Now that the strike is on, major studios are planning to suspend long-term deals with production companies, jeopardizing the jobs of hundreds of employees.

"Assistants, development executives and production managers will soon be out of work, joining their better-paid bosses who opted to sacrifice paychecks as members of the Writers Guild of America. At some studios, the first wave of letters are going out today, hitting writer-producers whose companies don't currently have shows in production."

This is not a good thing. No money vs. more money. I dunno.

    • Their demands are totally legit. I mean, I love democratic media and taking the power out of the hands of a few and giving it to the masses, but at the same time, I love a great scripted show and often time need a break from the relentless reality shows. I think the way for the big studios to deal with this is to give internet royalty to the writers, they completely deserve it. Plus, I really am not excited to see which B and C list celebs jump on their opportunity to have a dating reality tv show..

    • Hopefully the strike is effective. Reality television may be the winning force in over all battle. I fear the writer strike may only push networks toward reality as no scripts are being produced at the moment.

    • sounds like the studios are trying to pressure the writers back into work by suspending or firing lower level people. I don't know all the details of the situation, but the writers' demands appear reasonable.

I think we can all live without new tv for a little bit, yes?
