I think when it comes to politicians things are not as they seem to the layperson. Republican politicians wear religion on their sleeves to get the religious vote. More importantly however, they purposely espouse the most divisive issues and make them into political wedge issues in order to divide the people. Dividing the people against themselves and uniting under the banner of the elite is the modus operandi of the politicians; that's how they operate, serve the elite and themselves at the expense of everyone else, and get away with it. Take nothing any of them say at face value. Politicians use religion as a tool of control, ignorance, and division. They are not sincere.

The same is true of most religions and their leaders.

Yep, the religion thing is just a GOTV program for the GOP. Same with the tea party. But the GOP elite and their very greedy patrons forgot to tell the people it was just theater. No, the peeps actually think the GOP elite are with them and they think they get a seat at the big table.
Ill mannered guests who won't use the servant's entrance and keep their place are causing all manner of problems for the GOP.
Pass the popcorn.

It was pretty much written this way back in '68 when the GOP made their Faustian deal with the Wallace voters, calling it the Southern Strategy. Now the Devil's come for his due.

James C. Glass is evidence that scientists can be pinheads.
" My father-in-law was a thousand-dollar-a-plate donor until the day he died." well whoopty doo! My father-in-law graduated from Oxford, see this is just as irrelevant.
I also "believe in self-reliance, hard work, independence, and the smallest government necessary to do what needs to be done." and have HAVE never nor will EVER vote Republican. Mr. Glass seems to think that that voting democrat negates personal integrity, one that the good ol' GOP of days of yore had---BULLSHIT.
Sir your party has always been elitist, prone to the whole range of intolerance that the human mind can conjure. In short it has always been and will always remain backwards, never progressive.
Glass writes about George W. Bush---"I despised the man for his arrogance, hawkish and anti-science attitudes, and his poor judgment in getting us involved with other people’s wars. I voted for him only because I regarded his democratic challenger as a traitor to his country." geez for a minute there I thought he was going to drag "Hanoi Jane" into the mix. I do see a traitor flesh out in his writings and it is HIM.
He admittedly voted for Bush after noting that the man was arrogant, hawkish, anti-science and showed his poor judgment in getting us involved with other people’s wars. Why? because Glass is no different than any of the raving right-wingers who infest this very site.
Sir, you can point to all the reasons not to vote for a Republican and be right but what you should also do is count yourself as part of the problem because you are just waiting for another Republican to vote for, evidently your head is still partially imbedded up your ass.

Rep. Paul C. Broun of Georgia has been quoted as saying that science theories are lies from the pit of hell, and the earth was created 9000 years ago.
It never ceases to amaze me how reactionary re_pigs tend to be. I would like to see people like Paul Broun name the dimension where the "pit of hell" resides, if in fact such a place exists. These are the people to whom string theory involves a ball of twine. One would assume that if you are on the Science Committee you might know at least enough of the sciences to prevent you from making a complete fool of your self.
