House Republicans on Friday unanimously voted down a bill that would have raised the minimum wage. Six Democrats joined them in defeating the effort. The vote came after a surprise move by Democrats, who tacked onto a jobs training program bill an amendment that would have brought the national $7.25 minimum wage to $10.10 by 2015. But Republicans managed to defeat the effort while approving the bill overall.
A few weeks back, House Minority Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) came out in support raising minimum wage, responding President Obama’s State of the Union call for a wage increase. Pelosi’s effort, and the effort proposed Friday, would actually bring the minimum wage up higher than Obama’s suggestion of $9.
If the minimum wage were brought up to $10.10 an hour, it would not be a revolutionary hike; rather, it would be indexed to inflation and consistent with historical borrowing power. Had the minimum wage been indexed to inflation in 1968, it would be $10.40.

I looked at some of the books. It is good that there is true diversity such as this, even though Left-wingers will scream against true diversity of thought, trying to shut it down because it goes against their dogma.
I found one of the books, and know it must be excellent because of the author whose sapient works I have read and can discuss: Russell Kirk whom many consider the father of today's Conservatism. I am gratified to know that this person will be studied by our youth. I would like to see Friedman and Hayek studied more, and the Texas textbooks now include them. This is a great achievement and give hope.

Bullshit again Mushmouth. SEIU is full of members who otherwise would be making minimum wage and the dues are nothing at all to even worry about. Caught lying again Mushmouth.

You missed the point: People want to teach children in their homes, and parents simply get together in neighborhoods and cooperate. The Left-wingers want to stop it, so they use "safety" as a pretext to make it hard to have this home-schooling.
And you endorse this anti-freedom in the name of "caring" about the children. What a crock.

"Unions are well known for their destructiveness and law-breaking. In Philadelphia, they have destroyed property, hurt people, slashed tires, and threatened others with guns and knives."
Only after the Union busting thugs hired by the factory bosses shot and killed them on the picket lines or burned their homes to the ground with their families inside. You're not victims you're the criminals.

Nope, Left-wingers ALWAYS conjure up ways to dismiss, discredit and deny facts that do not align with their dogma. Heck, I posted facts about how Che's own diary contained entries about how he personally blew out brains (his word, "brains") with his pistol to the head of a political dissenter.
Just like Noam Chumpsky - denials, prevarications, and dissimulation from the apologists and ideologues.

{Mishmouth they are making more than minimum wage because they are in a Union.}
Unions are geared to people with degrees or skills, not minimum wage people. Few people stay on the min wage; fewer than 1% stay on it for a year. Unions only want an increase in the min wage - not for themselves or their people - but to eliminate competition.

Not true because they are earning far more than the min wage. Look at UAW, for example. They earn over 50% than non-union people in the same jobs. They ain't worrying about any minimum wage.

No, it is silly to think that the GOVERNMENT has to go in and "certify" homes for parents who simply want to teach a few things to their kids and their neighbors. Do you have children? If your children and, say, another family's kids went to the house where the parent was an electronics person and said he will show your kids and the other neighbor's kids some stuff on computers or whatever, do you REALLY think you would demand that his home be checked for egress, fire safety, ventilation, whatever?
Are you f...ing kidding me?
It is a blatant attempt to shut down home schooling. It is vapid to claim otherwise. Kids are just in the homes of otherwise dedicated, honorable, decent, parents who are making efforts, sacrificing time, and working hard to teach children.

No, people who work full-time for the min wage change. As of only a couple of years ago, almost nobody stays at the minimum wage level for more than one year.
This is what left-wingers do. For example, with the 1% dreck: There will always be a 1%; there has to be statistically. But Left-wingers refuse to see how much this changes from year to year. Left-wingers are deceitful and present them as some kind of permanent class. In the past 3 decades, for example, less than One Percent of the "1%ers" remained in that class. Most were out of it in a couple of years!
But the Liberals are deceivers and present it as though these people are a permanent ruling class. They should be ashamed of their perfidy and treachery.
