NBC wants to stop it.
Should Americans have a choice on when and how they want to watch the Olympics?

It is simply easier to check on my PC to get updates and video, that is my prefered method to receive Olympic updates so get over it NBC.

All the reporters do is talk sh*t.. they are so annoying! They say stupid things about the teams that nobody gives a damn about and have nothing to do with the Olympics. NBC is full of sh*t and sh*tty reporters.

NBC keeps losing their audio feed of the announcers...although I guess thats not all bad hehe.
And im with sgwhites...i wish they would show some stuff from other countries as well as the US. Yes I understand theres a lot to cover so they cant show everyone, but Id like to at least see the other top contenders.
Im rootin for Lithuania...I really want to see them win more than 3 medals this time! hehe

Perhaps if they if they made it clear when events would be shown, and actually broadcast more than highlights of US athletes (and a few from select other countries) people would watch more. If I want to watch gymnastics, I want to see gymnastics, not a couple of routines from US athletes, then a token few from other countries before suddenly switching to beach volleyball.

I hate the NBC announcers and sick of hearing them talk about other irrelevant issues about the athletes...and showing more footage on US athletes than needed. So what if people want to see the Olympics through the internet...sounds like another corporate control issue to me.

Honestly, I'm sick of watching the Olympics on NBC. The announcers are annoying, and we miss half the action because they decide to broadcast some ridiculous report or another about a back story. I want to watch the Olympics. Not reporters. Not news segments.

If NBC really want to compete properly they should put their own footage online as well, rather than be a spoilsport and try and stop others who got there first.

My parents watched the Olympics when they were the gem of ABC. They quit watching them when NBC took over them. There is too much coverage on NBC regarding the "trivial" matters of athletes. Who really cares if Shannon Johnson is from West Des Moines, Iowa? The majority of Americans hate Iowa, and those I know who live in Iowa want out, despite every state politicians' mission to "keep young people there." Reality check: The 80-35 festival that was held there back in July wasn't all that great compared to the fantastic Lalapalooza last weekend. It will only be great if they get Radiohead to come to Iowa, and Radiohead never will. Jim McKay is gone and Bob Costas will never, ever replace him. Forgive my ranting, but NBC needs to deal with a "free and open internet." It is 2008, not 1976.

Is it not enough that NBC (successfully) lobbied the IOC for swimming finals to be held in the mornings??? Get a grip!!

We should be able to watch it live. If NBC is too dumb to show all the events live then they should expect us to get a live feed by other means.

I think that they should finish the events in Beijing then, take them on tour throughout the world to every major city and reenact them at all the biggest arenas so we can each see them "live"...sort of.
Granted, it would be a tad expensive, but... - 3 years ago

Ok... well.. I understand with this but isn't it the same as Tivo? You wanted to watch Grey's Anatomy but you went out instead but you Tivo'd it and watched it later and... you were still happy... right? BUUUUT I Do understand... maybe they should show "Big events" more than once... once live and once again in prime time...?

Another greedy corporation who wants it all. There has got to be a law against sheer greed and abuse.

Stop being a d*ck nbc and use quicktime, so everyone can watch the olympics!!
(Only windows users and mac users who have windows installed can watch the olympics streaming because nbc's player requires Silverlight, a windows based program) - 3 years ago

MyDigitalSin:
I don't get it. Everything I've read has stated Silverlight will work with OSX. Since it's Microsoft's attempt to create a universal video player (a la Flash and Quicktime), the notion they would ignore Apple hardly seems reasonable.
I've found statements that on OSX, it is compatible with both Firefox and Safari, if your crazy enough to use the latter.

just another case of corporate control.
So now if it doesn't go their way they want the law to stop us from "accessing information: in the intrests of corporate greed and profits. IE advertising dollars
If its anything like the oil companies they will get their way
i see a lot of parallels to other issues here

I completely agree. That's why I'm watching parts of the Olympics online... the announcers are getting on my nerves.
I don't see how NBC can be allowed to stand in fount of the Olympics and call it "theirs". It should be open to everyone... it is one of the few times that the entire world (basically) sets aside their differences and comes together.
NBC better not be censoring portions of the Olympics... I'll be ticked then.
