Twilight Eclipse – soft porn with some really annoying monologues!
Twilight Eclipse: teen angst; topless werewolves; and soft vampire porn – all with a 12A rating. Score!
Not being a massive Twilight’er, I entered the cinema with a little apprehension. Was this film really worth all the hype?
Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised. And even found myself become quite attached to ‘certain’ characters!
Unlike the two films before, ‘Eclipse’ was fast-paced and far more appealing to a mature audience. Saying that, the cinema was still crawling with teeny boppers, whooping when Bella (Kristen Stewart) felt an overwhelming desire to strip her vampire lover (who could blame her), Edward (Robert Pattinson). I – being the mature, cultured and worldly viewer – took it all in my stride.
The plot, however, is the same old. Boring teenage girl (with equally beige fashion and hair choices *1) meets and falls in love with hot *2 vampire; all whilst she fights her feelings for an equally hot werewolf *3. The vampire and werewolf clans overcome their differences to protect said boring girl against a really narky (but minx) red-head vamp and her ‘army’ (try group – there are like 12 of them) of vampires.
At the end of the day, Twilight is merely a glossier and more fanciful version of Dawson’s Creek. It reeks the same angst and turmoil of the teen characters; all of whom have the inability of an internal thought process – blurting out the first thing they think regarding their feelings, desire, life philosophies, blah, blah, blah…
But, if you are a Twilight fan, an admirer of Robert Pattinson, or like to ogle at the perfectly toned body of the barely legal Taylor Lautner; then you will not be disappointed.
The film was well worth the £5.90 I paid (yes, I went off-peak and used a student card) and definitely gave me the 2 hours of escapism that I was craving.
So, if you are able to block out the fact that Kristen Stewart is the protagonist and you enjoy hot young men (or want to have a body to aspire to); mixed with a bit of vampy/werewolfy action, go see!
*1 Seriously, the girl wore a denim shirt to her graduation party.
*2 Physically very cold (as a vampire), but his skin sparkles in the sun!
*3 … an equally hot werewolf, who spends most of the film with his top off – even in the snow!
