Family Research Council: We Should ‘Punish’ Premarital Sex, We Never Gave Young People The Right To Do It

'''Continuing what seems to be a news week full of doofuses making a fool of themselves over sexual politics, a Family Research Council leader took to the radio to say that we ought to punish premarital sex like we used to… because young people were never given the “right” to have sexual intercourse outside of marriage. While guesting on Washington Watch Monday afternoon, FRC senior fellow Pat Fagan argued that the 1972 Supreme Court court case Eisenstadt v. Baird, which overturned a Massachusetts law banning the distribution of contraceptives to unmarried people, is quite possibly “the single most destructive decision in the history of the Court.”
Fagan was accompanied by ever-so-thoughtful evangelist and FRC head Tony Perkins.
In Fagan’s mind, that Court decision effectively told all single people that they have “the right to engage in sexual intercourse.” Never mind the fact that, well, they kind of do have the right — you know, consenting adults and whatnot — because Fagan remembers when society used to have laws forbidding such sin.
“Society never gave young people that right,” he continued. “Functioning societies don’t do that, they stop it, they punish it, they corral people, they shame people, they do whatever. The institution for the expression of sexuality is marriage and all societies always shepherded young people there, what the Supreme Court said was forget that shepherding, you can’t block that, that’s not to be done.”
By giving an implicit seal of approval on premarital sex, Fagan said, the Court was “brushing aside millennia, thousands and thousands of years of wisdom, tradition, culture and setting in motion what we have.”
And thus setting forth the downfall of Western civilization, of course.

We USED to punish women who had sex. The young men? Not so much. Seems we are going back to that already.
Some of these jerks really just need to go pay for it where they can spank, shame and otherwise work out their personal issues with a pro. Leave the rest of us the frock alone

Are they affiliated with the corporate Prison industry? Just asking. I’m sure the Prison industry supports their views.

Well, that's his opinion. His views, and those of Islamic fundamentalists, are scarily in sync. Freedom is the right to choose, and God has given us that privilege. It is NOT my place to judge. Everyone must follow their beliefs.

Yeah right. And the next step is to force women to cover themselves from head to toe and to lock them inside their homes and not allow them to leave without being accompanied by a male. These idiots are living in the wrong country.

The Family Research Council (FRC) is an American conservative Christian group and lobbying organization formed in the United States in 1981 by James Dobson. It was incorporated in 1983.[2] In the late 1980s, the FRC officially became a division of Dobson's main organization, Focus on the Family, but after an administrative separation, the FRC became an independent entity in 1992. Tony Perkins is the current president.
The FRC promotes what it considers to be traditional family values, by advocating and lobbying for socially conservative policies. It opposes and lobbies against LGBT rights (such as same-sex marriage and LGBT adoption), abortion, divorce, embryonic stem-cell research, and pornography. The FRC is affiliated with a 501(c)(4) lobbying PAC known as FRC Action.[3] In 2010, the Southern Poverty Law Center classified the FRC as an anti-gay hate group, a designation which generated controversy.

Give me a break. Just who in the hell do they think they are? Do you really think young adults 200 or 100 years ago weren't having premarital sex? The court case was dealing with providing contraception, it had nothing to do with stopping them from having sex. IMHO, what is needed is better sex education to prevent unwanted pregnancies. By the way, teen pregnancy is highest in the bible belt because they are taught abstinence instead of safe sex.

A fine example of a supporter of "Ethical Birth Control" as detailed in Kurt Vonnegut's Welcome to the Monkey House. Don't make sex non-procreative, just take all the pleasure out of it.

"WE never gave them permission"? More Small Government Conservatism, where the self-appointed "Religious Authorities" can decide what you may and may not do.
I've always thought that Ringo gave the definitive answer to that.
