

      • Schools
      • Libraries
      • Highways
      • Fire departments
      • Police departments
      • Postal service

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Not a SINGLE ONE of those fits the definition of 'socialism'. These are all programs paid for by TAX DOLLARS. In not a single instance are resources be taken from the *productionists* and redistributed to the *consumptionists*. Those programs all benefit the productionists and consumptionists ALIKE!!

So no, none of those programs are socialist in nature. They are funded through tax dollars (no, that does not inherently mean it's socialist) for everybody's benefit.

Bottom line: Just another attack by the consumptionists on the productionsts.

For starters, you left the investor class out of your list of classes - assuming you mean "consumer" when you say "consumptionist." The investor class does not see itself benefitting from any of the things on the list. That's why both producers and consumer are being shot down the tube by the investor class - the investor class, along with producers and consumers who are suckups to the investor class due to fear or stupidity, or both.

In an awkward way, you've hit the nail on the head regarding "tax." This whole problem is traceable to the Reagan/Bush tax cuts. Without them, the deficit would not exist. We might even still have two major parties, not that that's a good idea.

      { From Dictionary .com ... "a theory or system of social organization ..." }

Bravo Culdee! Dictionary.com is my GO TO source for the understanding of economic theories as well !!! [Laughing heartily at this point!]

Now that we've settled on our economic Bible, let's see what they have to say about Reaganomics? Just for fun, from the unabridged entry:

"any economic plan that promotes low taxes, low social-services spending, and high military spending -- which then contributes to low interest rates, low inflation, and large budget deficits "

Wow! Did they just say there that Reaganomics promotes "large budget deficits". They did!

So that is where "large budget deficits" come from! I knew it. Now it's confirmed by no less a beacon of economic truth than Dictionary.com !!!

As the Bible says: "Those who live by the Dictionary (dot com), will perish by the Dictionary (dot com)." or words to that effect. [Matthew 26:52]

Any economic policy that "boosts" the economy at the expense of the deficit is not truely boosting the economy. The boost is being purchased with debt. Eventually that debt will need to be repaid, which will come at the expense of the economy. Thus, I don't support tax cuts that increase the deficit.

Folks here try to label me as pro-Reaganomics. This is falsehood. I wasn't even alive when Reagan was president. Though I admire him in many ways, I never supported his tax cuts that increased our deficit.

Thought I should point it out. Not to be pedantic, but because it's an important distinction that reflects the political situation of the time. Especially as Ludendorff had previously been a supporter of Hitler.

In fairness to you, it doesn't really matter. It may not even be a quote from either of them. This oft-cited letter (telegram?) from Ludendorff to Hindenburg doesn't seem to have actually turned up in any archives.

It is first mentioned in the memoirs of the former governor-general of Nazi-occupied Poland, Hans Frank, written on death row following his conviction at the Nuremberg trials. Frank's memoirs weren't published until the 1950s, so it's interesting that Ludendorff's widow did not mention any such letter or telegram or warning in her (potential) defence during her own denazification hearing in 1949.

Both Ludendorff and Frank were pretty fanatical Nazis themselves (even though Ludendorff had fallen out with Hitler), so it's possible that this alleged letter, if fictitious, had more to do with Frank's bitterness about his own downfall than any genuine "warning" Ludendorff or any other Nazi (Hindenburg was not a Nazi) might actually have given against Hitler.

Wrong those things are made by people. The corporation is just the name at the top of the workers checks. On top of that there are individuals who in general work less and much less laborusly than those who get monthly checks at a mesily rate for the actual manufacture of said product usualy because they where born in to said money and corporate management life, not unlike midevil times and the passing of aristocratic title. In Fact all they gave up in the enlightenment was their tirles and they "joined" (see dominated) the merchant class. So PBTTTT to your "woe poor rich folk" crap.

A lot of products require *huge* initial capital investment to buy the manufacting equipment and raw materials, even if the resulting product is very simple and cheap. Only corporations have the purchasing power to make the initial investment and mass purchase of raw materials---something a traditional old "mom & pap" could never do.
