3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy, a remake of the original 1991 series bearing the same name, is the first high-grossing soft-core porno to be shown in 3D. Not IMAX 3D, mind. IMAX declined to take part in the project due to of its racy content. Apparently 3D tits aren’t their thing.
The story is based on a book, "The Carnal Prayer Mat", and tells the tale of Wei Yangsheng, a Ming Dynasty scholar with a massive craving for clunge, but a little amateur in the bedroom department. Needless to say, 3D Sex and Zen smashed the Hong Kong box office when it was released in April 2011, grossing HK$2.78 million in the first weekend! Fans of phlange travelled from all over China to whip on their 3D glasses, as the flick was banned elsewhere.
