Nadya Suleman: Two Octuplet Babies Come Home

Nadya Suleman arrived at her new home last night with two of the octuplets, Noah Suleman and Isaiah Suleman. The scene was utter chaos with paparazzi and other media sources crowding the yard, driveway and street running in front of the home.

    • It saddens me that this is actually happening. With all the understanding that exists today how can we breed like rats and still claim to be the most intelligent species?

      Assume that each person requires 10 square meters in which to live and that space has to allow for every facet of life necessary for survival; dwelling, food, water, resources etc. This is a total estimation, I would guess our requirements although distributed exceed 10 square meters per person.

      We know earths radius is aprox. 6371m (from wikipedia) and from this we can work out surface area. If we then consider that about 30% is habitable (from wikiP) then the habitable surface area is about 153,019,341.6 meters squared.
      If 100m2 supports 10 people then the max sustainable population size is around 1,530,193!!

      If we are intelligent then we have chosen to live in far less space and have chosen to be stretched for resources.
      As far back as the Egyptians, Sumerians and Mayans there has been an understanding of ecology and resource limitations, yet we with our "superior intellect" keep choosing to push our resources until society collapses time and time again. Sumer, Maya, Rome, Easter Island, our history repeats as reliably as algal bloom in a pond, so are we really all that intelligent?
      The writing is on the wall. Is each one of us going to intelligently change our behavior or are we going to distract ourselves by having another child or 8?
