Battle in Seattle

Filmmakers and stars of the film Battle in Seattle convened in Los Angeles for an evening of questions and answers on September 22. Another Cinema Circle hosted by Genart, Stuart Townsend and Charlize Theron were on-hand to talk about the making of this ambitious debut feature, which focuses on the infamous WTO convention that took place in Seattle almost ten years ago. Director Townsend has much to say about freedom of speech and the spirit of protest... as do other cast members who showed up for this rockin' premiere event.

    • In '99, I lived on the Olympic Peninsula, about 80 miles from Seattle. My son was 6, my daughter 12. My friends were taking their kids to Seattle to join the protest. I watched the police brutalizing innocent people from my TV and worried about my friends.

      My son and I went to see the film, we both really loved it. It was enough Hollywood to be fun and exciting, and enough documentary to leave you feeling that you had learned something, and even had a window into the events that created some real heros of the people.

      Afterward, we joined about 40 people who had been activists at the event, they seemed very pleased with the film and had only minor criticisms to share.

      We would both highly recommend it.

    • clearly the subject matter of this piece helps out but you did an amazing job once again capturing the key moments over the course of the evening's events. most importantly the sound bites from the filmmakers and the audience. kudos - this video should be seen by many so they go see the actual movie!!!
