Brit flicks shine at Attenborough FIlm Awards

Amongst other UK successes, the screen adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel has scooped four prizes including being voted film of the year by a selection of British regional arts, media and entertainment journalists.
Its director Joe Wright was voted film maker of the year, while James McAvoy, named BAFTA's rising star in 2006, was named as actor of the year for his lead role in the movie.
The film's screenwriter Christopher Hampton, winner of the 1988 Oscar for scripting "Dangerous Liaisons", took the screenwriter of the year award.
Atonement's producer Paul Webster talked about the awards saying that as the "film was shot entirely in England with a completely British cast and crew: it was "especially thrilling that our film has been honoured by the Richard Attenborough Film award.
Cate Blanchett's portrayl of Elizabeth in "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" saw her take the actress of the year award, with rising star of the year going to Sam Riley for his performance as legendary Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis, in the film "Control."
