Amazon.com Review
This omnibus edition collects Spider Robinson's first three books about the Long Island bar that attracts the weirdest clientele and the tallest tales in the known universe. Callahan's Crosstime Saloon, Time Travelers Strictly Cash, and Callahan's Secret are playful, pun-filled delights from the pen of a truly inimitable writer, winner of the Skylark and John W. Campbell awards.

    • As much as I LOVE Spider's books, the crux of his "Callahan's" stories do not lend themselves well to script conversion and requesite shortening for half-hour tv. They would do much better as a 2 or 3 movie deal like Doug Adams' book series SHOULD have been.

Karma (IMHO) is more of a personal choice morality issue...as portrayed so far in season one. Besides, do we really want to muddle the character base with a live band as opposed to the totally variable format the jukebox offers? Or hide the bar top with a RubeGoldberg contraption spitting out "God's Blessings"?

I feel it would be much more interesting to entice him out of hiding to author an ep from his own wonderfully twisted attitude (Brust too!), based on the point of karma and it's future neccessity...an occasional 'pro' guest shot could be just as entertaining as community palaver...for that matter, how about one season of various print writers doing their own version of an ambiguous outline, with multiple variants for the community to vote on?

I really haven't enjoyed or been as enthused about a show since SciFi channel came up with "Exposure" (before Tim Burton took it over and trashed it!). I hope this will continue for a few more years!

    • Callahan's! Love that Place.

The origin was given in the last book, I believe. So it would be pretty hard to place The Place in The Conglomerate, I would think.

We'll want to be careful about taking stories whole cloth.

But, Spider Robinson willing, we could do one doozy of a crossover!

(RAH = Robert A. Heinlein. I've probably read some Brust, but frankly don't recall.)

    • I enjoyed "Cowboy Feng's Bar and Gril" by Steven Brust.

Hell, I pretty much like everything from Brust. Added to "SF&F and Comics",
      "Sordid ; Guilty Pleasures too . . ."
      and
      "HackMonsteRPG Dth&Destruction!"

    • Sorry, SR is just another Libertarian Loon like his hero RAH

I outgrew his kind of selfish sociopathy when I was about 15-16.
